Common Questions and Answers about Depression medication for pregnant women

depression

Avatar f tn I couldn't be happier, but I have concerns about having depression and being on medication. By partner and I have been talking about wanting to start a family for sometime now. Back in April I made an appointment with my doctor and decided to go off my antidepressants as I wanted to do a trail run and see how I felt (wanting to be chemical free for when we do have a baby). Make a long story short it went awful a month in. I had severe anxiety attacks and my depression hit hard..
Avatar f tn Depends on your md but zoloft and wellbutrin( no clue how to spell that) are frequently prescribed to pregnant women. Also depends on how severe the depression is a risks vs benefits thing. As far as anxiety not really sometimes anti depressants help. My md said take benadryl, it doesn't make you less anxious but makes you sleepy...
Avatar n tn I've been taking my anxiety and depression meds since day 1 my psychologist took me off the medication and i got real depressed and my anxiety i couldn't control the baby started to go thru withdrawal my obgyn put me back on the medication immediately I'm due feb 22 and baby looks very healthy.
Avatar f tn Also your doctor may prescribe medication for the depression if he or she feels that it is severe and necessary. You're not alone at this time. There are several people out there willing to help you, and there are several women out there with similar problems. I really hope you feel better soon. I know how draining it can be. I have been on bed rest for the majority of my pregnancy. I'm just now getting back into the swing of things. Still waiting for my son to be born.
Avatar n tn How do you guys deal with depression during pregnacy? I have been fine up til now 22w1d. Now I don't feel like my self and just want to enjoy it since it's my last baby. I understand keeping stress under control but seems impossible right now. Dealing with my husband and his mentally unstable brother and moving in 3 weeks. It all seems impossible right now. I would like medication to be my last option.
9171934 tn?1405183632 I am really sorry to hear this. Depression is very hard and when pregnant, it can be even worse. You are exactly right, the hormones can push mild depression to a new level. There's criteria that doctors use to diagnose depression that often includes things like feeling this way every day for at least two weeks. The mention of suicide in your post really worries me. Honey, that is something to absolutely discuss with your doctor.
1564367 tn?1296001270 The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and hold your head steady. Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently. Age over 15 years -do this for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day. Age under 15 years -do this for 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
Avatar f tn Once you have the baby, monitor that closely and take medication again if you drift to depression as post partum is a hard time for some women. If there is anything I can do to help, I always here.
Avatar f tn I think somewhere between 10-15% of women devolop prepartum depression, and the risk of having postpartum for these women is much higher. I'm currently pregnant with my first due in 20 days and out of no where about a month ago I began feeling different alone, confused, scared, and several other little nagging feelings which won't go away. The best thing you can do for your baby and yourself is speak to a healthcare represenative so they can determine the best route of help.

Avatar f tn I'm 9 weeks pregnant. I've been on seroqel 150mg a day for years also cymbalta 30mg. When I was 3 weeks pregnant I took myself of cymbalta completly. I've been in severe depression not wanting to do anything. I'm just wondering if I should go back on cymbalta. I'm on 150mg still because I was on it with my last pregnacy and everthing was fine.
Avatar f tn The high prolactin levels stopped my periods and i didn't get pregnant for three years i was on dostinex 6 weeks when i got pregnant it dropped the levels straight away. I sometimes even just take half a tablet and as long as i continue to have periods then i know my levels are down. I had blood done a few months ago and my thyroid tested and everything was normal so they put it down to mental health problems which have just got worse as time went .
Avatar n tn Can an increasing HCG level cause depression in some pregnant women? I am now 7.5 weeks pregnant, and everyday I feel more and more depressed. Sometimes I am so depressed that I feel I dont want the baby, then I feel extreme guilt, and this goes on all day long, along with crying. For Those of you who know my story, I miscarried once then planned to get pregnant, and at first it looked like this one wasnt going well either, but turned out to be ok. I dont know what is happening to me.

Avatar f tn They started winging me off of it by cutting my dose in half for 5 days then into 1/4 for 5 days, then to every other day for 5 days and then off of it. Today I am on the 1/4 a pill dose, and I already can feel the affects. I am getting agitated much easier and I am starting to get my anxiety back and feeling lonely. Anyone else go through this? Did anything help?
Avatar f tn How many of you ladies have/had postpartum depression and did you take medication for it or try and "ride-it-out"? What were your symptoms and how long did they last? Ive definitely been having bouts of depression and feelings of being overwhelmed - yesterday I was in Walmart and called hubby to ask about an item and he asked me to get something else and I suddenly felt overwhelmed and like I was going to cry! LOL.

Avatar n tn I am a mom of two adorable boys but I have in the past (and presently) suffer from depression. Getting through my last two pregnancys without meds was extremely difficult. While on meds I can say (without bragging too much) that I am a great mom (as great as any mom can be - we all have our days). Depression like everything else is a disease and it is horrible. I LOVE kids. I want SO MUCH to have another child.

Avatar m tn In any case, my spouse has stopped taken celexa and because we are trying to get pregnant. It was suggested for her not to take a medication as such during a pregnancy period. She did consider a natural medication to help with the depression (ie St. John's Wort) but to my knowledge is not taking anything at this time. Are there any suggestions to help her through this? Should she stay away from commercial medications? Is there a common or less common alternative? Thank you for your time.

Avatar f tn I can't say what would work for you because what works for one person may not work for another. For me, I manage to get through it because my fiance and little girl need me. She needs me to stay healthy so she can grow, and when she comes into this world, she'll need all my focus. Try to look for the root of where the depression is coming from. If you can figure that out, you might be able to look into working to fix it.
