5864500 tn?1380893197 There are different kinds of depression, but I think what you're talking about is clinical or chronic depression. Unfortunately. most people diagnosed with clinical depression are kind of stuck with it. That doesn't mean it cannot be managed and treated however. Like you said, it's kind of like diabetes or hypertension...it's something you'll always have, but it can be controlled, and there will be periods where it's a non-issue and other times when it's a big issue.
Avatar f tn At an early stage of clinical evaluation, EEG may be useful in the discrimination of organic dementia from pseudodementia, because EEG is usually normal in depression, confusion, agitation and other psychiatric conditions. In pseudodementia due to intoxication with sedatives the EEG is usually dominated by diffuse beta activity." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar f tn Hi I hope this will help! Vitamin B-12 deficiency causes nerve pain or tingling, dementia, mental illness, tremors and difficulty walking. Also when vitamin B-12 and vitamin D deficiency together can mimic multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue syndrome and postpartom depression/phychosis. The way I found this info is I have some of these symtoms. I searched (surfed) the internet individual searches like vitamin A deficiency symptoms.and so on.
Avatar n tn It is unclear as to the type of symptoms you had or the severity, so the diagnosis is unclear. The most common forms of depression, major depression is very treatable with 70-80% of patients responding to appropriate treatment. Likewise panic disorder, one of the common forms of anxiety is very treatable. I suggest a re-consult with your treating physician regarding the your present symptoms and current treatment regimen.
Avatar n tn I have a family member that has extreme anxiety and paranoia -- this also leads to depression. He has had this problem for over 30 years. I would like to try to help him and understand what are some natural ways from him to address this problem. He has tried drugs (for four months) but believes they cause other side effects Some exactly of the problems he has. He is a US citizen but refuses to go back to his home country because he thinks that US will not let him back him.
446963 tn?1205333997 now my pain doctor is trying to take me off of the few percocets i get, because he went to a seminar that said percocet causes depression.now i have to pay hundreds of dollars to see a pychatrist for him to decide if the percocet is depressing me before he prescribes anymore meds for me.i have to be treated for my organ pain, i cut back a couple weeks ago for fear i need to save them. i ended up in bed in violent pain for 3 days, delirious, couldnt breathe, chest pains.
Avatar f tn I think that post tx depression, lethargy, brain fog, and lack of motivation seem to be the biggest complaints. Mine have lasted over three years beyond finishing tx, and I am SVR. I truly believe that the interferon changes the brain chemistry, and possibly also the nerve circuits and pathways, thus causing a wide array of post-tx complaints long after the drugs have cleared from our systems.
337923 tn?1423328772 I was afraid I had early dementia. I attributed it to depression and worked with my doc to add meds to improve my alertness, etc. (Adderall and others). They helped, but I still was wiped out and confused all the time. After the HCV diagnosis, it was almost a relief to know that at least some it was from virus fighting and not depression.
2033435 tn?1329947108 In the last 3 weeks I can hardly get out of bed and I can't pinpoint if it's just laziness, depression-related or a hypo symptom. I know hypo causes depression and no one really knows if it's egg or chicken paradox etc. I feel bad about feeling this way and sometimes I feel that in fact I am a lazy bum using this as an excuse. I am kind of going crazy with these feelings and it would help to understand if it's normal.
Avatar m tn I found this out a few years ago when i was looking into low blood pressure and depression which are quite often linked, and though i don't have severe depression i do get the mental fog and find it very hard to learn things, i am wondering if this could be because oxygen in my blood does not pump around quickly to the brain. I was wondering if you also have low blood pressure John as your symptoms seem very similar to mine, and also whether you have been like it all your life.

Click out of it and then go back in and you won't get the banner. (tip). Something else that comes up on when I read about this is nutritional deficiency. Something else to look in. Give those a read and see if there are any things worth talking about with your doctor. By the way, do you have kids?
Avatar m tn There's no history of any neurological problems in my family as far as I know, but there is anxiety and depression (and dementia) on my fathers' side of the family. My sister has anxiety, she's been on antidepressants. My mom's mother did have Parkinson's late in life, now that I think about it. I also see a therapist bi-weekly (been doing that since the divorce 2 years ago), and just saw someone yesterday who specializes in anxiety and meditation.
Avatar n tn The most important step is have him evaluated by a dementia expert. There are many causes of dementia, and an expert can systematically evaluate each possibility. A neuropsychologic test battery (performed by PhD psychologist specialists) may be helpful in difficult cases such as this. I hope this helps. As you know, this information is provided for your medical education only.
Avatar n tn in the hospital she was diagnosed with dementia and depression and given IV fluids, and put on Zoloft; since she got out of the hospital she sits on the couch and does crossword puzzles, and nothing else; I have been preparing her meals and she will eat small amounts of soft, sweet food only , but has no interest in preparing the meals or doing anything else; could this dementia have been caused by the severe dehydration and possibly clear up in a while?
Avatar f tn If you have any long term problems with depression, then you need to stay on some type of anti-depressant because otherwise it is even more difficult to get the medication to work again and you may need a higher dose to treat it. Depression also causes a number of physical problems, such as early aging diseases such as osteoporosis, dementia, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
Avatar f tn 0) I've been suffering for YEARS with all symptoms (chronic Depression, always cold, irregular period spotting, irritability, fatigue, no sex drive..) but doctors never blinked an eye or did anything. i hear that "Optimal level" for TSH is 1-2.0, so would TSH of 4.5-6.0 be MILD case of Hypothyroid? I am new to all of this. How high is considered clinically "Serious" or "Dangerous" if you are close to the top range TSH 4.5 ?
