Common Questions and Answers about Depression medication prozac

depression

Avatar n tn Also my psychiatrist told me alot of people who suffer from anxiety/depression will think the medication is making them worse because the are already struggling with anxiety/depression. However, some medications just don't work for people, or cause side effects such as fatigue. I was on lexapro 10mg for a year, then stopped, and started to take it again for a little over a month and it no longer worked for my anxiety. So I slowly weaned off the lexapro and switched to cymbalta.
Avatar f tn I am currently looking for a new depression medication. I need some info on something that is NOT a SSRI, a hormone, and is not zoloft, celexa, or prozac......also something that does not contain salicylic acid aka aspirin. If anyone can help I would appreciate the help.
Avatar f tn Are there ANY anxiety/depression meds that are allowed to take during pregnancy?
Avatar f tn Hi, I had on medication for prozac and had stopped for 2 months. Now my psychiatrist thinks that I need it back but then due to financial problems I won't can afford it. I had reacted badly when I was due to see counselor last 2 weeks ago and earlier on I had taken the prozac for more than half a year. Do I really need the medicine?
Avatar f tn I am so very sorry that you are feeling so poorly. Perhaps Prozac is not the medication for you. We all react differently to drugs. What suits one person may not suit another. For instsance Prozac made me very, very ill and I had to stop it within the first few weeks. I found another anti depressant that suited me just fine and got rid of depression, anxiety and panics. It was the beat meds I ever took.

Avatar m tn I have been taking Amitriptyline for a while for depression and pain but 6 weeks ago I suffered a stroke and my depression is worse so was given Sertraline along with the other.
Avatar f tn I have been taking a number of medications since I turned 21 in 2008, the first being Prozac, Adderall, and Seroquel. I was only prescribed Seroquel for as long as my doctor wanted to "observe possible Bipolar symptoms".... after about 3 months he took me off Seroquel. After years of continued difficulty with bouts of depression, anger/irritability, sleep, I saw a new doctor in 2015 who prescribed Abilify 5mg along with Adderall.
Avatar f tn the second is, if you switch immediately to a new medication, a different medication even in the same class of meds can't prevent withdrawal from the first med as they all work differently and you can't tell which problems are withdrawal from the first med and which are side effects of the new med. By the way, Paxil is notorious for weight gain -- I gained a lot of weight on it.
Avatar m tn I have been taking prozac and klonopin for depression and anxiety. Other than this two medications, is there anything else (like supplement) can I ask the doctor? Thanks for your advice in advance.
Avatar m tn I have been on Prozac since the 7th grade. Im 19 now and when I first started they didn't tell me all of the side effects. I later found out that Prozac can decrease sex drive and cause weight gain. Now I am looking for a new medication to talk to my doc about, that can help me possibly increase my sex drive and at least maintain weight. If there are any sugestions that would be great.
Avatar f tn I know my mental health is important, but I feel very confused on If I should take this medication. Part of my depression is because I recently moved to Wisconsin and know nobody I'm home all day and it's just been really lonely for me lately. Please no judgemental comments, I am just looking for some female support.
Avatar m tn If you are not getting relief from taking the medication after 2 months then either it is the wrong dose or simply the wrong medication. Not every medication works well for every person and it may be that you have to try something else. So please contact your doctor to discuss this. Also, I don't know where you are from but if you have psychologists there that teach CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), it is worth making an appointment.
541196 tn?1293552936 I take Lexapro for depression and anxiety. It has really helped me tremendously. I am also diabetic and take Janumet. I would like to become pregnant soon and was wondering if anyone had experience with Lexapro while pregnant/breastfeeding. Do you know if it's approved or known safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Avatar f tn Serotonin syndrome is extremely rare. On the other hand, Buspar doesn't really work very often -- it doesn't even work in clinical trials. So if you're that scared of it, it isn't likely to be a great answer anyway. I would say the more important question is, if you're still that anxious, Prozac isn't known to be the most effective drug for anxiety as it's a more stimulating ssri.
Avatar f tn I never had anxiety till I started taking Prozac, Im taking Prozac for severe depression but ever since being on it anxiety has been my major problem, I can't go a day without a panic attack or feeling sick due to anxiety, I'm throwing up from anxiety at least once a week and I'm constantly trembling and shaking and having paranoid thoughts. Prozac destroyed more than it fixed for me.
2044839 tn?1331255841 Hello there! A friend of mine is on Prozac for depression and it works awesome for her. She used to cut herself everywhere because of a severe social disorder (sorry, the name escapes me), bipolar depression, and an anxiety disorder. The difference was like night and day. She had to go through inpatient care just because of her specific condition, but the Prozac was the first thing they tried when she was sent home, and she's been great.
1427534 tn?1283119534 Psychiatrists are generally more knowledgeable when it comes to medication than general practitioners. A psychiatrist would be most likely to know what medication would be more prone to work for you. Now if you want my opinion on Prozac well it's a safe bet. Very high success rate, good for people with depression and low motivation, good tolerability, tons of literature about it. In my humble opinion the first antidepressants to try are Zoloft and Prozac.
Avatar f tn I was on Prozac for post natal depression, for 3 years , after several unsuccessful attempts to stop I have now not taken Prozac for 2 months. I felt completely better and had felt brilliant for the required period ( 6 months) before my GP stopped my medication. I was 20 mg a day. However I feel as is I am heading back (albeit slowly) to where I was mentally before. I am feeling short tempered, hard down by, over sensitive, tearful, over emotional, paranoid, insecure.
Avatar n tn If you have been on Prozac for 9 years then there is a good chance that it has lost it's effect for you. As a result you symptoms of depression may have come back, which is what is causing this depressed, slugish feeling. When my meds stop working then I feel the same way. I'm supprised you even got 9 years from one SSRI medication. They usually poop out by then. These meds don't stay effective forever. after many years your body will find a way to resist the antidepressant.
