Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera shot

depo-provera

Avatar f tn Quick question... which Depo are you on? There are two kinds, that I'm aware of: Depo Provera or Depo Lupron. I had tried the Provera when I was about 16 for about a year. I had to stop because I could not handle the side effects any longer. I did spot for about 3 months. It usually takes a few months for your system to get used to it. The Lupron stops your period completely and basically puts your body into menopause, which is the one I am currently on.
Avatar f tn H If you were my patient, i would advise you that the depo provera injection can be an excellent method of birth control. It is 99% effective and requires only that the patient have 4 injections per year. It is important to take a calcium supplement while using depo provera. Weight gain is probably the worst side effect. Hope this helps!

3113005 tn?1341773834 I am little confused by your question. The depo provera shot is given once every three months not for three months at some unspecified interval. If you mean that you received the depo shot 4 months ago, and hence, the last month, you did not get a repeat depo shot, then the answer to your question is, yes, you can get pregnant. I was on the depo shot for about 5 years before stopping to try to conceive. It took me 3 years to conceive my son who is 6 years old.
Avatar f tn I have had the depo provera shot once and never went back for the second one October 1st. I wanted to know if I should have had my period by now?
Avatar f tn It could be a side effect of the shot. How long have you been on the depo shot? or it could be irritation, a cut inside of you, sign of an STD, etc.
Avatar f tn If you were using Depo-Provera it may take longer for your cycles to return to normal. Keep in mind that Depo-Provera is designed to be a long-lasting form of birth control. Even though it is intended to help you avoid pregnancy for up to three months, it may actually prevent pregnancy longer. Depo-Provera is a synthetic hormone similar to progesterone.
Avatar f tn Can the depo-provera shot be given in between periods and still be affective? What would the effects of this be?
Avatar f tn When i was receiving the depo shot the only thing it made me do was gain weight!! The doctors say that not all women gain weight on it!!

Avatar f tn Hmm, breast tenderness is usually a side effect of estrogen excess - but I thought shots were mostly progesterone, like Depo Provera? Which shot are you on?

Avatar n tn Hi, I am not sure of what type of antibiotic might affect other contraceptives like the pill, but I am pretty sure that she will be fine on the shot. I myself had the depo-provera shot about 10 years ago. I only had one shot and I didn't have a period until a whole year later. It actually took me over another year after my period returned before, I finally became pregnant. The depo-provera shot is extremely effective.
Avatar n tn She took a pregnancy test before she got the depo provera shot (it was negative... obviously). She started having these symptoms about a week after getting the shot (the same time school started). We thought the symptoms might be a sign of her being pregnant, so she took another test a couple days ago and it was negative. I don't know what's going on, but I'm concerned. We're afraid she might be pregnant. We always use condoms even though she's on the shot... but still...
Avatar m tn I just got a shot of depo-provera birth control 3 days ago and my period was supposed to start yesterday and it hasn't. I am sexually active and the last time I had sex was on my period last month and we used condoms but I wasn't on birth control and my partner did not go all the way. I just went to the GYN and got my annual pelvic exam and my first shot of depo and so far everything has been okay.
17613647 tn?1458368560 ve read that it can take 6-18 months for your cycles to return after stopping Depo Provera. It did not take me 6 months (less) to have mine return but, everyone is different. Wishing you the best trying for another baby!
Avatar f tn I was suppose to start my period Saturday however I went in on friday and got the Depo shot. This was the first shot I have ever received. I have yet to start my period. Avatar f tn I received my first depo provera shot in march 2010, my last shot was in april 2011. While I was on Depo I had a period every 3 months right before I was due for my next shot. I was due for my last shot in July but Decided I wanted to stop taking birth control. I got my period as expected and then didn't get the shot. A week later i got my period again, and then about 2 or 2 1/2 weeks i got my period again. Now it has been about 5 weeks without a period.
Avatar m tn I am wondering if the Depo shot is the right choice for me? I have never had a regular period and have used bc pills before but now with working three part-time jobs I find it hard to remember where I put my keys let alone to take a pill. I have read what feels like hundreds of stories about the Depo shot and how people have bleed all year with it, or have some of the side effects that the FDA said are pretty uncommon? I am 33 yrs old not children and don't plan on having any.
1978422 tn?1326152277 I started on depo provera shots for the second time when my third child was born in 2008. My last shot was In January of 2011. I'm trying to conceive but I've only spotted twice since stopping the shots. Once in October and once in December. Do you have any advice?
Avatar f tn So I'm a 19 year old female who was on the Depo Provera shot from summer of 2013 until last November. The depo shot completely took away my periods and even when I quit it in November I didn't get a period until July 2nd of this year. This period was a pretty normal one. Lighter flow than I used to have and it lasted until the 6th of July. Since then I have not had a period. I have taken multiple pregnancy tests, and I always get a negative result. I always have protected sex.
Avatar f tn I have been on the Depo Provera shot for more than 5 years now. I read that the recommended amount of time that a young woman should be on Depo is only 2 years. I am 20 now and I have been on it since I was 15. I have tried to come off of it once. I bled for about 3 weeks and then got back on it. Currently I have all kinds of pain. Back, kness, neck, arms, and I have migraines. I read about a calcium deficiency when doing research about Depo Provera.
