Avatar f tn However one symptom (if that's the the correct thing to call it) is lingering and that is anxiety and depression. I get bouts of severe anxiety every now and then, as frequently as every few weeks. I don't know if this is being caused by me being a celiac or something else. Does anyone else experience depression? To be more specific it's more like this extreme feeling of overwhelm and I just feel like giving up and just waiting for death!
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with severe depression. I feel very angry at everything and everyone but I can't seem to let it out. I feel like if I could just cry I might be okay. I can't do that either. Is this a normal part of depression? Shouldn't I feel sad and blue not angry. Could this be my medications? Zoloft, Flexeril, and just recently put on Vicodin for a disc problem. I see my psychologist this week. It also seems when I go 2 full weeks without therapy my symptoms get worse.

Therapy really can be so helpful in teaching someone how to cope. Are you on a sub program, or doing this on your own? One possibility is you're tapering too fast. Avatar n tn So, I'm now wondering if perhaps my symptoms are due to depression or are perhaps exacerbated because of depression. My question is can depression be a purely physical disease? In other words, can one have depression without feeling 'sad' emotionally? I've always been a happy, optimistic person. I have no other major stressors in my life, aside from my present illness. I'm a 30 y/o male with no history of any serious illness. I'm in good shape and have a good social life.

Avatar m tn Hello, The symptoms are suggestive of depression. Depression is a mental disorder characterized by a pervasive low mood, loss of interest in usual activities and diminished ability to experience pleasure. The three most commonly indicated treatments for depression are psychotherapy, medication (antidepressants), and electroconvulsive therapy. Talk to your family members and consult a psychiatrist because it is the beginning and psychotherapy may suffice.

Avatar f tn Often times this depression also has very severe anxiety associated with it which makes your body tremble all the time. Your hands will shake. You will often feel dizzy and disattached from the world around you. Your level of daily fuctioning will drop to almost zero. Even the simple act of taking a shower will seem like too large a task to deal with. So at least that is my experience with depression. It really is much like living hell on earth.
Avatar n tn While these things will not help if you have severe depression, they may help alot if it's mild to moderate. You and your doc. could always opt for an anti-depressant as well. As persnick says, exercise also helps...... Sorry you're so blue......
Avatar m tn Not dealing with your diabetes can very well be making your depression worse. With proper treatment you should see improvement with your depression and your general health as well. As far as the other symptoms 'pins and needles, etc.' these could very well be the early signs of neuropathy which is very common in uncontrolled diabetes. I have severe polyneuropathy and believe me when I say that things will not get better from here. Pain 24/7 will make depression seem like a mere cold.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone, this is a very hard question for me to ask anyone but I am desperate! Does anyone know if ECT or magnetic treatment really helps a person with severe depression? I have taken every type of anti depressant out there and either they do not help my depression or I cannot tolerate the side effects. Right now I am not taking anything except for something for my anxiety and I need something that will help my depression. I am desperate to find something that will help my depression.
Avatar n tn Please Google depression and depression symptoms so you can read the full facts. Can you get rid of it without meds? Essentially all cured depressions are cured by other than meds. Meds do not cure depression, they relieve the symptoms when we feel bad enough to need meds. Relieving those symptoms supposedly allos us to think more clearly, identify the problems causing depression and fix those problems which in turn fixes the depression. That's the theory.
Avatar n tn As withdrawals can feel same as depression, we have to give it time after we stop. Withdrawal symptoms will come on pretty quickly after we stop, depression rather slower. We will know ourselves what is happening, as you and I did. Your suggestion to wonder502 is a good one.
Avatar m tn Sometimes in deep depression it is not a question of mind over matter or even will. I know. I have finally come out of a very severe, deep depression. Lying in bed was what I did for the longest time but it was not my choice. My daughter would take me to the mall and I did not have the energy to walk. I walked so slowly that an elderly woman came up to me and said "I am walking faster than you." That stung. I did not have the physical energy to lift my legs to walk.

I'm not sure if those test we're accurate so I came on this site to ask people who do have depression if this is depression. I have low self-esteem. I'm always downing myself. I don't consider myself to be beautiful, gorgeous or anything--that's why when people call me stuff like that I let it go in one ear and out the other.

Avatar f tn This is probably mild depression (but just because it's mild, doesn't mean it's to be ignored or that it doesn't matter - mild depression can become severe depression). It is a completely understandable response to your situation. I would recommend seeing a counsellor or psychologist or some kind of therapist, who knows cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT).
Avatar f tn Basically, he said that if you are suffering from a mental illness - like depression, anxiety, panic attacks, et al - that the symptoms will manifest in your body. He is a scientist and so believes that there is a reason for everything. There is a reason you are suffering so much grief and cannot let it go. Whether you are depressed and sleeping all the time, or having high blood pressure, or feeling nauseated, or suffering aches & pains, there is a reason.
Avatar f tn I talk to any of my doctors who has the bedside manners conducive to discussing the intimate subject of depression. I would think that every cancer patient has to deal with depression at some time or another. It hit me during chemotherapy. You should bring it up with both your doctors and let them decide who will treat you for it. You may have to get a third doctor. Nothing is easy now days.
