Avatar n tn The dreams are often traumatic and I'm tired anyway. What's the point of sleeping?! I'm not suffering from depression and I have a regular schedule in terms of sleep (Usually get at least 6.5 - 8.5 hours a sleep). My diet is pretty good and I get an average amount of excersize. Everything I do is in moderation (no drugs either, btw). Can someone PLEASE shed some light on this? Why am I dreaming so much and why do I feel exhausted after a "good" nights sleep? Perplexed, Ms.
Avatar f tn If it is not indigenous depression, you could think of discussing any other possible causes for secondary or reactive depression, such as hypothyroidism.
Avatar n tn Other possibilities are chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, low Vit B12, low iron, low calcium, sodium and potassium. Hyperthyroidism too causes increased sweating and tiredness. It can also be due to menopause so get female hormone panel including LH, FSH, prolactin, estrogen, progesterone done. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have increased my Erfa dose a little, from 2 to 2.25 G. This causes drowsiness in the evening and morning. In the morning it is difficult to wake fully. When I take 2 G, there is no such problem. What other causes may be for drowsiness?
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist suggested that Cytomel may help some with depression and also with the tiredness and sleepiness I have had for years.I went to internet and read about hypothyroidism and how it often is undiagnosed due to normal blood test. Well I was uneasy about the Cytomel at first but when i saw how many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism I have I wondered if that isn't my problem. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia also and wondered if that has anything to do with the thyroid.
Avatar m tn Suffering from excessive day time sleepiness, fatigue, and anxiety / depression with anxious breathing. Also have migraine-like headaches, eustachian tube dysfunction, nasal congestion for going on five years. Have seen docs before but diagnosis is always seasonal allergies and anxiety. A recent sleep study indicated I had mild sleep apnea and hypersomnia - my AHI was all hypopneas, no apneas, occurring in both supine and non-supine positions.
1692704 tn?1307215380 I noticed that depression and anxiety is a common occurrence with chronic lyme. Depression and anxiety can cause the exact same symptoms as Lyme. Undoubtedly, there are people that think they have chronic Lyme that suffer only from depression and/or anxiety. It is hard to tell whether or not they really suffer from chronic Lyme. As with all antidepressants, side effects are wide ranging. One has to be dedicated to taking antidepressants.
Avatar f tn My daughter is a cosmetologist and she told me the topo causes the hair follicles to close. What has fallen out, wont grow back, but the hair loss should stop when you discontinue the drug. The Topo really messed up my cycle too. I think my adrenals took a hard hit from just two weeks on the drug. For me it was not worth it. I was stupid, depressed and started having panic attacks on it. I would loose blocks of time. Huge blocks.
Avatar f tn He is 29 years old so how common are those? I was wondering if the depression is so severe could these symptoms be just that? Any help to give would be greatly appreciated as I like to do my own research as well.
Avatar m tn After awhile, wouldn't someone assume that the anxiety, depression, etc... are secondary causes to something else. I've never had a thyriod scan or any dye put in to see if it could be my pituitary, hypothalmus, thyroid gland or something else that is not working or misfiring. 1. Paxil (25 mg, oncer per day, had a bad reaction) 2. PaxilCR (25mg, once per day) 3. Xaxax (1 mg, take one tablet daily) 4. Zoloft (Various pill sizes, the most I was ever on was 250 MG) 5.
Avatar f tn and on other levels I can't (my baby isn't due until Sept 12). However, before getting pregnant I suffered from mild depression - and felt many of the things youre feeling. the disconnection from your bf, not wanting to go out with friends, just feeling really low. many days i felt like just crawling into bed and not getting out. i would suggest that you find a counselor.
Avatar n tn 1. Does anyone have any idea as to what causes this condition to begin in the first place? I'm very frustrated by suggestions that it "must be stress" in the absence of an obvious physical cause. I know myself well, and stress is not the answer, nor is caffiene, alcohol, etc. Could a virus have triggered this? If so, is this type of condition generally life long, or time limited? I somehow feel either hormones or a virus must be the underlying culprit.
370801 tn?1264408618 We know for a fact that B12 deficiency causes depression and dementia. The twist is few people (and none of the MDs) know that one can have normal serum B12 yet low B12 in CSF. They only test B12 in CSF in Sweden to my knowledge (one of few countries that banned mercury amalgam dental filling BTW). But, coming back to my previous post, there is no way I can know for sure that B12 is what helps me recently.
Avatar n tn I used to be that way and the doctor says depression. You either sleep a lot or don't sleep at all. Both depression. Changed anything in your life recently?
Avatar m tn Hypersomnia is sometimes misdiagnosed as narcolepsy where a person experiences a sudden onset of sleepiness. The causes can be genetic, brain damage or medical disorders such as clinical depression, uremia and fibromyalgia. Sometimes hypersomnia may be other sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, sleep apnea, and restless leg syndrome. Your symptoms may be linked to depression. You should consult a psychologist for a complete medical and psychological workup.
Avatar n tn Hello, Dizziness is a side effect of the drug Phenteramine but it causes difficulty in sleeping rather than increased sleepiness. For your symptoms, anemia, chronic fatigue syndrome, hypothyroidism, disorders of the hypothalamus, psychiatric disorders like depression and sleep-related breathing disorders should be ruled out. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar m tn It seems to help a lot with the kind of depression that causes exaustion.
Avatar n tn There are sleep disorders that are associated with excessive daytime sleepiness, such as sleep-related breathing disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea, circadian rhythm sleep disorders, medication-induced sleepiness. Excessive daytime sleepiness is characterized by persistent sleepiness, and often a general lack of energy, even after a good night’s sleep. There is also an intense urge to take naps.
Avatar m tn Hello, Causes of excessive sleepiness are sleep-wake cycle disorder like in night shifts, sleep apnea and other sleep-related breathing disorders, psychiatric disorders like depression and schizophrenia, diabetes, obesity, restless leg syndrome, use of drugs or alcohol and narcolepsy(Abnormal sleep disorder leading to excessive daytime drowsiness). You should consult a sleep specialist and get all these causes ruled out.
Avatar n tn but it can’t cause excessive sleepiness without any of these symptoms associated. Avatar n tn cold intolerance, brittle/cracking nails, always tired - daytime sleepiness, insomnia, constipation, hair loss & texture changed, forgetfulness, depression, no weight gain - in fact from Sept to April lost 9 pounds unexplained. Have since gained it back and stablized weight (weigh 128 and am 5'5"). Neck tension exacerbated by stress that causes sub-occipital pain. I'm 50 and menopausal (2 yrs); take bioidentical hormones.
Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, first thing to rule out is hypersomnia. It may present as excessive daytime sleepiness or nocturnal sleep of long duration (as much as 12 h or more) or sleep drunkenness. Your symptoms are due to Shift work. The sleep problems can be resolved by transferring from the night shift or by adopting a daily sleep routine that is consistent seven days per week. Chronic insomnia may develop in individuals who work the night shift on either a rotating or permanent basis.
Avatar n tn In at least 20% to 40% of stroke patients, SWD are present, mainly in form of increased sleep needs (hypersomnia), excessive daytime sleepiness, or insomnia. Depression, anxiety, SDB, stroke complications (eg, nocturia, dysphagia, and urinary or respiratory infections), and drugs may cause this and should be addressed first.

Avatar n tn History: I have Social Anxiety and Depression. I took Lexapro 10mg. for about 1 1/2 years, but am now tapering off due to gaining 15-20 lbs. and loss of libido (Lexapro worked wonders for both Anxiety and Depression). I started Wellbutrin XL 150mg. with the Lexapro a few months ago to help counteract these side effects, but didn't have success. Now my Dr. wants me to taper off the Lexapro completely (2 more days of 5mg.) and try keeping the Wellbutrin XL 150 mg.

Avatar m tn I thought my sleep problems were directly associated with the depression, but they did not clear up when the depression did. That being said, I can't, in all honesty, say exactly when the sleep problems began. Basically, I'll suddenly become exhausted after about four hours of being up, regardless what activity I was doing. I can fight it for about two hours, but my motor skills and thought processes get worse as time goes on, finally resulting in my reeling about like a person intoxicated.
Avatar n tn Hi Thanks for writing in! Excessive sleepiness is also called hypersomnia. Some of the causal factors are: sleep apnea and other sleep-related breathing disorders, narcolepsy, idiopathic hypersomnia, psychiatric disorders, chronic use of drugs or alcohol, medical disorders like an overactive thyroid, insufficient sleep, neurological disorders, sleep-wake cycle circadian rhythm disorders (eg. nightshift work), etc.
