Avatar f tn But nevertheless you don't want to go on them unless you have to - they take weeks to kick in, there are some side effects, there are withdrawal symptoms when going off them, adjusting symptoms when going on them - not terrible things, but things you don't want to deal with unless you have to. Also, try talking to your closer friends about it.
Avatar m tn Anyway, he didn't have that many problems after that except some occasional unexplained depression and occasional erectile dysfunction. Then In 1991 he had a lot of tingling in his hand and blurred vision in one eye. That is when he was diagnosed. He has done pretty well since. He now walks with a pretty obvious limp that has gotten worse esp. in the last 4 years. He deals with fatigue issues and very tight muscles in the back of his legs at times.
Avatar m tn I am a gay male and I find in depression I need more "attention" I find untouchable straight males more attractive. Then get depressed they are untouchable. God forbid one responded the way it plays out in my mind. But yeah I have to agree sexuality is a blurry line. It is the risk that is the turn on not the preference. When I am running normal I find straight men rude and annoying (no offense but I do). Don't get my warped mind started on the ladies.
Avatar n tn According to blood tests, his thyroid levels are now where they should be, but he is still experiencing symptoms of hypothyroid. Most of the symptoms he is still suffering with seem to be mental in nature - depression, irritability, and 'brain fog'. He is in the I.T. field (mainly database stuff) and these symptoms have severely hampered his ability to work. He can't seem to focus or problem-solve. This has been a nightmare for both of us. Is this normal?
1302779 tn?1287408629 Hi, Yes, it is most common among women due to hormonal disturbances. Generally, one sided throbbing (or sharp) headache (or discomfort) & orbital pain (eye pain) with numbness symptoms could be suggestive of migraine. Factors that may induce your migraine attack may be excessive pills, stress or depression, bright lights, loud noise and traveling. The mainstay of the migraine treatment is always to identify the triggering factors and to avoid them.
Avatar n tn I also have many symptoms that would seem to indicate MEN 1 syndrome including high cortisol and high normal gastrin levels with pain in my pancreas every day. My testosterone was just checked and it was 274. But, I don't have PCOS. I have symptoms of a pituitary tumor - including intense intracranial pressure and hearing loss in one ear (left). But, only one MRI back 2001 showed a possible microadenoma, but they weren't sure, so it was dismissed.
Avatar n tn Well, I'm in the middle of testing now but what I can tell you is that you are supposed to sleep less as you age. This is something you cannot ignore so please look into it even if it has nothing to do with the thyroid. One of the symptoms of hypothyroid that I know of is that your digestion slows down, this means you get more constipated and more time passes between bowel movements (which can lead to all sorts of problems by itself).
Avatar m tn While these bumps are only visible if I really look for them, they are demarcated and easy for me to locate if I'm close to the mirror (unsure if this is the early stage of wart formation). I also noticed a depression in that part of my face as well. Now its been about 9 days after my encounter and the redness on my face has nearly gone away but the bumps and depression remain.
Avatar n tn SEVERLY HYPOTHYRIOD. THEY SAY THIS IS VERY RARE IN MEN. I'M SCHEDULED TO SEE A SURGEON NEXT WEEK. MY ENDO SAYS I NEED TO CONSIDER SURGERY. ON ULTRASOUND, THE NODULES KEEP GETTING BIGGER EVEN THOUGH I TAKE .150MCG OF SYNTHRIOD. THE BIGGEST BEING ONLY 7MM BUT IT WAS 3.9MM SIX MONTHS AGO. SHOULD THEY BEING GROWING THAT FAST? I'VE READ THAT NODULES IN MEN ARE MORE LIKELY TO BE CANCER. THE BIOSPY WAS INCONCLUSIVE-SUSPICIOUS. ON THE UPTAKE SCAN IT SHOWED TYHRIOD FUNCTION @ 1.1% & COLD.
Avatar f tn YOU are not helping matters! Surprisingly hard to believe but in some men it is etched into their DNA somewhere that THEY take care of US. Now some go to the extreme insisting we dont work. However others dont mind that we work but they HATE having any part of their attempt to provide for us tampered by whatever reason be it a medical condition, whatever. My husband for example is having unexplainable seizures so he cant drive. He has to depend on me to get to work and pick him up.
Avatar n tn he has to know he doesnt have to suffer with depression but it is hard for many men to admit they need help. It is often seen as a sign of weakness when in fact the head isnt getting the right connections to the brain with dopamine and seritonin. see if he will look at these posts here and maybe we can help him to get help.keep telling him about the options he has and let him know because you love him that you are concerned. I will keep you and him in my prayers.
Avatar n tn the chief symptom of testosterone dysfunction is DEPRESSION! I know this because i have to have artifical T, i dont make any. If i stop, boy, i get "gun in mouth" level depression. My minor is endo, i know these issues both acadymicly and personaly. The shrink who said that, frankly, dosnt know jack ****. Low T levels can also inhibit the effectiveness of anti-depressants.
1130576 tn?1260154370 Complicating the picture, however, is the fact that a large number of children and adolescents suffering from depression have other associated psychiatric illnesses such as anxiety, disruptive behaviour and drug abuse. The symptoms of depression among this group remain largely the same as in an adult group; however, most of the manifestations due to the illness pertain to adjustment with peers and friends, problems in school, and indifferent or deteriorating scholastic performance.
Avatar m tn My doctor says the goal of depression treatment is complete remission. e.g. I still take meds but no longer consider depression and significant influence in my day to day life. I don't "wait for the other shoe to drop." I'm almost there. Please don't give up. You are worth it.
Avatar m tn it can last from 6 to 9 months and should be treated. And what about chronic depression? What about symptoms of chronic depression? If depression lasts longer than nine months, it is chronic depression. Its episodes go away only to return in a short time. This is a long-lasting mental disorder causing loss of interest in everything and interfering with our daily life. There is no much information about causes of chronic depression.
Avatar dr m tn Unfortunately, I see more people in the former group, in women as well as in men. One woman even told me that she curses the mornings when she has to wake up. Do you ever cry because you can’t sleep? ____________________________________________ Steven Y. Avatar m tn I think you need to seek the help of a psychiatrist for your symptoms and I recommend that you get evaluated for depression. I definitely see a problem with your health just as you do, but there is nothing more that can be offered to you from an endocrine point of view and no hormonal treatment is going to relieve your symptoms. I would also urge you to try meditation and/or yoga to reduce stress.
572651 tn?1531002957 I too think women are dismissed very often. But, as we know, it absolutely happens to men. I also think that there is a lot of advertisement where women's health is concerned, warning signs, commercials, etc., however, when you finally decide to go to the Dr. for it to get a good check, it's as if they've not been see the ads, read the articles, etc., (especially where the heart is concerned). I don't understand it, but it does seem disproportionate to me. Why is this?
Avatar m tn As a result, men who are depressed are more likely to talk about the physical symptoms of their depression such as feeling tired rather than symptoms related to emotions. In either case you need health insurance for your hepatitis C, liver disease or depression as these can be expensive to treat. If you don't have health insurance through your employer like most Americans than you should get a private health insurance plan.

Avatar n tn I am curious about the effects of HCV and Tx on sexual function in men. Various articles have described erectile dysfunction and low libido as a result of HCV, interferon tx, and/or liver damage. The biggest factor seems to be the HCV itself, and several controlled studies have been done looking at variables like liver damage, viral load, interferon history, etc. It seems that about 35% to 40% of men with HCV have regular erectile issues, regardless of the other factors.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, sorry to all of you men to post this...but, it just dawned on me that last August, I had the copper IUD inserted. Today, I thought, why not look up some info on it. It turns out that this may be a possibility. I can get into details but i will spare this at the time (your welcome guys:) But if anyone knows of any info on this---please point me in the right direction.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking Wellbutrin (now for about 3 months)...it is not relieving my depression symptoms in the least. Talked to my doctor (psychiatrist) this afternoon and explained the situation to him. My symptoms read from the pages of a textbook....feeling depressed, feeling restless, difficulty concentrating, crying jags, unfounded feelings of worthlessness, feelings of sadness, loss of interest in normal daily things and things I used to enjoy, forgetfullness, easy mood changes etc.
Avatar f tn After seeing my boyfriend last night and talking about why I haven't heard from him the last few days, he told me he's been "in a funk" and feeling kind of low. His parents have been separated for the last year and are now going through with a full divorce. His father had a talk with him about the divorce a couple days ago and as a result he's concerned his mother won't receive any benefits when the split becomes final.
Avatar m tn Only a psychiatrist could diagnose a complex criteria like anhedonia or depression itself. If he has a loss of interest in life it could be due to many things. A support group would be a good idea and he should be encouraged to see a talk therapist. They could decide if a further referral to a psychiatrist is needed. He may very well have depression but a psychiatrist has to understand specifically what is going on in his life in general to able to provide a diagnosis.
372876 tn?1215132892 Add all this with the natural drop in testosterone most men experience at some point as they mature, and it could certainly lead to the group of symptoms you describe. About the breathing question, I don't know what "costal" means either, but I do know that chronically having short shallow breathing (your chest moves, but your belly doesn't) or unconsciously holding one's breath and then gasping or sighing because of it can cause unpleasant mental & physical symptoms.
Avatar n tn Dear John, These must be difficult times for you, "DON'T GIVE UP HOPE". You are probably suffering from Major Depression.
