Depression causes irregular periods

Common Questions and Answers about Depression causes irregular periods

Avatar n tn Hello, I am 46 years old. For the past 6 months or so my periods have been irregular. Some months my period is every 19, then 33 days, then 46 days, etc. Last month it was 46 days now I have started at 15 days. The flow itself has been normal and lasted 4-5 days. Should I be concerned or can I wait for my pap in May (last pap was May 2008, and last ultrasound August 2007) to talk to my Dr. I do seem to have some insomnia and sweating at night as well.
Avatar m tn You need to go see a gyno as soon as possible. Irregular periods are not common after two years post first menstruation. Anorexia can cause irregular menstration. Weight gain is more associated with hormones. The following are two possible and very common causes: PCOS can cause irregular menstruation such as you described.

736040 tn?1257440057 It could also be something unrelated to thyroid just coincidentally... The only other thing i can think of is that Fibromyalgia causes depression and anxiety in addition to many other problems. Studies do suggest that stress due to depression or anxiety can cause hormonal imbalances leading to cycle irregularities including amenorrhea or absence of periods.
1402484 tn?1280891787 Our hormones can do crazy things to us, and the fact that your periods are irregular along with this moodiness, I would see an Endocrinologist to get checked out. If they discover that everything is fine, you may want to look at anxiety or depression as the problem, but only a qualified psychiatrist can diagnose you. Anger comes from somewhere, and normally it's an unresolved event in our past.
Avatar n tn I am due to have a laparoscopy at the end of the month, I thought I was going mad, didn't know what was wrong I have lived with constant nausea for 2 years or more waiting for this surgery, I have lost sooooo much weight in the meantime ( not that I have ever been big) of all my symptoms, pain during/after sex which causes bleeding, irregular periods to the point that I now have not had one since Feb and a few more, the nausea has been the worst.
Avatar n tn Once a definite diagnosis is made then appropriated treatment can be initiated. Irregular taking of hormones can complicate matters. Consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation. Hope this helps. Take care and good luck.
Avatar n tn 50pm I had an episode of irregular heartbeats that lasted about 10 seconds. It seems as though my heart could not get a steady rhythm and it was scary. I didn't go to the doctor until yesterday while playing basketball they started again and this time while running up and down the court. I felt my pulse along the carotid artery(neck) and the beats were sporadic as ever but I did'nt feel dizzy or any chest pain.
Avatar n tn poor diet/change in diet can also contribute to screwy monthly cycles. when you are young, your periods are usually irregular and eventually they will regulate itself. you didnt mention whether/not you see an obgyn? you should go at 18 anyway each year and especially with this situation you are in, you should definitly make an appt. they will do an exam and let you know whats going on. you could have some cysts or could be anything for that matter.
Avatar m tn Plan B (birth control pill) has numerous side-effects, but for your purposes the ones pertinent to you are mood swings and depression. More than 1,000 peer-reviewed articles have referenced birth control pills side effects to depression and mood swings. You should look into natural birth control, even if your doctor may tell you that the side-effects of the "pill"may subside over time. Perhaps yes, but the long-term effects from prolonged use could be devastating.
Avatar n tn Hello, High level of stress, cholesterol, hormonal imbalance, chain smoking, exercise excess and faulty eating habits and dramatic changes in your life style may also be some of the common causes of your irregular periods. However considering your age, PCOS is an important possibility to be ruled out. Diagnostic tests are 2 hr GTT,serum androgen and testosterone levels,LH-FSH ratio, prolactin levels,TSH levels,17-hydroxyprogesterone levels and 3D ultrasound done.

Avatar f tn Hi There I have an under-active thyroid and it causes hormonal depression, heavy, light irregular periods. PMS is through the roof when you've got this, before I ever knew I had this problem my PMS was horrendous. I went to the gym and did two or three classes on the run trying to get rid of a this stress and anxiety, depression. You could try high doses of evening primrose oil, B Vits.
Avatar f tn My daughter is a cosmetologist and she told me the topo causes the hair follicles to close. What has fallen out, wont grow back, but the hair loss should stop when you discontinue the drug. The Topo really messed up my cycle too. I think my adrenals took a hard hit from just two weeks on the drug. For me it was not worth it. I was stupid, depressed and started having panic attacks on it. I would loose blocks of time. Huge blocks.
Avatar f tn Hello, If the cyst has been classified as physiologic, then it is unlikely to cause disruption of the menstrual cycle. Other causes include stress and anxiety, malnutrition, depression, overexercising, sudden weight loss or gain (obesity), thyroid disorders and hormonal imbalance due to polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS). I suggest you to get it evaluated from a gynecologist.
Avatar f tn I have been on the pill for 11yrs now and cant take how I am feeling anymore. I went on the pill for irregular periods, but since then I have been feeling blah, libido has decreased severely, I have sinus problems- I found out I have no allergies- so I think it is related to axiety, I worry constantly about everything; I get so nervous I get light headed sometimes. I thinkk I am going to try and stop the pills. I was just wondering if anyone had similar side effects from birth control pills.
Avatar f tn You’re just having irregular periods. That is normal. When did you start getting your periods? If it was only this year, then you don’t have anything to worry about. If it was a year ago, then you’re probably still good. If not, it might be what you’re eating or even what you’re doing in school. Stress could do it. It could be anything but I highly doubt you’re pregnant because you said you were a virgin.
Avatar n tn Hi there. You are suffering from irregular periods and amenorrhea for a few months.
Avatar n tn Other causes of missed periods are stress, depression, eating disorders, too much of weight loss/gain, excessive exercise which can cause hormonal fluctuations. Ovulation dysfunction, thyroid disorders are few other conditions causing irregular periods. It is best to see your doctor and rule out above mentioned possibilities if you do not get your period in next couple of days. I hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar f tn I have always had irregular periods since I have started having periods. When I went to the doctor when I was 16 she gave me some birth control pills to regulate my cycle. When I turned 18 my insurance expired so I haven't went to get checked since and have not had my prescription refilled for the birth control. My periods seem to become more scarce. My question is there a way I can become pregnant or something to help me get pregnant that doesnt require me to get a huge doctor bill?
Avatar f tn Hello, Sometimes periods can be irregular after D+C. But since you have not had the periods for 8 weeks after the procedure, cause needs to be found out. These include stress and anxiety, malnutrition, depression, overexercising, sudden weight loss or gain (obesity),thyroid disorders and hormonal imbalance due to polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS).Smoking is also associated with secondary amenorrhea. Sometimes tumors of the ovaries and brain may also cause absence of menstruation.
Avatar m tn Stress can cause missed periods. Other causes can be from medications, eating disorders, illness, weight loss/weight gain, drugs, birth control, and issues with your ovaries such as polycystic ovarian syndrome. Three periods is a lot to miss. You should make an appointment with a gynecologist for a check-up, pap smear, and pelvic exam. It could be something as simple as stress, but it could also be something very serious with your ovaries as well.
Avatar f tn High level of stress, cholesterol, hormonal imbalance, chain smoking, dramatic changes in your life style may be some of the common causes of you irregular periods. If this was the first episode of irregularity in the periods, then wait for the coming cycle and try lifestyle modification by reducing stress and decreasing cholesterol levels.

Avatar n tn Hello, I am a 22 year old female who has irregular periods. I don't take any kind of medication except for an Antipsychotic for my bipolar depression, and anyways I have been bleeding for over a month now. It's not light spotting, but moderate. I was wondering what the causes for spotting for such a long time might be? This isn't the first time this has happened to me either. This happened one time also about 2 or 3 years ago.
