Avatar n tn 1. be careful with "getting your own" dental insurance. Plans not offerred through employment are usually very poor, and are usually not really "insurance" at all. (Is it Ameriplan?) They are usually "savings" plans where if you go to a paricipating practice, your fees are drastically reduced. Keep in mind the dentist does not get reimbursed by your "insurance plan" at all. It is not my place to say much more, other than to be really careful.

Avatar n tn i just checked out the site. its for dental insurance plans. i misunderstood. the biggest problem i have found with these are many dentists dont accept it. again check the fine print and make sure you know all the restrictions. each plan has its own "catches" so read the information carefully. i checked into these plans and the only dentist that took it were foreign and involved in the aspen plan (see above post).
Avatar f tn I'm only 22. No insurance and no job. I live in a rural area with no means of transportation. I have had weird teeth ever since I was about 8 and would love to get my teeth worked on. I need cleaning; fillings in at least 4 teeth; 2 wisdom teeth pulled (one grew in with a cavity); missing a tooth so need a fake one; and braces to push back teeth, pull together teeth, and spread some apart. I think one tooth has even started spotting brown towards the back.

I think for California, medicaid doesn't cover dental anymore for adults so it may vary from state to state. It sounds like you have an abscess. Go to your primary care doctor and get a prescription for the infection to at least keep it under control while you find a dentist.
Avatar m tn I just keep hearing more and more stories about people losing their insurance. In those stories I am hearing about more and more people who do not qualify for subsidies, and if I lose my insurance me and my family is in that boat.... we do not qualify for subsidies. If the democrats were smart, they would have waited to put this out there. They would have worked more of the kinks out and that would have given the country a lot less to belly ache about.

Avatar n tn hi, i don't have any dental insurance so I need to pick and choose which tests and procedures at the dentist are really needed. I ask you this because I hope to find unbiased opinion. Last time I skipped the peridontal xray, but got the cavity xray and cleaning...he found 2 tiny cavities that ran me $400 out of my pocket but later a hygenist said maybe that wasn't necessary as the decay could have been reversed... So what do I "really" need..
