Common Questions and Answers about Depression symptoms kids

Avatar n tn I have been reading the archives about depression and while some of the symptoms of depression are like mine, I also have just the opposite. I have withdrawn from my family and friends and society and I have also lost interest in activities which used to give me pleasure. I don't like loud noise and I am quick to anger. But, where as most people lose their appetites and have problems sleeping, mine are just the opposite. I sleep all day until the kids gets home and then I am in bed by 9:00 p.m.
328630 tn?1213623950 I cant seem to feel sure about this pregnacy and the though of having a miscarrige again is getting stonger each day,is this something I shoud talk to my doc about or is it just a normal fear due to the previous two m/c I had and they wher missed m/c which makes it worse because there where not symptoms, They where also 10years apart with a total of six healthy births before and after them (Ihave 6 kids) so I think no one takes me seriously as they see me with so many kids but to me 1 or 100 ea
Avatar n tn Can this be depression ? does anybody experience anything like these before? Can my headaches come from the comp. monitor ? I have feeling of sadness and fair. Now , when im back on computer somehow i feel normal, but otherwise it's really wierd. please i need help..
Avatar n tn We have had our relationship problems and trials in raising kids, but I truly believe that some people's brains just don't make the right chemicals which causes depression. At times though, situations do make the depression worse. The worst part is not always knowing what really causes and triggers it. I wish I din't have to rely on meds, but I guess I came to that realization with this recent trial and error of trying to do it without.
Avatar m tn I only took these pills at night ONLY, usually when the kids and wife went to sleep - around 11pm. So this flatness is mixed with depression and cravings and it's awful. It begins when I get home from work and lasts (on and off ) until around midnight. I was wondering if this will ever go away. And if so when? I really want the cravings and boredom to go away. I used to love watching movies and now I cannot get myself to sit and watch anything.
Avatar f tn the thing about a utopia is that people would still find something to complain about and we really cant appreciate the good without the bad. I wonder if we can teach depression by being depressed around our kids, or is it really genetic for those who have a family history of it.

2190999 tn?1504992491 I have read that one difference between general depression and bipolar depression is a persons energy level. It's a matter of feeling unable to perform even the simplest daily tasks because of overwhelming fatigue, instead of the general depressive sadness, hopelessness, ambivalence, etc. Does that make sense to anyone? Another difference is the depth of depression. The suicide rate for bipolar disorder is considerably higher than general depression rates.
676912 tn?1332816151 What are the symptoms of bipolar disorder? I'm just curious because it runs on both sides of my family, and my dad is bipolar, and occasionally I think maybe I should be talking to a dr because of how I am sometimes, but I don't want to walk into the drs office and make them think I'm some crazy person.
Avatar n tn he sleeps and during the sleep he keeps grounding his teeth..are these the symptoms of sleeplessness or is he too tired that he cannot sleep immediately or is he too playful that he cannot sleep thinking of the the way my son is 8 years old. Please suggest me what to do in order to avoid both..
Avatar n tn Bipolar is not something to be ashamed of but it is something we owe it to our kids to take seriously. I only regret I didn't know sooner kids can have it too! Thanks for letting me rant! I by NO means want to offend anyone please take my words in the spirit of love I intend! God Bless every parent, we need it!!! Peace out!
Avatar f tn Hello, People of any age can and do get Fibromyalgia, although it is not commonly diagnosed in teens or children. One of the reasons for this, I believe, is that doctors don't want to label kids with a dis order when they appear normal on the outside.I believe I've had it my whole life. The same symptoms I had as a kid I have now... and a few more. Many of my symptoms have gotten worse but were present as a kid.
Avatar n tn I'm afraid that even though he doesn't display classical symptoms of depression, his low self esteem and threats to harm himself may cause him to do something impulsive and rash. Thank you. Your suggestions are appreciated.
7677085 tn?1395377675 I've always had problems with depression, since as far back as I can remember. As much as rest and relaxing is important, my doctor tells me to keep busy. Even if I'm just writing or I doodle. Lol. I know its much harder with a child around. But maybe try and do stuff that would involve them. There's always the therapy option, I used to be to proud for it but its nice to be able to talk to someone that honestly doesn't care or retain it. I go there to complain. Haha, it gets it all out.
Avatar n tn I have suffered all my life with anxiety and depression. Different times over the years I have tried medications. None of them worked for any length of time or didn't work at all. One I took for two years. I saw numerous family docs and they all said pretty much the same thing, "when your kids are older and you can relax all will be ok and you will feel better.
190673 tn?1259206866 I have been depression free for nearly a decade. Besides leading a productive life and taking medications, my wife kept me always happy because she understood me and we were simply happy. I do however have general anxiety disorder and other symptoms caused by it. But recently my wife left me. She now wants divorce and we have to go to court for child custody. Her leaving has shocked me. The depression is crushing me like never before.
599170 tn?1300977493 Yes dogs can be depressed. Dogs can even be prescribed medication for depression (though I'm not necessarily suggesting you do that) Dogs are deep thinkers in their own way, and intelligent dogs are complex, not exactly the same as humans, but complex in their own way. Because he seems to have formed a special bond with you, maybe he misses you when you are away? I'm sure you give him lots of love and attention, but at the same time you do have to get on with your own life and your studies.
Avatar f tn How many of you ladies have/had postpartum depression and did you take medication for it or try and "ride-it-out"? What were your symptoms and how long did they last? Ive definitely been having bouts of depression and feelings of being overwhelmed - yesterday I was in Walmart and called hubby to ask about an item and he asked me to get something else and I suddenly felt overwhelmed and like I was going to cry! LOL.
1065486 tn?1255240369 Hi! I suffered from depression for years growing up, mainly because I didn't know I had it. I thought it was my own fault, that I was just a very lazy person... I didn't really know WHY I was always so fatigued, couldn't get out of bed, ect. Thankfully, my mom later realized the symptoms, and after years of resistance (I didn't think I could be depressed!) I finally began with the treatment & antidepressants. They absolutely changed my life.

Avatar m tn Some of the psyc's I have read question treating the depression without also treating the ADHD (since it could be causing the depression). Tend to agree with you on the Zoloft. And if you are bipolar, its really nasty -
Avatar f tn I really just want to be treated for my symptoms and to be believed (which I think, at this point, I am). I've been at this limbo thing for four years now. My oldest daughter was a freshman in HS when this all began. She just graduated last week. Our son just finished his Freshman year in college, and our youngest DD finished her freshman year in HS. They are growing up before my eyes, and will soon be living on their own.
Avatar m tn Starting late elementary school and middle school, I've lived in a state of depression. In middle-school I got a psychiatrist (an adult psychiatrist). He was very good and after a couple of meetings he prescribed me with medication for what he called a chemical imbalance in my brain that caused depression. The meds worked and I definitely wasn't as sad most of the time. So for seven years I've taken meds. More recently I've started to feel, emotionless and even angry (on the inside).
786881 tn?1236560228 I'm noticing more pain in my knees again, and this is the first time that I can say that I might being experiencing depression as well, though it's a very different type of depression than I was expecting. I am due to go back to my new Dr and do labs with her and a pap exam in a month and a half. I should probably go ahead and go back earlier for the blood work since from the sound of it, this really is the depression people speak about being associated with Hashimoto's.
Avatar f tn Hi hun im going through something similar with the lack of help from hubby as he works and also home bound and constant worrying. I got twins they are 4weeks now. However in not letting it get the better of me. I did get it really bad with my son 4yrs ago after his birth and i can tell you the depression didnt last long as i kept myself busy. 1130576 tn?1260154370 Complicating the picture, however, is the fact that a large number of children and adolescents suffering from depression have other associated psychiatric illnesses such as anxiety, disruptive behaviour and drug abuse. The symptoms of depression among this group remain largely the same as in an adult group; however, most of the manifestations due to the illness pertain to adjustment with peers and friends, problems in school, and indifferent or deteriorating scholastic performance.
Avatar n tn Hi sweety, it's me, mary. The depression is normal, I'm sorry to say, and may last a bit.. others here know more than I, but I do know it lasts a little while.. What no one here is going to be able to tell you for sure tho, is what is "normal" w/d depression, and what could be something else. Since you're on day 4, personally I wouldn't over-analyze it...
