Depo provera failure rate

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera failure rate

Avatar f tn Hi Dr. Goodman, I wonder if you have any information about how Depo-Provera can change the symptoms of ovarian cancer v. ovarian cysts? I have been on Depo-Provera for two years and it seems that it would mask all the symptoms that are most likely to identify a cyst vs. a tumour. Do you know anything about how the two would look different in the presence of Depo-Provera?
Avatar n tn After being on depo provera for 1 year, I decided to discontinue use and switch to the pill. I decided to be single (and not sexually active) for a while, so I decided to wait until I got my period to start taking the pill. The only problem is that I STILL haven't had a period! It's been 6 or 7 months since I stopped getting the shots. I had normal periods while on the shot, and before I was on the shot, but once I stopped getting it my periods vanished...
2030686 tn?1351692148 Not sure if you have gotten pregnant on bc before related to the fact you might have taken it improperly or if you indeed just got pregnant in regards to a failure rate. Most have a failure rate less than 1%, so failure can happen. You should definitely be using a backup method...condoms everytime in combo with your bc. You can spot and/or not have periods while taking Depo.
Avatar n tn I have also heard of poeple not getting a positive blood test until 3 months pg...But I start Provera tomorrow to jump start my period since I am 2 weeks late then CD5-9 I will take my Clomid and we will go from there...well keep me posted and I will do the same for you!! Be Blesed!!
Avatar n tn I have had endo for over ten years now and after a few surgeries and depo provera i finally put my foot down along with my husband and said Enough is enough, i couldnt live like that any longer! so i started Lucrin in Jan and i've got my last injection in a few days time. I was terrified of going on it after reading side effects but...the hot flushes, night sweats, headaches and feeling pregnant lol are nothing compared to how much pain i was in before!
Avatar n tn LilLadyee: That's incredible. Depo has an extremely low failure rate, so what happened with you is almost unbelievable. Marissa: Also, it can take anywhere from 18-24 months after the time of your last injection for the effects to wear off. It's possible that the Depo is just not out of your system yet. http://en.wikipedia.
893753 tn?1242929187 Oral contraceptives, patches, Nuva ring are all estrogen plus progestin hormonal methods. Depo Provera/Implanon are progestin only methods IUD--both copper and Mirena are devices that are inserted into the uterus. Here is an interesting site that shows how to use a diaphragm: It might work well for you since you may not want to be on something continuously.
Avatar n tn Just to add to what the other folks said - the "mini pill" that alot of women take while breastfeeding is not as reliable as the "regular" ones. It is so important to take it at the same time every day & even then I think the failure rate is greater than the regular dose pills. When my oldest was 10 mos.
Avatar n tn After reading about the Depo-Provera shot I wouldn't recommend it to anyone it can have long term residual affects on your body especially on conceiving. Pills are alright, but you have to be consistent and that requires too much for me. The new implant 'appears' great but we all know how the last implant bc went. So I would say that the NuvaRing looks like a great method.
Avatar n tn If the pill is used incorrectly the chance of getting pregnant is increased significantly (above the regular 5% failure rate of the pill). Anytime you have unprotected sex and either dont use birth control, or fail to use it correctly you run the risk of pregnancy. The only thing you can do is wait until a "normal" period is due (approximately 2 weeks after ovulation or 2 weeks after you think you were at risk for getting pregnant) and then take a test.
661650 tn?1302286158 (Other factors such as naturally occurring miscarriages and surprise pregnancies would have some impact on the numbers.) The longer-lasting (three months) Depo-Provera injection acts by altering the lining of the uterus, preventing implantation of the newly conceived life. Based on one million users with an ovulation rate of 40 to 60 percent, combined with a 25-percent conception rate, yields either 1.2 million chemical abortions per year, or on the higher end, 1.8 million a year.
Avatar f tn hello i am an 18 year old female, lately i have experenced some scary and upsetting symptoms.i am healthy, i am 5'5 and 118 pounds. i do not smoke do drugs or drink. but i am on the depo provera shot, but i dont think thats the problem, sence ive been on it for a few years and these symptoms never appeared. i exercise regulary and my job is fast very active. they interact with my daily life and seem to be getting worse.
Avatar f tn my doctor put me in Depo Provera, and I got pregnant 3 times off of it. So she said I can't go on Depo because I am the few it does not work for. Same with Marena. Marena is not good for my uterus apparently and my uterus will most likely shot it out. So i am only allowed on the mini pill which my gyno put me on RIGHT after I had my D&C for a molar pregnancy in Janurary.
Avatar n tn Depo Provera Depo Provera is a shot that a woman gets 4 times a year (every 12 weeks) to prevent pregnancy. It contains medicine that is like progesterone - a hormone that is naturally present in a woman's body. The shot works mainly by preventing the ovary from releasing an egg. -Cervical Cap The cervical cap is a small latex cup that a woman inserts into her vagina before sexual intercourse. The cervical cap fits snugly over the woman's cervix.
264156 tn?1206990594 However, some women with complex heart disease, cyanosis, or pulmonary hypertension, should not use oral contraceptive agents. The reason is that they increase the risk of blood clots. Depo-provera or low-dose estrogen can be used in some cases. Intrauterine devices (IUDs) may predispose patients to endocarditis, an infection of the heart's inner lining or the heart valves. These devices generally aren't recommended for women at risk.

1432700 tn?1283377350 So they tried depo shots which was a failure as well. I had 3 doctors say that my body had quit ovulating and wouldn't ever ovulate again. Finally to keep me from bleeding to death they tried a mirena. It stopped the irregular bleeding but I had weird side affects. I was warned that if I had the mirena removed that there was no medicine left to try and the bleeding would return. I had it removed anyway after 2.5 years. Instead of constant bleeding, my periods began to skip.
384896 tn?1335297931 It has a very slightly higher failure rate than regular pills. I was also under the impression that plan b not only interrupts implantation, like iuds, but it will stop ovulation if you have not laid an egg yet, and if you haven't noticed any cm you most likely haven't o'd. I wish you lots of luck and congrats on the new baby!
Avatar m tn Caucasians with genotype 3 demonstrated a higher cure rate (SVR 10/18=56%) than Asians (SVR 6/24=25%). Failure to achieve SVR was associated with lower platelet count, neutrophil count and albumin at baseline. Twenty patients suffered clinical or laboratory decompensation, five patients required hospitalization, and two patients died. Patients who experienced hepatic decompensation were older and had baseline characteristics associated with more advanced liver disease.
280700 tn?1210287416 I also took clomid 50mg last month and never ovulated, so the cycle was a bust and the doctor prescribed Provera again casue it could be some time before i get my period. He upped my dosage to 100mg and i'm on day 3 today of clomind. I'm basically taking clomid cd 2-6 as the specialist wanted and then he will start monitoring me on CD 9. I'm also getting IUI done so hopefully tis would help but if I don't ovulate then this cycle would be a bust also. I'm crossing my fingers as well.
Avatar f tn First pregnancy I got pregnant on the pill, second on the depo shot. All doctors say Im very fertile. I had a tubal ligation not knowing the cons of having it. My husband regrets letting me do it because of what I'm going through. Thank god for my extremely supportive family but I'm scared because i feel like no doctor is listening. I know post tubal viable pregnancy isn't normal but my body isn't normal and just wants to get pregnant.
Avatar n tn I've been told by my doctor that when the heart rate slows, there is simply more time for extra beats to happen. It could just be a matter of that. Since I've been here reading the forum tonight, I've had about eight of them, and I'm certainly under no stress, and my heart rate is around 60. At night when I first lay down, I get a few of them if I am on my left side initially. Which is no problem, since I read at night and I'm on my right side when doing so.
Avatar n tn This compares with 10 for the normal IUCD, 20 for the Pill and 10-15 for the injection (Depo Provera). This is comparable to the effectiveness of sterilisation. Mirena acts as a contraceptive in two ways: it makes the mucus at the neck of the womb (the cervix) much thicker, preventing sperm from getting through and it also makes the lining of the womb extremely thin, stopping implantation. In some women it prevents egg release (ovulation). A.
Avatar f tn Wtih Behcet's you won't have an elevated SED rate like other inflammatory disorders. With Behcet's the inflammation is caused by white blood cells with no elevated SED rate.
Avatar n tn 10 so I will ask my MD about the med to make me have a cycle (Provera has always been the usual prescribed med) I have battled PCOS for 16 years so my cycles have always been scattered to non exixtant most of the least I feel better with my weight loss physicallly and mentally I do think the Metformion has helped with my weightloss . I do not seem to have any side affects now that my body has adjusted to the medication as I have been on it for over 2 months.
Avatar n tn She said she took SEVERAL HPT and 2 blood ALL NEGATIVE. Finally when her Doc gave her a RX for provera to start her period she was tested one more time 12/9 almost a month later she FINALLY GOT a positive blood test. Her Docs theory is she just ovulated VERY late in her cycle that month!!! How crazy is that!!? It took almost a WHOLE month for her to show positive for pregnant. I mean you are alittle further than a month though. Have you got an ultrasound?
Avatar n tn I have been so depressed and can think of nothing else. I feel so unattractive. I feel like a failure. Before this terrible quick onset gain, I felt confident and proud and sexy and accomplished. I front a blues/jazz band and feeling good about myself helps me do my job as a singer. Without my usual confident self, I fear how I will handle my next performance in just a few days.............. I am so down. I did see my doctor yesterday and he had bloods drawn to check for thyroid.
Avatar n tn He said it was a common side effect to have breakthrough bleeding, and the pill has a 60% failure rate. He said I would be safe to go on vacation for July 4th, but would still be bleeding. After getting to the vacation destination, the bleeding became severe. I would bleed through a super absorbant tampon and overnight pad in 30 minutes. Then the bleeding would completely stop, and the pain would become severe. Then I would start passing massive clots.
Avatar n tn thinks either adenomyosis or endo, but she told me if yaz doesnt help the next step might be the depo provera shot I dont know much about it but that may be a possibility for you, or possibly even lupron depo she suggested, even though I think you get many side effects from it. It's like a fake menopause! Well good luck lemme know how things works out!
