Avatar f tn to talk to people with the same depression illness as me?
1668478 tn?1303433602 I am not knocking pandamans advice, and with certain people, medication can help. However, I would strongly urge you to first try the support groups, therapist, and school councerlor before asking for medications. Very often, issues such as depression can be controlled without medications. The problem with medications is if you don't need them and therapy/group support can help the problem, is you become dependent on them.
Avatar m tn I am in Cairo for two month and was wondering if there is any support groups for people with chronic pain or depression?
Avatar m tn Are there any support groups that meet for Chiari survivors, sufferers in Knoxville, TN. My daughter had decompression surgery a year and a half ago. Since then she has been suffering from headaches and mind seizures as well as fear, depression and anxiety. She has had to quit her job and we are probably going to have to file for disability for her. I think a support group would help her feel not so all alone.
Avatar f tn First I'm a male 21 years old and live in Garden Grove California. I have anxiety, I haven't seen a doctor and been diagnosed but I've quite had a few panic attacks, also for about 2 or 3 months I couldn't leave the house. My dad has anxiety as well and although he kind of got it he didn't at the same time. I got an anxiety workbook which had a section on some other things including OCD and depression. In the check for depression I showed 7 of the 9 signs for it.
Avatar f tn I am currently looking for a new depression medication. I need some info on something that is NOT a SSRI, a hormone, and is not zoloft, celexa, or prozac......also something that does not contain salicylic acid aka aspirin. If anyone can help I would appreciate the help.
Avatar m tn He was very good and after a couple of meetings he prescribed me with medication for what he called a chemical imbalance in my brain that caused depression. The meds worked and I definitely wasn't as sad most of the time. So for seven years I've taken meds. More recently I've started to feel, emotionless and even angry (on the inside). Im not suicidal like I was in middle school, but I definitely don't feel good.
Avatar m tn If you are taking medication for depression does that make your system take longer to ejaculate and also make it harder to gain an erection?
Avatar m tn Many factors like family history, genetic disorder, symptoms, severity, any history of treatment etc. once diagnosed, the patient of depression can be treated with a number of ways. Medication and psychotherapy are the common ones. Antidepressants help the patients by acting and balancing the neurotransmitters in the brain. They can be taken by consulting a doctor.
1187323 tn?1264440436 I have been on medication for depression and anxiety for a few years. Every few months my psychiatrist has to change my medication as they stop working. Is this common and will I ever find medication that will work long term without having to change the dosages? 1874452 tn?1349634777 Hi, my name is Lynn and I have had depression for many years, but once I changed my way of thinking, I changed my way of life. I went for psychotherapy sessions and emotional support groups. They can help you change your negative thinking into something positive. You can build self confidence and motivation in yourself. Also taking antidepressant medication can help. See a psychiatriast and ask him about psychotherapy. It really does help.

Avatar f tn First, there is no proven link between serotonin and depression. What is known is that altering how your body utilizes serotonin can make an anxious or depressed person feel less so, but that doesn't do anything to cure the disorder. So no, nobody "has" to take an ssri to combat depression, and many antidepressants don't target serotonin or target it exclusively. Second, normal is a relative term.

647391 tn?1275016633 If you have a mental health agency where you live-they may have support groups for people with depression and/or bipolar; other mental health issues. Doctors sometimes have educational classes for diabetics. Health departments have parenting classes. On & on. Sorry to go on so long. This is to show you that going in and just 'babbling' is OK if that's what you need. Often-as I LISTEN to MYSELF talk-I end up with these 'Ah-HA!
Avatar f tn Recovery does take some time and committment but with depression medication and talk therapy work together. The best thing to do is make an appointment with a psychiatrist who can see if you have depression (or what is going on in general) and a talk therapist just to plan out recovery goals for life issues everyone experiences. For some people cognitive behavioral therapy is good in addition.
Avatar f tn Either can help. I had a rough patch but I was lucky. I exercised my way through it.

780665 tn?1239026549 re going to hear a lot of depression coming out of such a group. In spite of that, many groups leave people feeling somewhat better, or more understanding of their own situations, when the meeting is over. If you join such a group, and you consistently feel worse as you walk away, that's not the group for you. Only you can decide that. So many good wishes to you! Let us know how you decide to tackle the problem.
Avatar n tn This was the only thing that seem to help with my depression. I am now clean, depressed, and have been on Cymbalta for 3 years. Is there a medication for me?
672839 tn?1305792947 To me, there are two types of groups, 1) Support and 2) Self Help. Support Groups are places to go and feel safe. Lead by others with medical conditions like ours, opinions are shared by all, and comfort is widely given while tears flow. The discussions are personal and individualized making this the place to be when your chin is on the ground. Self-Help groups relieve a different pain. In this setting professionals teach you the steps necessary to better yourself and your position.
1772975 tn?1314149804 In order to be diagnosed with psychosis you need to experience one or more of these things: hallucinations (visual, auditory, etc), delusions, disoriented thoughts / speech. There are other symptoms, but you need to experience these for more than 3 months for it to be diagnosed as psychosis. You can not treat yourself for psychosis, but you can join support groups both in real life and online. You don't need medication if you don't want it, but I do suggest therapy.
