Avatar f tn At an early stage of clinical evaluation, EEG may be useful in the discrimination of organic dementia from pseudodementia, because EEG is usually normal in depression, confusion, agitation and other psychiatric conditions. In pseudodementia due to intoxication with sedatives the EEG is usually dominated by diffuse beta activity." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn The research done is mostly on older folks who have depression and also signs of dementia, and the question then is, is the depression causing the dementia or the dementia causing the depression. This is found in those with severe depression. What I tried to say in the post that got taken down was that I wouldn't want to frighten you by suggesting your depression is causing a permanent problem or not, as science doesn't have a definitive answer to this.

Avatar n tn I have a family member that has extreme anxiety and paranoia -- this also leads to depression. He has had this problem for over 30 years. I would like to try to help him and understand what are some natural ways from him to address this problem. He has tried drugs (for four months) but believes they cause other side effects Some exactly of the problems he has. He is a US citizen but refuses to go back to his home country because he thinks that US will not let him back him.
Avatar n tn The question I have for people who might know is if I should be evaluated for dementia or is this just that doctor listing possible causes of things on the MRI even though it's not likely or probable. This MRI was done in June 2021 and my most recent VEEG visit was this month.I had a CT w/o Contrast in September of 2020 and the findings were "Brain parenchyma: The brain parenchyma demonstrates normal gray-white differentiation.
Avatar f tn Vascular dementia, which occurs after a stroke, is the second most common dementia type. But there are many other conditions that can cause symptoms of dementia, including some that are reversible, such as thyroid problems and vitamin deficiencies. Avatar m tn They need to know all this information and also rule out age related disabilities that can be of concern such as dementia (which can have many causes) which would require them to adjust and/or change the medication within their discretion.
