1044526 tn?1254514545 Besides the MS society chapter in Nashville, I would encourage you to attend any of the free programs (usually sponsored by a big pharma company like Teva) that you can find in your area. Talk with the people at your table and ask what groups they might attend. I have found three different groups through this method. It is universal that MS patients everywhere like to share... :-) Contact your drug mfg or look on their website.
672839 tn?1305792947 To me, there are two types of groups, 1) Support and 2) Self Help. Support Groups are places to go and feel safe. Lead by others with medical conditions like ours, opinions are shared by all, and comfort is widely given while tears flow. The discussions are personal and individualized making this the place to be when your chin is on the ground. Self-Help groups relieve a different pain. In this setting professionals teach you the steps necessary to better yourself and your position.
Avatar n tn I have shied away from going to support groups for various reasons but am beginning to think now maybe one would be helpful. Thoughts? I feel like I am losing ground daily not only physically but also emotionally. I have applied for social security disability (something I said I would NEVER do) because my physician refuses to release me to go back to work. I just feel that I can no longer be the "strong" one.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know off any support groups you can go to in Belfast?to talk to people with the same depression illness as me?
Avatar m tn Why was my response to this thread removed? I have not had any communication with any mods regarding my post & yet it is gone. I know I referred to other web sites but numerous other posts do similar. I was trying to help the OP get the support they are seeking.

Avatar m tn Are there any support groups that meet for Chiari survivors, sufferers in Knoxville, TN. My daughter had decompression surgery a year and a half ago. Since then she has been suffering from headaches and mind seizures as well as fear, depression and anxiety. She has had to quit her job and we are probably going to have to file for disability for her. I think a support group would help her feel not so all alone.
Avatar f tn i heard that there are support groups i was wondering if anyone knew of a site i can search for one in my area or does anyone know of one in the daytona beach fl area?
Avatar m tn It seems that Seattle does not have any support groups in the area? How do people cope when they find out they are positive for HSV 1 or 2? I was diagnosed over 3 years ago through a blood test IGg. I have pretty much isolated myself from going out, meeting anyone and I have no one to talk to at all. I got blood tested after going online and requesting the STD test through quest diagnostics laboratory. My results ccame back positive for both HSV 1 and 2.
2059648 tn?1439766665 I do not treat for cancer (non liver cancer in my case) at present and I hope I will never have to. But with cancer tx - it seems that we have lots of support groups. There is a Cancer society, they do free stress control courses, free counseling and they will have volunteers to stay with people during their chemo sessions. They have a special hotel across the hospital for people coming out of town for chemo. For hep C - nothing.

Avatar m tn If you are concerned about approaching her about it there are support groups such as NAMI friend and family support groups that could perhaps give you some ideas. The best thing to do is to encourage her in a supportive manner that it will help with her recovery.
Avatar f tn You and she do not have to try to figure this out on your own and yes, contact the MSAA or any of the other support groups. I believe they could tell you what is available in your area in terms of support. There are also places or organization that have grant money to help with the cost of assistive devices. I don't know what insurance you have but some funding for technology may be available through them.
Avatar f tn Good job for reaching out and recognizing you need help ! Proud of you ! The best thing you can do is talk about your feelings. Talk about your loss. Talk about being sad. Talk about how it has effected you. Even writing in a journal can be helpful - I speak from experience. Sorry to hear about your loss. I highly recommend a grief support group. There are many grief support groups in the country to help people deal with the loss of a loved one.
Avatar m tn It sounds like you set up a type of detox for him. Eventually he will need to do this on his own and with support from other people as well as you. You've done a great job! Interest him in reading the posts on this site. That's a good place to start.

Avatar f tn Why does there seem to be no interest in starting local support groups for people with eye health conditions? On down days it sure would be nice to be able to pick up a phone and talk to another person fighting the same battle that you are living with. I greatly appreciate the Doctors here who take the time to answer our medical questions. Thanks to all of you.
