Depression causes acne

Common Questions and Answers about Depression causes acne

Avatar f tn but I did't take the medicine also because I read that it causes depression and a gain of weight. what do you think? because I have also acne problems, and I took some medicine like roacotine (am not sure of the spelling) but didn't work :( so I am thinking of heading towards cosmetics (maybe its not the best option) but I am not sure if the treatments and external creams are better or not?! do you have any advices?
Avatar n tn I believe that the depression was caused by the acne returning, not by the accutane. I am interested as to what extent the occurance of depression after accutane is related to relapse or is it the same for those whose treatment results in remission. All my negative thoughts are about my acne. I wonder what the negative thoughts of those who were cured by accutane but still developed depression are about?
Avatar f tn The common causes of acne are poor diet, stress, genetic, dirt, hormonal imbalances, cosmetics, work-related and drugs. Avoid popping or scratching them. Drink plenty of water. Take a good sleep. If the symptoms persist then oral and topical antibiotics like Clindamycin and tretinoin/isotretinoin or accutane may be needed. Stop smoking and too much intake of coffee and tea. The size of bump, consistency and other characteristics are important for determining the correct cause.

I would be interested to hear from those who's treatment cured their acne but still developed depression, what did your negative thoughts center around? i feel depressed because the acne is back.
Avatar n tn Some people are then cured from acne permanently, some need a second or third course. Accutane has been linked to depression, but in my opinion it's the acne that causes depression.Read the question i asked dr rockoff about accutane and depression, you may find his answer reassuring.
Avatar n tn avita and retin-a creams, etc. the acne is now causing me more problems than the depression. have you heard or read about acne as a side effect of effexor? would you advise that i switch to a different med that does not induce acne? also - is there anything i can do about the night sweats with effexor? thank you.
Avatar f tn it is a spectacular, life-changing drug that's been in regular use for almost 24 years. It rarely (if ever) causes depression. It causes tremendous happiness when people miserable over their severe acne finally clear up. If you doctor recommends it, don't let the alarmist publicity scare you off. Properly used, it's a safe and pretty-easy-to-take drug, and it's effectiveness is reliably remarkable. Best. Dr.
663901 tn?1232653271 One of the major factors in my depression is my tendancy for acne. But many people report that medication for depression or bi-polar disorder causes them to breakout. Which topical lotion have you been prescribed? Synthetic retinoids like Retin-A or Differin are very effective as is Duac gel (clindamycin plus benzoyl peroxide). But you have to apply it religiously and be patient, it will take about 8 weeks to clear your skin.
Avatar n tn Using drugs increases the risk of mental illness and should be avoided by acne patients who are already at a higher risk of depression and anxiety. Eloise.
Avatar f tn This is particularly effective when used in conjunction with an oral anti-biotic like erythromycin or an anti-androgen pill like Diane35 or Yasmin. Please do this now as acne will increase your anxiety and depression.
Avatar f tn HPV absolutely causes acne. There is no way it's just a coincidence that I was acne free for 6 years and then 2 weeks after I contract HPV I am breaking out. It's a disease that affects the skin. It's not like there isn't merit to this possibility.
Avatar f tn You probably have symptoms - but they are very subtle - low libido, depression, no /impaired sleeping, acne, fatigue, poor healing, hair changes, etc. All symptoms of something else but they oddly will not respond to meds... I thought for years it was my thyroid, PCOS, etc but no... Your doc should look at the tests - and look for the source - find an expert.
Avatar m tn Ever since about age 15, the exact same time I started getting acne, I have been experiencing problems that pregnant women experience. At 15 all of the sudden my digestive system is soooooo slow. I can eat something and not poop it out until like 2 days later. I am VERY depressed and never used to be, I have a great home life. I am really sensitive to things people say, my friends have been like "dude what's your problem lately?" because the little things they say set me off.
Avatar n tn (Random periods, depression, anxiety, facial hair growth, acne…etc) Again, I am not currently trying to conceive, so I have not tried the diet while trying to get pregnant at the same time. The diet is very hard, but I would at least give it a try. I do not know you or you daughter, but I will be praying for you. PCOS can be very hard to deal with, and I do not look forward to dealing with it when I do eventually try to have children.
Avatar f tn My daughter is a cosmetologist and she told me the topo causes the hair follicles to close. What has fallen out, wont grow back, but the hair loss should stop when you discontinue the drug. The Topo really messed up my cycle too. I think my adrenals took a hard hit from just two weeks on the drug. For me it was not worth it. I was stupid, depressed and started having panic attacks on it. I would loose blocks of time. Huge blocks.
Avatar n tn My derm said that there is no evidence that roaccutane causes depression cos they would have banned this drug a long time ago if patients all became suicidal. As for muscles aches, sweaty hands, dry eyes and all that less common side effects, i observed that people with high doses like above 50mg have them, but not people like me who is taking a lower dose of 20mg per day.
Avatar n tn I am a 27 y/o female and have had abnormal hair growth on my stomach and chin area the past few years. Also I have suffered from many pimples/acne on my face and other areas Are these related to some hormonal imbalance and what can be done about them?? One other thing is that for around 5 or so years now I have had large pimple like growths under my arms that eventually burst containing a puss like substance and blood. After they have healed they leave scarring.
Avatar f tn I am a relatively healthy 25 year old female. I have had acne since I was maybe 12 or 13. Extremely sensitive skin- adverse reactions to salicylic acid and anything higher than a 2% benzoyl peroxide. Have tried differin, retin-a, duac, also natural solutions such as tea tree oil, lemon, honey, coconut, eggs, yogurt, witch hazel. Also have tried systems such as proactiv and muriad to no avail.
Avatar n tn after the itching stop, the skin where it appeared becomes sort of depressed and the inside of the depression showed some very small lines/waves just like blood vessels. I came back to derm, he took 2 biopsies of my big toes' lesions where the bumps appeared. He gave me clobetasol which he said the strongest available. I asked to start another pred regimen. I started on the pred for about 5 days and again after 2 days it suppressed the rashes.
Avatar f tn I was just wondering if anyone has been on birth control pills and have suffered from anxiety or depression issues? I have been on the pill for 11yrs now and cant take how I am feeling anymore. I went on the pill for irregular periods, but since then I have been feeling blah, libido has decreased severely, I have sinus problems- I found out I have no allergies- so I think it is related to axiety, I worry constantly about everything; I get so nervous I get light headed sometimes.
Avatar n tn Daughter wants to get a chemical peel for some acne scarring on her facial cheeks. She has been on antibiotics (too harsh on stomach), antibiotic topical cream, retin-A, you name it over the years. We even paid out of pocket for dermabrasion treatments several years ago. She is currently on the form of the Pill as well to help with the acne. There is some scarring, but not severe. She is a young woman and frustrated and wants a solution to this situation.
Avatar n tn The lack of magnesium causes problems with microcirculation and causes the blood vessels in the hands and feet to restrict - according to my GP. If you suffer from cold hands and feet it could well be this and supplementation with magnesium could help. It can also be caused by undiagnosed celiac disease. I've also heard that it's apparent in about 15% of people with CFS/ME.

948349 tn?1294383837 Me and my friend suffer from depression bcz of acne and I'm gonna try this with her!! THANK YOU SO FRICKIN MUCH!!!!!!!
Avatar n tn I came across this site trying to gather information on what has been happening to my face. I have always suffered from acne, yet in the past years it has gotten out of control (i am 27). I do not have cysts regularly, but my face is cluttered with numerous small acne bumps, most hidding little very thick hairs beneath them and puss. I know my acne is rooted from facial hair. I try to pluck them and I get acne when they begin to grow back, and ingrown hairs.
Avatar n tn In the past there were times that I kept waking up because of depression. In those times I woke up from a dream and usually had a feeling of anxiety or even anger upon waking up. Nowadays I sometimes wake up from a dream but most of the time not. I wake up anytime between 2 am and 5 am and can't get back to sleep. I think it must be either depression or sleep apnea however my breath is not short when I wake up.
309783 tn?1271961829 I wonder to what extent the occurance of depression is related to relapse, that is that the acne causes the depression. Or does depression occur at the same rate for those who's treatment resulted in remission? I am particularly interested in hearing from those who's acne was cured by accutane but still developed depression: what is the nature of your depressive thoughts? I feel depressed because my acne has returned. I am also interested in contributing to anyone's research on the subject.
Avatar f tn I don't know about anyone else, but I have had such a difficult time trying to find the right birth control pill. I need one that doesn't make me tired, cause weight gain, or acne. It seems like every pill I try-either it helps my acne and makes me hungry and sooooo...... tired. I am also on Vyvanse for ADHD and that decreases my appetite.
Avatar n tn People with severe acne are often adolescent males who have a higher suicide rate than the general population. It can also be argued that acne itself causes depression. Accutane has a high success rate with most patients achieving long term remission from their acne after one course of treatment lasting 16-24 weeks. Occassionally a second or third course is necessary, I have taken accutane twice.
Avatar n tn Also, there have been big 'hoo haas' about whether or not it causes depression. I have also suffered a number of clinical depressions since. The best thing I've found for acne is Brevoxyl (4% benzoyl peroxide). It's a cream, available over the counter. (BP is available in other strengths but they don't work for me.) Hope it works for you too.
