Avatar f tn I also, several years ago, had maintenance ECT for 18 months and after that I had 9 months with zero symptoms. The only real side effect is memory loss. Some people have little while other have more. I am very lucky and have minimal memory loss and can usually recall events/things when reminded. When you start ECT you usually have it 3 times a week for 2 to 3 weeks. Most people stop ECT then.

20184324 tn?1499256445 Quite recently my memory has got really bad, coinciding with my depression getting worse. I don't forget important things or events, but it's more like I can't remember the words I want to use when I'm speaking or writing, ways to express myself properly just seem to evade me. Is this something that other depression-sufferers have?
Avatar m tn When a household family member died about four ago I suddenly lost all of my short-term memory. Within a few days I also sunk into a bad depression with lots of crying. After various doctor visits, therapy, antidepressants and antianxiety meds, work-up at Stanford, etc., I am still having the same level of memory loss, although the depression has finally begun to weaken some. They call the memory loss Pseudodementia (believe me, there's nothing pseudo about it).
Avatar f tn That is one of many symptoms, but alone is not an indicator or disagnosis of major depression.
Avatar n tn Ok, So I was diagnosed in December 2012, after suffering symptoms of blurred vision, short term memory problems, and fatigue. I've had two mri's, the initial mri and one also to check for flow which wasn't too great. Then in January, my husband and I found that we were expecting our 3rd child which meant surgery had to wait, but also since I was able to manage my symptoms with a daily nap and had plenty of energy that surgery was up to me.

Avatar m tn It like many other anti depressents have side effects to include a chance of memory loss but you have to weigh the therapeutic benefits of the medicine against the symptoms of your depression. Also depression itself can cause memory loss and I know for a fact and personal experience that it lowers your concentration which, to me, is one of the worst parts about being depressed.
Avatar f tn My question is do others experience this extreme form of memory and concentration loss? Can depression really cause such poor memory? It feels like my brain is turning to mush. I am scared, suffering and so very tired of all of this. Any advice?
