Hi my name is Marie and i was on depo provera in May 07 and i had my periods in december. It was regular and my last period was in March 08. Since then i never got my periods again. Im confused and lost. Sometimes i take pregnancy tests and they all come out negative. So i really dont know what's the cause. I really need some help and answers! Recently i had sex with my boyfriend and my periods are still not here. But i feel tired and moody from time to times.
Im 28 and have never been pregnant slightly overweight but not too concerred and getting it back down periods were always regular and pain free went on for birth control, my husband has 1 child already and decided to start are own family.

I will be on my period for about a week and a half then stop for a couple days and start again. I was on the Depo Provera Shot and I was suppose to get it re-newed on the first on June. I also dont drink nearly enough water as I should be so I was wondering If that could be the reason why this is happening or could it be because I didn't re-new my birth control so my body is changing?

If you were my patient, I would advise you that the effects of depo provera can last for up to 18 months, so "abnormal" periods for up to that long can be normal. I would suggest that you start doing ovulation predictors once you have a normal period and if you are not ovulating regularly, you could start a medication like Clomid to overcome the after effects of the depo.

I just went to the GYN and got my annual pelvic exam and my first shot of depo and so far everything has been okay. However, once I didn't get my period I started to worry and I took a pregnancy test just in case and it did come out negative. I've been on depo provera for 15 years and my periods stopped right away. I'm 45 years old and just had a period that lasted 5 days. Breakthrough bleeding and really long periods are common side effects on depo provera. It's actually one of the reasons most women stop using it. Unfortunately, because it's an injectible birth control method, there isn't much you or your doctor can do if you are having unpleasant side effects. You just have to wait for the 3 months to be over and your body to either adjust to it, or to see if it just won't work for you.
In order to get pregnant though, you need to not only be ovulating but you also need to be producing fertile cervical mucous and a thick uterine lining after you ovulate. The reason Depo-Provera is so long lasting is because of the way it works. The levels of DMPA (the synthetic hormone in Depo-Provera) gradually increase over a three week period, at which time they reach their peak levels. After three weeks the DMPA levels begin to decrease exponentially.

I am freaking out. What would cause a sudden period after such a long absence? I want it to go away NOW. Did the flu medicine kill my depo shot?
