385161 tn?1270081218 thats some good advice you gave there. Today I have decided to step down to the next patch the lower and last one. I've only been on the middle one (step 2) for 4 weeks but I think i am ready to move on. If it doesn't work out I will go back to the step I am on now. I thought I would be brave and give it a shot. I am not too worried, but will need support. I will be reaching out to family, friends and this site for assurance. Thanks so much for listening.
Avatar f tn Sorry I wasn't clear with my post, I'm just at wits end. He was on day 19 of the 14mg patch, and I'm sure he wasn't smoking this time. He was with me so no chance to sneak. Now he wants to try the lower dose patch, or he said he is going back to smoking. I've told him he better check it out that neither will cause more problems, but he hasn't done anything to check it out. Does that clear anything up for you and others?
Avatar n tn t let anyone give you that excuse that it is so stressful to quit smoking that you may as well keep smoking. Smoking is poison for the baby, they'd rather have the stress. But if you get the patch it should not be that stressful. My brother quit in one day because -- guess what happened from his smoking, he had a heart attack and found out he needed a quadruple bypass. (Wakes you up, right?) He did it easily by using a patch, said he never missed the cigs.
498385 tn?1362449404 These should be listed on the pakage. As for smoking while on the patch, you are not supposed to do it. Could it cause a heart attack......well, given that you are taking in twice the amount of nicotine, anything is possible. You really have to prepare yourself mentally for this quit......don't wear the patch until you are ready to never pick up another smoke. Nothing works when you half-a$$ it so make up your mind to put them down for good and just do it! If I did it, anyone can!
Avatar f tn This is a really good question!! I will second the advice you've received from Paxiled and Maddie. While I'm sure DoctorGoddess has good intentions, none of us on an internet forum can tell you what you DO or don't have. I would also be inclined to tell you to maybe give a nicotine patch a try, but what's curious to me is that the relief you feel post smoking is VERY short lived.
Avatar f tn I made the mistake of not reading the entire information slip before starting it. Right now I am on the 21 mg patch, and I have been smoking a little here and there after taking off the patch. I have a severe headache, I am nausious, my lungs feel like their closes up, which is making my asthma worse, and now I have a pain in my right arm. Is this a sign of a nicotine overdose? If so, what should I do?
Avatar f tn I know that they do prescribe it to nursing moms, however I do not think they have used it with pregnant moms. As for the patch, it says on the box that it is not to be used during pregnancy. The University of Calgary has done some studies and found that it was better then actually smoking. Not as many chemicals. That being said, I would not take responsibility for telling you it's ok, you need to do your own research and make your own decision. I would talk to your Dr.
Avatar f tn m definitely a stress smoker so lowering my stress has helped me quit smoking without using any of the regular quitting methods. Also surround yourself with people who don't smoke, and note the times where you usually smoke -morning with coffee, 10 minute break, etc- and find something to replace it. (This can help with break the habit, which is definitely that hardest part.
4852917 tn?1386378680 I am 6 weeks and I have cut back a lot. I was thinking of trying the patch and have switched to e cigs . Are patches okay?
Avatar f tn I think its both positive and negative. It teaches the kids the dangers of smoking/second hand smoke and the problems it can cause as well as the result od death. As for the negative, the kids with the smoking patents are now worrying about losing their parent(s) due to the day care. Im an ex smoker myself.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me know because the nicotine gets absorbed into your blood stream! Cold turkey is the best and really only way while pregnant! Try sucking on sugar free candies and think of your beautiful baby inside of you<3 good luck!
1391959 tn?1280439862 I'm not sure about the patch. You're at a higher risk for blood clots when you're pregnant, and that's one of the dangers of the patch as well. I would try to wean yourself off the cigarettes. I smoked in the beginning with my first, and this baby.
1128145 tn?1260343690 Talk to your pharmacist to clarify the specifics of how you can use heat on your body, away from the patch location. A heating pad on another part of you body away from patch placement should not effect the disbursement of the medication. Never put a heating pad or any form of heat on the patch. I applied the patch to my upper shoulder and placed a heating pad on my hip. I also used a heated rice bag on my lower back. There were no ramifications. Again discuss this with your pharmacist.
Avatar n tn m hurting my baby (my first, and we had a hell of a time getting this far). I heard that the patch is unsafe with pregnancy, since it puts nicotine more directly to the baby than smoking, and often in higher doses. I'm wondering what other women have done. How can I quit? I told my husband I will stop smoking by our next doctor's appointment (2 weeks from now) and I'm having a really hard time saying no to the cigarettes. And they don't even taste good! Please help me.
Avatar f tn some articles and information on the dangers of smoking and all the scary ill-effects it causes, think about it yourself... you will surely want to quit. ALL THE VERY BEST!! Keep us posted. We are all here to help you out.
Avatar f tn What are some opinions on smoking while pregnant? Risk of quitting while pregnant? Types of complications the baby can have?
Avatar f tn Hey, so glad to see you are trying again : ) We have got to figure out where and when you go bad and work on it. You mention stress as a trigger and I sure know about that ; ) What helps me is to rationalize that my stress will be there with or without the smoke, and then I ask myself if it's worth risking my health and at this point, my sanity!
Avatar m tn t put it off any longer than that. Immediately request information on smoking cessation programs; they may put you on the patch and slowly wean you off that way (a common way for it to be done during pregnancy) or they may have another solution. Either way...you need to make sure that you're doing the best thing for baby. is it selfish to keep smoking? maybe, but you're addicted, and no one is going to judge you. You can do this, and you must do it for baby.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm just curious in people's opinions of something. I am an ex smoker. No longer have the habit. My child's daycare have been taught that smoking kills people etc.. so move away from people if they're smoking. A lot of parents from the daycare have come in abusing the child care Centre as they're smokers and there young children keep telling them they're going to die.
Avatar m tn Every time I get a crave, I think of it as a healing spasm, the less I have the more healing is going on. I have already noticed that heavy feeling in my chest has lightened up and I dont stink either. Get raw veggies to munch on or in my case, I got dum dum suckers and just keep the stick in my mouth when done. If you are using patches, those help alot so you can concentrate on the physical habits you have developed over time.
Avatar n tn I quit smoking this morning after 21 years of over a pack/day. Been on the patch since I woke up, it's now mid-afternoon and I have a fever and I already passed out on my lunch for almost an hour. I feel like I have the flu, I'm all bloated and I feel pukey and I have a really bad headache and I'm all weak-ish, could be a coincidental flu, but I think it's probably really really bad withdrawls.
1845558 tn?1318950603 I have quit smoking many times. Cold turkey then the patch. The nicotine is out of your body within 48 hours, after that it's mental. I would try the patch and acupuncture. You can do it, the question is do u really want too. You have to get out of the habit of picking up, lighting etc...that's what the patch is for. Acupuncture can help with stress and cravings. Hope this helps.
736475 tn?1281259327 Oopps - I had the same thing happen to me when using the patch. Do Not Wear The Patch to Bed!!! After all, did we smoke while we were sleeping? Take it off at bed then put a new one on first thing in the morning. Sweet dreams should return.
Avatar f tn I have heard that it's better than smoking because it does not have the chemicals that cigarettes have in them, also you are not inhaling smoke. I have tried quitting cold turkey but it's just to difficult when the other 2 people I live with smoke. I was going to try the patch but the lower dose one cause I smoke 10 or less cigarettes a day.
335728 tn?1331414412 Thanks so much for your kind words of support and for those that are trying to get that horrible Nicodemon off your back the following is the way I quit. I started with the Nicoderm Patch BUT I tried the 21 mg and it made me have awful nightmares, skin irritation and when I told the doc this she lowered me to a 14mg patch. This was what really saved me! The doc said herself that she didn't care if I was on the patch for a year as long as I used it instead of smoking!
