Common Questions and Answers about Depression medication change

depression

Avatar m tn He was very good and after a couple of meetings he prescribed me with medication for what he called a chemical imbalance in my brain that caused depression. The meds worked and I definitely wasn't as sad most of the time. So for seven years I've taken meds. More recently I've started to feel, emotionless and even angry (on the inside). Im not suicidal like I was in middle school, but I definitely don't feel good.

It seems to work for a little while and then stops. Or maybe it's just me? my diagnosis is bipolar 2 although sometimes I think it's bipolar1 with depression. I never have any energy and i feel trapped in my house. I am very antisocial. I don't want to be. I just cant help it .
1187323 tn?1264440436 I have been on medication for depression and anxiety for a few years. Every few months my psychiatrist has to change my medication as they stop working. Is this common and will I ever find medication that will work long term without having to change the dosages? I'm currently on four different meds for depression and anxiety and one for hypothyroidism.
Avatar n tn Everybody reacts differently to depression. Currently my TSH is at 14 and I just started medication yesterday - my depression takes the form of no motivation, to get up and go to work or do house work, cry at the drop of a hat and sleep. Being around people and drinking is the last thing I want to do but as I said everyone is different.

Avatar f tn I am currently looking for a new depression medication. I need some info on something that is NOT a SSRI, a hormone, and is not zoloft, celexa, or prozac......also something that does not contain salicylic acid aka aspirin. If anyone can help I would appreciate the help.
Avatar m tn If you are taking medication for depression does that make your system take longer to ejaculate and also make it harder to gain an erection?
5394463 tn?1367323852 last month I saw a psychiatrist who diagnosed me with severe depression but did not prescribe any medication because he wants to make sure of the diagnosis since I have a history of extreme mood swings and delusions that last few months. since then I've seen him once every week and he also asked a psychologist to evaluate me who suggested I should start anti-depressants as soon as possible to control my symptoms.
Avatar f tn So I am an 18 year old girl, freshman in college. I was diagnosed with ADD when I was about 11 years old. My doctor prescribed me adderall, which I still take. Between age 11 and now, my doctor and I tried different MG's of adderall to try to find the best fit.
314833 tn?1263259499 Hello all...I have suffered from depression since i was a young child...I am bipolar, have PTSD and panic attacks. Four years ago I had a really big break down...Tried to kill my self over 6 times...hospitalized probably around 20 or more times...However during this time my medication was change almost every two weeks...(everything i read stated that how long it can take to work) after realizing that medication wasn't going to work I decided to do Electroconvulsive therapy or ECT.
Avatar f tn If you have mania/bipolar disorder it is likely you will need medication for life but it is possible to be stable without depression and manias, if you take the medication. Life with out the hospital unit is defiantly possible as well, depending on how long you were there will change how hard it is to adapt. I hope this answers your question.
1075007 tn?1255646051 Everytime I go see my doctor (General Practicioner) he has me feel out a mood disorder questionaire and my answers determine my medication. What do you recommend I do to get off of these? I just got laid off my job so I do not have health insurance to see someone else. I still have refills so I pay cash for these.
1571730 tn?1314725245 I already knew I was bipolar and as did my doctor. The first medication they put me on citalopram, ended up causing really bad halluciantions and to me hearing voices, which I guess stemed from a manic episode (honestly when I go through my manic fits I'm never giddy I"m all irrate/irritable. They ended up putting me on bupropion 50mgs which did nothing for me now I'm going to I think they said 100mg twice a day or possibly 200mgs once a day.
Avatar n tn I am taking Lamictal 150 but none of the other meds. Any change in medication may take some time but if you are not having really bad side effects I would journal about how you feel and also take advantage of the mood tracker on here. If the symptoms persist you can print and show the doctor how you have been feeling and they will likely change your medicines......Good Luck.
Avatar m tn The point is that yes if you are on a medicine it is usually necessary to take it everyday but if a certain side effect is to intense it is necessary for a medication change. It has to do with the half life of the medicine. If it stays in your system for 24 hours that means that it is gone in 24 hours. The halflife of the medicine is 12 hours. That means that it peaks at 12 hours and is gone in 24.
Avatar f tn Im on medication for depression and anxiety. Also occasionally I have a sedative in case I go bizzercerz. Would that hurt my child more than stress would?
953190 tn?1276516034 re depressed again, I would definitely go back on this medication. Always keep in mind that every medication works differently in different individuals. Every situation and body is unique, so go by what you know has worked for you.
Avatar f tn It depends on which medication, there are some that are safe. Ive been having issues with it, because ive already taken all the ones that are safe at one point and there are very few that are safe.
