1618806 tn?1304734477 m highly concerned about the advice your dishing out about Ms. Dash. Ms. Dash IS NOT a salt substitute it is merely a salt replacement. There's a WORLD of difference between Ms. Dash and Morton Salt Substitute (for example) which is loaded with Potassium Chloride. If you take the time to read the ingredients on ANY Ms. Dash flavors, you'll find nothing but herbs and spices, there's absolutely NO potassium chloride in it. Point of reference: http://www.mortonsalt.
973741 tn?1342342773 High blood pressure runs in my family and I've been able to dodge meds by following this diet. Keeps my pressure within a good range + exercise. Excellent!
Avatar m tn Also, look at the DASH diet that was designed by the National Institute of Health to help lower your BP through diet, here's a link; http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/hbp/dash/new_dash.
Avatar n tn I then went back to my doctor stopped taking the Zanadip and I said to him I will need 3 month or so to reduce my BP naturally by DASH Plan (Dietary approach to stop hypertension) My doctor said he did not believe in any of that and tried to start me on another drug which I refused. I am 9 weeks into the DASH plan and reduced salt. My last 2 BP readings one month apart at the surgery were (1) 140/90 and (2) 130/85 I am due the next reading in 3 weeks.
Avatar m tn foods in marriages, pizzas, pasta, rice, ice creams, fried things and things prepared wd maida (refind flour) and besan, my blood pressure shoots up.... what should I do. I am taking olmitime 20 from last 1 month.......but still I cant eat these things.
Avatar f tn The second number in the blood pressure reading is always worse to be high. The first number is the pressure when the heart beats and forces blood out of the ventricles. The second number is the reading when your heart is resting in between beats. It is always worse to have the pressure higher on your heart when it is relaxing for a half of a second. Anyways, I would not worry to much about it! Keep monitor it for awhile, and get you one of those digital home blood pressure monitors.
Avatar n tn You can start a blood pressure medication, or begin by exercising aerobically, 3-4 times per week. Restrict your dietary salt intake, and adhering to the DASH diet also has been associated with decreasing systolic blood pressure.
225237 tn?1333138999 Welcome and thanks for your question. Yes, anxiety can cause your BP to be elevated. Our BP is affected by many outside stimulus including stress and anxiety along with things like caffeine and other stimulants. The best way to reduce BP is to reduce the underlying causes. Try to get the stress out of your life, if you need help discuss it with your doctor. Losing weight will help considerably. Before I started working out n 2005, I too had high BP and was on meds.
Tbd Hi there. Sodium or salt is one of those tricky things in that there is so much in our food that we may not even know. Secret salt, I call it. A can of tomatoes or a can of soup can be very high in sodium! To answer your question, 200 mg of salt a day is not too much. Actually the guideline from the American Heart Association is up to 2300 mg of salt a day! Now, that's the upper range of being 'okay' and you should check with your doctor for where they want you to be.
Avatar n tn I am 10 weeks pregnant but facing an issue of high Blood pressure, the blood pressure is around 135-145 everytime, doctors has asked me to cut off salt and sweet completely but the I am very much afraid about this as well as don't know what to eat please help or guide
Avatar f tn s forums. Thanks for your questions. So, your blood pressure is not controlled with this particular medication? That is surprising that your doctor is not worried about this. Perhaps this is a good time to seek a second opinion? This would be my recommendation. Please also remember that if you are approved for it, exercise works very well at helping to control blood pressure. The American Heart Association recommends even just walking for 3 minutes 5 times a week.
Avatar m tn Welcome and thanks for your question. Your weight is most likely a big factor in your BP. It is not true that once on BP meds you will be all your life. I have lost over 80 pounds since starting on meds and my doctor has just instructed me to come off them so it can be done. You may also want to look at the DASH diet. It was designed by the National Institute of Health to help lower BP. Here's a link to it; http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/hbp/dash/new_dash.
Avatar f tn well, if that's your pressure when you say it is spiking, that's not high enough for a doc to generally get alarmed about - unless you were normally much lower. Say, if you went from 90/60 to 145/90, then the change is great. But if you don't have a monitor, how do you know your BP spikes after meals? I would be concerned if I were you, too. Have you tried the DASH diet, which you can read online?
Avatar n tn I'm a 38 year old female and have always had blood pressure of 117/74 or lower. The odd time it would be 120/80 but this was rare. For the last 4 days i've checked my pressure and it has been on average 129/76 (i check it very regularly at the drug store). I've very concerned that it is this high so quickly. I've always battled my weight and am currently on the Weight Watchers program. I don't smoke, don't drink and really don't have alot of stress in my life.

Avatar m tn Did they check on your kidney function in regards to your high blood pressure? What about your cortisol? How many days did they say it would take to get the losartan up to the most therapeutic levels in the body (or did they)?
Avatar m tn A diet reduced in total and saturated fat and rich in fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy foods significantly lowers high blood pressure. If followed the DASH diet will lower blood pressure, which can help prevent and control high blood pressure. By following the DASH Diet you may see blood pressure improvement in as little as 14 days! Let me know if you tried this out.

Avatar m tn re right, diet and exercise could work, it may not be enough to lower my blood pressure. They first started to notice my high blood pressure six months into hep c tx, and it has stayed that way ever since. I haven't thought much about it until now.
Avatar f tn All that being said approximately 18 percent of individuals with high blood pressure can lower the upper number at rest by ten to fifteen points by taking calcium supplements and adding 1000 mg of D3 to their daily diet. Years ago I assisted in writing the NDA on calcium channel blockers and this was one of the findings in the literature presented to me.
Avatar m tn During the last 2 years I am suffering from relatively high blood pressure, at evening hours it is usually arounf 140/90. I would like to learn more about that and to think what to do about that. Could anyone recommend me about good website where I can learn about that and get some advice ? Thank you.
Avatar f tn And some people especially when overweight if they have familial hypertension (as in it runs in their genes) will develop high blood pressure. Your blood pressure is too high. You need to see your doctor and begin working on this. Do you have an at home blood pressure cuff? You need one and should take your bp several times a day and record it. Sit with feet flat on floor, arm resting on table in front of you at heart level, think peaceful thoughts.
