Depo provera pros and cons

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera pros and cons

Avatar n tn I have been on Depo Provera for 13 years. I have not had a period in probably 10 years or longer. I got the flu and started taking flu medicine and two days later all of the sudden - a period. I am freaking out. What would cause a sudden period after such a long absence? I want it to go away NOW. Did the flu medicine kill my depo shot?
Avatar n tn My best friend called me up one day and said that she was thinking of going on depo. and what did I think about it? Ie had I heard anything about it pros and cons. Well, I told her all that I actually did know. Another friend told me that she took it and it worked great. Also that she had never felt better (she didn't tell me that she had to start taking antidepressants shortly after getting the shot. So the zoloft probably had something to do with her feeling so good.
Avatar n tn I was given a shot of depo-provera yesterday...and when I asked about side affects all I was told was nausea, headache, and dizziness. After reading quite a few articles online, it seems there are a lot more serious side affects than I was led to believe. I've been having lots of chest pain and shortness of breath, but the doctor doesn't seem to think it's related to the shot.
Avatar n tn I am trying to start researching about my different problems a little more as I get older, because when you're younger I think that you just follow what the doctor and your parents say, whereas I'm now old enough to start questioning whether that course of treatment is in my best interests - by identifying the pros and cons etc... So if you have any resources particularly related to depression - I would really appreciate any assistance!!
Avatar n tn yeah i would never ever tell anyone to go on that **** it has ruin my life i was on it for 6 months and i have been off it for 4 years no periods nothing i feel like **** everyday and i feel so mad at everything but i would never go on that stuff never again

Avatar f tn I will never go on Depo Provera again. My daughter was on Depo Provera at college, and discontinued the shot and has lost that weight and is thin again.'s free site has helped me keep up with my carb intake, and also tells me how many calories, how much fat etc. I use. It does this automatically when I put my food in for the day. Also Magic Bus has a forum where you can learn how to lose weight quick and even post on a challenge to keep you honest and responsible.

7195017 tn?1389114663 Hi there and welcome to med help. I'm sorry you find yourself in this situation as it sounds like a shock. Unplanned pregnancy is hard. What I'd do is think about the situation and all of your options that you have. Lay them out as to what they mean for you as you will be the one that takes the brunt of what comes with a pregnancy. Pros and cons to each option exist. If you write it all out, you can read over it and think about what is really in your best interest.

Avatar m tn I had implant in for 3 years and had no problems replaced it with new one for a year then removed last november. Heard can take a long time for fertility to come back after injection.
Avatar f tn The first was because of breech presentation, the 2nd because of possible rupture of my uterus, which it turns out wasn't the problem, the cord was wrapped around her neck several times, but both sections weren't that bad. There are pros and cons. No episiotomy, no bladder problems, (although my doc did warn me that with a 3rd section I could end up with bladder problems because they have to lift it off the uterus and sometimes by the 3rd one there is scar tissue to deal with).
Avatar n tn thinks either adenomyosis or endo, but she told me if yaz doesnt help the next step might be the depo provera shot I dont know much about it but that may be a possibility for you, or possibly even lupron depo she suggested, even though I think you get many side effects from it. It's like a fake menopause! Well good luck lemme know how things works out!
Avatar n tn depo provera and lupron. We went through the pros and cons and I decided just to give lupron a try, despite my reservations. I have heard that it has helped more than the depo provera, so here goes. I got the shot today and also pills that are the add-back therapy. Hopefully I don't have too many side effects. We'll see. I'll post later on if I need to rant! Thanks for listening guys.
17049300 tn?1457716777 each very heavy, with unbearable cramps, and each lasting about 5-6 days. There have been roughly two weeks between each period. Since I am on the Nexplanon implant, i am kinda worried that there is something wrong with the implant, or that there is something wrong with my system. So, I am making an appointment with my OB/GYN. I am scared.
Avatar f tn If you ovulate before you get the pill or the injection (Do consider pros and cons, by the way.), you can get pregnant, yes, and taking pills or getting the injection can cause some problems for the unborn child. I'd make sure to mention to the doctor what happened before starting anything.
Avatar f tn Surgery v therapy may be a tad too could debate the pros and cons with your therapist. At 35 you could stll be facing another 20+ years of periods. Wouldn't it be nice to just take them in stride?
Avatar f tn She's very hesitant about it but wants to discuss the pros and cons with the gynocologist. I've made her an appt. for the middle of June but in the meantime I'd like to get informed since it's been years since I've been on the pill and I'm sure they are much better now. Are there any out there that are better for PMS and cramps? Anyone care to share their thoughts, opinions, side effects, etc.?
312323 tn?1193300534 Well my doctor said that it would pass or shrink on its own well after three months went bye no change, so my doctor decided to give me a laparoscopy to remove the cyst, after my surgery my doctor said everything went well and I should recover fine from this surgery, well surprise surprise after one month later I was still in alot of pain at that time I went back in to see him, and what I heard was like a diffrent language to me he told me when I had my surgery he found some endometriosis on my
Avatar n tn com, they have some recommendations on different brands of hpt and the pros and cons of each. Typically, it's best to wait until you miss your period, but some people get a bfp earlier, but it's an emotional roller coaster if you don't wait.
Avatar n tn This compares with 10 for the normal IUCD, 20 for the Pill and 10-15 for the injection (Depo Provera). This is comparable to the effectiveness of sterilisation. Mirena acts as a contraceptive in two ways: it makes the mucus at the neck of the womb (the cervix) much thicker, preventing sperm from getting through and it also makes the lining of the womb extremely thin, stopping implantation. In some women it prevents egg release (ovulation). A.
1160836 tn?1332333769 Did clomid 50 mg last cycle and still didn't ovulate. This next cycle doing provera agian and clomid 100 mg. Hopefully I ovulated. Have my fingers crossed. SBD!
280700 tn?1210287416 I to have pcos and was on Metformin 825 mg. I also was put on Provera and Clomid and fell pregnant on the first cycle. I miscaried at 6 weeks. Baby dust to all of you all wish you luck!!
Avatar n tn dose anyone no any thing about Depo-Provera aka the shot and what some woman can get with periods and if a dark brown with a little hint of orange dicharge is normal?
Avatar n tn Yes, I had to wear a liner everyday and it was just a pain in the neck. The discharge would smell after intercourse and I asked the Dr. and she checked and made sure everything was ok and it was. I had the mirena taken out after about a month and went with the 10 year becasue I had too many side effects hair loss, weight gain, depression, no sex drive. Since I had it taken out I am back to normal and no discharge.
Avatar n tn But the decision is personal, and you have to weigh the pros and cons. If you find it tough for you, you could always go on a low dose of ET and see how it goes. Or try the bioidentical hormones, or other therapies out there for helping menapause symptoms.
Avatar n tn Depo isn't the monster that people make it out to be. It's a good option for some people so don't be afraid to look into it). The doctor I went to prefers to do the insertion on a patient who is on her period. But since I have been on Depo Provera I haven't had a period in about 22 months! Because I had previously had a vaginal delivery (my daughter is 16 years old now) the doc decided to give insertion a try without my period (this was last month). OMFG... OUCH! And I mean: OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
162948 tn?1205256292 I got my IUD out on Aug 5th and am ttc. I have had lots of spotting and maybe a period but nothing regular. I called my doc and they said that it takes 3 months before the hormones are out of your system. The mirena website makes it sound as though you can get pregnant anytime after removal. Any advice/stories would be appreciated. Thanks.
