Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and cysts

depo-provera

Avatar n tn After having the Depo Provera for 9 years I quit getting it and I have since developed cysts on my ovary. Will going back on the Depo Provera help shrink the cyst to avoid any type of procedure?
Avatar n tn has taken me off the Depo Shots and I was put on Birth Control Pills. The blood was very dark red and blood clots. I was given an altrsound was told nothing was wrong. Is this normal with the Depo Provera?
Avatar f tn I am 27. I was on Depo-Provera for 5 years, and have been off it for 3 years with normal (for me) menstrual cycles. During the past 6 months I have been trying to conceive, with no success. My period usually lasts about 4 days with a light to moderate flow. However, recently (during the past few months) I have been experiencing severe cramping during my period and lower back pain, as well as constant abdominal pain (not severe).
Avatar f tn m wondering if this length will lessen, and what experiences and advice other people have had with depo, and whether you would recommend it long term for a 16 year old.
Avatar f tn Hi again -- I posted a while back after I had surgery to remove a 6 cm cyst on my right over in June. That was my second surgery in less than a year (had cysts removed from both ovaries in August 2008). I'm on once-monthly depo-provera shots to prevent new cysts and control pain, as an ultrasound found another cyst on my left over just a month after the surgery. Anyway, now it's my right side that hurts again -- BAD. It's been about a week, and is getting worse.
Avatar n tn I am 22 1/2 years old. I have two children ( 1 & 2 1/2). I had an Essure ( permenant birth control) procedure done on September 4th 2007. prior to that ( august 29) i had a Depo-prevera shot. After the surgery I started bleeding. I still have not stopped besided maybe a day here and a day there. It has went between spotting to heavy ( 1 pad every hour) bleeding. My big concern is, When I was 17 I had an abnormal pap smear and then a LEEP biopsy.
Avatar f tn I have a history of anxiety and depression. Is depo-provera a good choice or a bad choice for birth control? Thank you!
Avatar f tn I have had the same pain for years. I started Depo Provera birth control...which stops your period and keeps cysts from growing any larger and sometimes they reduce in size. I know from my exp.that it has helped a ton with the pain. I don't know how old your are but the Depo Provera shot does rob bones of calcium...so soon I will switch my birth control to Lybrel...it also stops your period. Good luck to you...I hope this helps you.
Avatar f tn Im 28 and have never been pregnant slightly overweight but not too concerred and getting it back down periods were always regular and pain free went on for birth control, my husband has 1 child already and decided to start are own family.
Avatar f tn Ive had a ongoing problem with ovarian cysts, and during my first treatment a doctor as good as told me long term use of this contraceptive could have been to blame...since then another medical professional has hinted the same thing.I cant help but wonder if this could be the case, after all contraception of any invasive type interferes with normal bodily functions so cant do you any good really.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am not sure of what type of antibiotic might affect other contraceptives like the pill, but I am pretty sure that she will be fine on the shot. I myself had the depo-provera shot about 10 years ago. I only had one shot and I didn't have a period until a whole year later. It actually took me over another year after my period returned before, I finally became pregnant. The depo-provera shot is extremely effective.
Avatar f tn My gynecologist recently informed me that she suspects that I MAY have PCOS due to my lack of ovulation and heavy menstrual cycles. So she has prescribed me depo provera in order to control my heavy bleeding. (My periods have ALWAYS been irregular since I was 11 and it's very common for me to miss 2- 3 months of a period and then to experience heavy bleeding for over a month!) But they did a vaginal ultrasound and found NO cysts! They said my uterine lining was a little thick but NO cysts!
17213106 tn?1456525991 Hello, I'm 35 years old and I've been having some issues and could really use your help. This last month, I've been having some serious stomach issues. I've been bloated, horrible indigestion, acid reflux, nausea, back and chest pain. I went to the ER 1/29/16, after a CT scan and Ultrasound, the DR found a cyst on my right ovary, a pedunculated fibroid outside my uterus(which is retroverted). I was diagnosed with PCOS about 3years ago, but never experienced these issues.
Avatar f tn s no way to tell for sure, but more and more proof is coming out that autism is NOT linked to vaccines, and because depo provera is an active hormone shot and not a vaccine, I highly doubt that it is the cause. Are your other children girls by any chance? Very often a family that has an autistic child only has 1 (almost always a boy), and the rest of the children are "normal". They are thinking more and more that it's a genetic mutation.
384896 tn?1335294331 not sure about the breast feeding part but a lot of women on this site might agree with me to stay clear of depo-provera. I was on this bc for 2 and a half years and have been ttc for the same length of time with no joy. I was diagnosed with depression at 16 years old when i was on this, i asked the doc if that was the problem and was told no, when the depo eventually cleared from my system so did the depression my family say i was a new person.
Avatar f tn m outside the normal range of time after stopping Depo Provera to have gotten my periods back. Could Depo be causing these problems or does it sound like something else could be a problem?
Avatar f tn My husband and I are ttc. Back in April of this year I had surgery to remove cysts from mybtube. I had been on depo since December of 14 and once I stopped august of 16 I never had a cycle. Long story short I had the surgery thinking that's why my cycle was non existent. Non the less I never had a cycle.. My on/gyn prescribed me a round of provera 10 day I had a cycle 3 days after stopping. But didn't have one the following month.
Avatar f tn In order to get pregnant though, you need to not only be ovulating but you also need to be producing fertile cervical mucous and a thick uterine lining after you ovulate. The reason Depo-Provera is so long lasting is because of the way it works. The levels of DMPA (the synthetic hormone in Depo-Provera) gradually increase over a three week period, at which time they reach their peak levels. After three weeks the DMPA levels begin to decrease exponentially.
1591347 tn?1299082387 I am a 26 year old woman and about two years ago I stopped getting the depo provera shot. I have a medical history of irregular periods and by the time I stopped getting the depo provera shot I had been taking birth control on and off since I was 18 years old. Currently I bleed almost completely all month long. It stops for a day or two and then starts up again. It's not very heavy about 90% of the time, but occassionally it is heavy. I weigh about 360 lbs.
Avatar n tn One thing I noticed during my internet search was a number of results discussing Depo Provera and how it has caused the onset of early menopause in women even in their 20’s. Has anyone else heard about this, and if so, are there other resources I can review to get more information on this correlation? Thanks, I just have to know what is causing this!
Avatar f tn My doctor told me i had sciatica in my left leg, and that it would go after 3 or 4 weeks on its own, but it hasnt, and im starting to think my symptoms are maybe that of a cyst/cysts on my ovary. I had the Depo-Provera contraception injection in january, and since that, my symptoms have become alot worse, and ive suffered with persistent bloating and weight gain. But im still unsure as this could be water retention due to the injection.
Avatar f tn I started birth control at 13 to help with the cysts, I was on the pill for a few years then started the depo provera shot around 18. That worked for awhile. I thought I out grew the pcos like my doctors promised would happen. Come to find out the shot merely masked the disease. I am now 100% off birth control. I take 100mg of progesterone everyday to try and help. However, blood work indicated that I'm unusual.
Avatar f tn Recently, Me and My Boyfriend had un-protected sex.. and afterwards i started bleeding. we haven't had sex in a week, what could time be a sign of.. I am on Depo Provera-the birth control shot?
3113005 tn?1341773834 I am little confused by your question. The depo provera shot is given once every three months not for three months at some unspecified interval. If you mean that you received the depo shot 4 months ago, and hence, the last month, you did not get a repeat depo shot, then the answer to your question is, yes, you can get pregnant. I was on the depo shot for about 5 years before stopping to try to conceive. It took me 3 years to conceive my son who is 6 years old.
Avatar f tn The period usually returns after stopping the shots, however, it can take 3 months to a year for the effects of Depo-Provera to wear off and fertility to return.
Avatar f tn Irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all Headaches Nervousness Depression Dizziness Acne Changes in appetite Weight gain Excessive growth of facial and body hair Hair loss Loss of bone mineral density Most of the side effects are not common. Change in the menstrual cycle is the most common side effect. You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting. After a year of use, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. Their periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
Avatar f tn I've been on depo provera for 15 years and my periods stopped right away. I'm 45 years old and just had a period that lasted 5 days. My question is whether or not depo provera is still working as my birth control choice? Is there a way to know if depo provera is no longer working and if I may get pregnant?
