Avatar f tn Does anyone have any advise or know of any resources or web sites that might help me with a low sodium diet plan and help me to track my sodium intake? Also does anyone know anything about the DASH diet and if this might be a good plan to follow? Thanks for everyone's help!
Avatar m tn I have no clue how to cook on a low sodium diet. If anyone could help with a meal plan or point me in the right direction, I would be most appreciative.
973741 tn?1342342773 t rely a lot on dairy. Not sure if you are talking about the DASH diet. It does incorporate low fat dairy and non-fat dairy products. It also includes eating nuts and sees and you can obtain good fats from them. Not everyone has a problem digesting dairy. The problem with some dairy is that it is high in saturated fats and such. This diet prmotes whole foods and less animal protein and products made from an animal source.
Avatar m tn There are lots of books on this. Sodium is part of it and that was hard for me. But you have to look for low sodium options. This means all canned goods and prepared foods have to be scrutinized. Tomato based canned products, even canned green beans! They make low sodium versions and this is what you need to go to. Eating kind of clean is a start. Less prepared things in general, no fast food, etc. I make things like chicken rice soup made with brown rice.
Avatar n tn There is a diet called the DASH diet which was created to help people with diabetes, high blood pressure, and hypertension. You can do a little research on line about DASH; some sites even have a menu plan. First, you should definitely discuss this w/ your doctor, to see if this would be a good diet for you to follow during your pregnancy. Also, keep exercising daily ~ exercise really makes a huge difference w/ high blood pressure, it lowers it...
Tbd Hi there. Sodium or salt is one of those tricky things in that there is so much in our food that we may not even know. Secret salt, I call it. A can of tomatoes or a can of soup can be very high in sodium! To answer your question, 200 mg of salt a day is not too much. Actually the guideline from the American Heart Association is up to 2300 mg of salt a day! Now, that's the upper range of being 'okay' and you should check with your doctor for where they want you to be.
Avatar f tn I am on a 2000 gram sodium diet, I am looking for low sodium cassarole recipes. Also a recipe for low sodium taco seasoning.
Tbd Consider doing the DASH diet, as it promotes eating foods that are low in sodium (ex: fresh fish, nuts, legumes, etc). Also consider adding activity to your day if you're not currently active. Exercise can help strengthen your cardiovascular system and improve circulation. Lastly, find ways to lower / manage stressful situations. That could help as well. There are of course, also genetic / hereditary factors that can play a role.
Avatar f tn Check out the DASH diet for all your questions. Low salt is the answer basically.
Avatar m tn well, you can try a page like this: http://www.medicinenet.com/impotence_ed/page4.htm and you're quite right about DASH being low sodium, though there's also a strong emphasis on vegetables that provide a lot of potassium. K is sort of the opposite of Na. Some people are "salt sensitive" (maybe 1/3?) but others aren't. You'd mentioned frequent urination. The drugs that cause that would be diuretics.
Avatar m tn I also do have SOME stress in life, as far as going to college and my father passed away in 2007 out of the blue. But I still would think after all this time my BP would reduce. Even if I reduce sodium intake it doesn't even budge. I tried eating beets and beet juice too once.
Avatar n tn Has any one else been placed on a low sodium diet by their baby doctor? I was told I have high blood pressure and just as a caution I should go on a low sodium diet. So I've been Googling recipes and things but I'm not finding to many. Does any one has some advice about the diet or some amazing recipes? That would be amazing!!
Avatar n tn I have to start a low-iodine diet before RAI testing soon. I'm okay with most of the stuff I can and can't eat but I'm having a terrible time just thinking of not having coffee! I usually have 3-4 cups of coffee a day, always with milk (the Hispanic "cafe con leche" tradition!) I can't live without it and if I don't have my coffee I get a terrible headache. Some diets I've seen say I can have non-dairy creamers, other say to avoid that as well.
Avatar f tn So, have you recently had your blood sodium level checked and found it to be low? How low is it? When is your follow up appointment with your doctor to go over the results and get a plan of action? The issue of sweating profusely after walking 3 miles with a backpack could decrease sodium levels at that time but that is an acute situation.
Avatar f tn Ya I would bake fish/veggies and not add seasoning. Sorry I am having the opposite problem. My sodium is really low in my blood and we cant figure out why...
Avatar n tn When I buy things like canned tomatoes/sauce, or things like beef/chicken broth, I buy the no salt added/low sodium varieties. Mostly, though, I make my own beef/chicken broths as they're much better and I control the ingredients. If you've gained a lot of weight for no reason, I'd have to ask if you've had your thyroid levels tested recently. Your thyroid controls your metabolism, heart rate, body temperature and other body functions.
1107684 tn?1448828430 I have been looking for a eating plan to lose some major weight. Has anyone tried this plan? If you have or are doing it now please let me know. I want someone to be stright forward with thier results. I have over 120 lbs to lose. Please let me know a.s.a.
Avatar f tn t think they are bad they are just super high in sodium. my dr told me to watch my sodium intake after my last appointment because I am a little swollen. its really hard there is a ton of sodium in everything.
Avatar f tn Yes low sodium levels can be dangerous, have you tried drinking some sport drinks? http://www.diagnose-me.com/cond/C549291.
531005 tn?1286515532 //www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/hbp/dash/new_dash.pdf 4. Your doctor would tell you your levels are normal. 5. Stress or anxiety can increase you BP considerably. 6. It takes a very high BP to cause symptoms. at 120/79 you would feel no symptoms what so ever.Usually symptoms of high BP such as 190/120 will be headaches, blurred vision and dizziness. I hope this helps!
Avatar n tn I couldn't agree more! My BP has been elevated lately as I have gain weight. My pressure is around 130/80 +/- and my doc is sure with losing the weight, it will drop as well. Also, my HR has always been high. But lately I have really been reading the lables and OMG!!!!!! Salt is in EVERYTHING! I am not sure even how people can add salt to food.! I mean it is awful! I am restriting myself to 1500 mgs a day or less and have been doing rather well.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the info. I have an appointment on Wednesday at the liver clinic. I can't seem to keep weight on and cant sleep at all. Eating all the time is not helping. Feels like I have cirrhosis masked by thyroid or something. Dr. mentioned that I have low sodium. We'll see.
Avatar n tn Anything that is processed food is very high in sodium, even your low fat items can be high in sodium. If you want a REAL shock, go to your grocery store and start looking at the levels of sodium in the foods you are eating; it will blow your mind. We did this, staying in the store for almost 4 hours just looking at lables. Both my daughter and I are on 2000mgs or less a day which means the meals we cook are set at 600mgs or less of sodium per meal.
Avatar f tn Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums. Thanks for your questions. So, your blood pressure is not controlled with this particular medication? That is surprising that your doctor is not worried about this. Perhaps this is a good time to seek a second opinion? This would be my recommendation. Please also remember that if you are approved for it, exercise works very well at helping to control blood pressure.
