Avatar n tn Our child was on Prozac for a year when she was six years old - she sufferd from severe anxiety and depression. We had major issues with the Prozac. Her doctor placed her on Effexor for two-three years with moderate success but some side effects as sweating and poor sleep issues. She now takes a very low dose of Celexa and is doing well. If it were me, I think I might choose point (3) with one of the newer SSRI's (they tend to have fewer side effects).
Avatar f tn Clinical findings aside stopping smoking is rough for anyone so you can expect things to be difficult for a while and for standard symptoms from bipolar to worsen for a while. If you need any smoking cessation aides to help you can speak to your psychiatrist or doctor about it. As well they can adjust medications in the meantime so things are more stable if symptoms return.
1130576 tn?1260150770 Recent research has shown some protective benefits for children of depressed parents who participated in depression prevention programs involving cognitive behavioral therapy — a type of psychotherapy — or efforts aimed at enhancing their resiliency. Further study of depression prevention programs is needed, however. Consult a mental health professional about the options and what might work best for your child.
Avatar f tn Is there any reason for all my symptoms? Are they side effects from the drugs? Is there anything else I could be doing - not doing? I would like to golf and enjoy the summer without constant pain, swelling and tender hands.
Avatar n tn Another thing I want you to know, you have just took your first step to help yourself and your children. You asked for advise. That takes a lot of courage. Be proud of yourself I sure am proud of you! Keep all of us posted... we care. Thank You for allowing me to help.
1135275 tn?1586565652 I was watching a video on nutrition and they mention niacin as being good for depression and anxiety. I looked it up on the internet and found conflicting data......as always. What i'm most curious about is if anyone here has used it or heard of it being used to any real theraputic effect? Also, does niacin in its immediate release form damage the liver? Any information would be MUCH appreciated.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. These symptoms of headache and mood swings are most likely related to irregularity of menstrual cycle due to hormonal imbalance. Stress is considered an etiological factor in such hormonal disturbances. I would advice you not to avoid too much stress, change is practical phenomenon of life. Additionally, consult a gynecologist to rule out other causes like iron deficiency, folic acid deficiency, polycystic ovary etc. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Things have changed dramatically in the past few years re mental health. Many children are now being diagnosed and/or treated for issues that were not addressed until adulthood only a few years ago. I might suggest you google words/phrases as "bipolar behaviors in children" or "schizophrenia symptoms in children" or "personality disorder traits in children" or similar words/phrases to see if any of the descriptions remind you of your daughter.
Avatar f tn To be honest, you sound like yes, you are having symptoms of depression and anxiety. Covid can have after symptoms but for someone that has had covid twice, I wouldn't go there to think you do. There are other things going on and a history with you that would make me think more mental health. What CAN you do? Well, what about digging into the mental health aspect? A psychologist who does dbt/cbt therapy?
445783 tn?1279807333 Has anyone tried 5-htp with success for mild depression symptoms? I have a bunch of symtoms and recently made an appointment with a holistic practice in NYC. I have mild depression and anxiety, extreme fatigue which I think is hormonal imbalance. I am taking high grade multi vitamin and 50mg of 5-htp at bedtime. The extreme tiredness just started a few days ago. I sleep 8 hours and wake up exhausted and am tired during the day (so much so that my eyes actually hurt).
Avatar m tn I have suffered from anxiety and depression for a long time, and I've never felt any stigma from getting help. You have to always do what's going to benefit your children. Your children deserve a health and happy parent. It's hard to be the best parent we can be when fighting these illnesses, which is yet another reason to get help.
Avatar f tn I think you have it backwards -- drugs can only help so much, it's therapy that is a cure if there is a cure. It's also well recognized that most childhood anxiety is of a different nature than the chronic anxiety that affects adults. These meds were never tested on children nor approved for children, so are used off-label. I'd do anything to avoid meds for adults, and even more so for children.
Avatar f tn At the top of the forum index page there are two buttons - Warning signs of Depression and Symptoms of depression. The symptoms page follows the DSM (Diagnostic Statistical Manual) which is what pdocs used to diagnose mental illness. The other one, warning signs, covers DSM symptoms and a few more related signs which may or may not be present, like anxiety, irritability and alcohol use.
Avatar f tn Hi there. Many of these issues show themselves over time. We diagnose some things also by symptoms such as depression. Can't really test for that before symptoms arise. PTSD is under the anxiety umbrella but typically has an event attached to it that caused the trauma. However, anxiety is a component of that and this is a chemical imbalance that someone could have. However, again, someone must present with symptoms to be screened for it.
Avatar n tn does he hav a therapist or on any meds for his depression, ect?
Avatar n tn com and realized it is recommended for OCD in children, but not depression. It goes on, stating that in clinical trials there were no connections between zoloft and suicide in children either with OCD or drepression. I want to help my daughter be happy, but why would the psychiatrist place her on a medication which is not approved by the FDA??
Avatar n tn Following that realization, I recovered and have a lived a very full life. I am married with 2 children and have held successively more senior positions with a Fortune 500 company. Approximately a month ago, I had a very severe stomach virus that my daughter had picked up at school. Since that time, I have had absolutely no appetite. Could there be a physical reason for the loss of appetite or should I be concerned that I am going to relapse after 30 years?
556935 tn?1215720270 25 mg of Xanax. Everything we have read says that it has not been evaluated for safety and effectiveness in children and is not generally prescribed for them. What we need to know is, is it ok for her to take them? Should we take her to see another Doctor and have something else given to her or should my husband speak to her counselor about the supposed symptoms, since they aren't something that we have ever encountered when she has been with us? Please give us some advice.
Avatar f tn you do go from greiving to anger to sorrow, the hardest part is u will always be missing them, but you need to be strong for your other children they need you more then you could ever imagine, i know it is the last thing that u want to think about right now but together your family can become one again it will just take a little more time, please be strong it will get easier i promise. your family will be in our preys.
Avatar n tn By the way, sensory issues and/or depression tend to be very common with children suffering from anxiety. What do I feel you should do now? - I think it might be wise to speak to your son's doctor and express your concerns. If you feel that he/she is not able to help you, then request a referral to a pediatric mental health specialist (as a child neurologist or child psychiatrist) for more prudent advice. I wish you the best ...
Avatar n tn m now wondering if perhaps my symptoms are due to depression or are perhaps exacerbated because of depression. My question is can depression be a purely physical disease? In other words, can one have depression without feeling 'sad' emotionally? I've always been a happy, optimistic person. I have no other major stressors in my life, aside from my present illness. I'm a 30 y/o male with no history of any serious illness. I'm in good shape and have a good social life.
Avatar f tn IT DOES SOUND LIKE THE CYMBALTA ISN'T WORKING AND YOU NEED TO ADDRESS THIS. Hi, I understand where you are coming from as I was once a single mom of 3 kids, they were 4,2 and 1.You say you deny your children nothing, I hope you don't mean this literally, as this alone can add to your stress. But maybe you just need things put in perspective. You are doing the most important job in the world, raising children, shaping them into responsible, respectable adults. It can be overwhelming.
