Avatar f tn I think its both positive and negative. It teaches the kids the dangers of smoking/second hand smoke and the problems it can cause as well as the result od death. As for the negative, the kids with the smoking patents are now worrying about losing their parent(s) due to the day care. Im an ex smoker myself.
Avatar f tn Hookah smoke contains high levels of toxic compounds, including tar, carbon monoxide, heavy metals and cancer-causing chemicals (carcinogens). In fact, hookah smokers are exposed to more carbon monoxide and smoke than are cigarette smokers. As with cigarette smoking, hookah smoking is linked to lung and oral cancers, heart disease, and other serious illnesses. Hookah smoking delivers about the same amount of nicotine as cigarette smoking, possibly leading to tobacco dependence.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm just curious in people's opinions of something. I am an ex smoker. No longer have the habit. My child's daycare have been taught that smoking kills people etc.. so move away from people if they're smoking. A lot of parents from the daycare have come in abusing the child care Centre as they're smokers and there young children keep telling them they're going to die.
Avatar f tn This may be a good opportunity to start educating your 2 year old on the dangers of cigarette smoking. Teach him not to ever pick them up, especially when he’s older and others around him may be smoking.

Avatar m tn In truth it is full of people very often paranoid with the dangers of HIV, and this website gives some comfort, and tries to look at the real risks of say, catching hiv from a once-off unprotected encounter. And we are all paranoid from our one "mistake", (me too, i recently did something as above) and we come here and we feel better about ourselves during the 6 week window period (or whatever).
Avatar n tn re most likely laid up, I would like to suggest a website called whyquit.com. While your recovering, you can educate yourself on the dangers of smoking. You are very young and quitting now will be a lot easier than 10 or 20 years from now. To answer your question simply though; YES, one or two cigs a day will hurt you! Good Luck! :) --- 3m 4d 16:55 smoke-free, 1,433 cigs not smoked, $394.
Avatar f tn I disagree with the comment that we should accept it and not try to educate people about the dangers of smoking while pregnant. There are a lot of really young moms on here and notall do know all the risks with smoking.

Avatar f tn Of late researchers have confirmed that smoking causes back pain. Smoking doubles the risk of suffering from severe back pain, according to statistics presented at a conference on back pain in Haifa, Israel (2000). One possible reason why smoking raise pain levels that is “tobacco smoking might cause general damage to musculoskeletal tissues” by reducing blood supply to these tissues, raising clotting risks, or reducing the flow of nutrients to muscles and joints….
Avatar f tn So, here I am, for the probably 4th time tapering off a 8-10/day hydro habit. I am wondering...is this anything like quitting smoking? I smoked for 23 years, and could not imagine life without my "best friends", my cigarettes. I mean...what would I do when the phone rang, when I got in the car, after I was done eating, when I went out, sat next to the pool, etc etc. I remember thinking how will I EVER ENJOY life again without my cigarettes.
Avatar f tn There is no god-like creature that writes dosing recommendations. It is only recently that the dangers of acetaminophen have been documented. On a short-term basis the risks appear to be minimal, but the medication is inherently toxic. There is no easy answer as to whether or not and how much damage has been done to a patient's liver after long-term daily administration. Liver function tests only reflect severe damage.
Avatar f tn SIDS as well as second hand smoke dangers to you and you baby are important considerations in maintaining health for both of you. There are good prescription options for quitting smoking if your husband is willing to discuss them with his doctor. Chantix has had great success and well as Wellbutrin and quitting will keep him healthier for his baby too. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Why risk something that has been scientifically proven to affect an unborn fetus? Science was a whole lot different for our parent's generation, scientist know so much more about the dangers of smoking than before. I just couldn't see myself taking chances like that knowing as many negative stories about it.
Avatar f tn Re-reading what I wrote and feel a bit daft! I do agree with everyone else here! I was ignorant myself of the dangers of it, so am more educated now thanks to the good people here. I feel stupid for stating that it's legal. Alcohol is legal. It almost killed me and TG I haven't had a drink for several years. I wish I could take my post down. I agree that it is something to be more concerned with, and feel like my post was way too blase.
Avatar m tn Hi there, My daughter and her BF had a roomate that smoked that stuff. It's not good. Apparently it is herbs with something that they call synthetic THC. A bunch of chemicals. Here in Utah they are making it illegal because it's considered hazerdous. Google "smoking spice dangers" and there is alot of stuff on it. I think it is telling that there is a push in some states to legalize pot, and yet they are banning that stuff right and left.
203342 tn?1328737207 My husband has smoked for probably 30 years. He's 49 now. He has cut way back mainly because he can't smoke at work and such. He goes outside when he's at home, so I think he only has a few at home. He did quit drinking several years ago so I know he can quit smoking. I know how hard it is. I quit smoking 15 years ago. The thing is, he doesn't want to and I don't understand why. My kids used to beg him to quit, even leaving him notes saying they didn't want him to die.
Avatar m tn I agree with joanincarolina 100% with the comment to quit smoking! Almost daily there new statistics that unfavorably relate smoking to cardiovascular system as well as impairment to good oxygenated blood (vital to heart cells) with nicotine in the lungs. In fact the chest pain could be directly related to smoking and possible shortness of breath. There is treatment to help individuals stop.
Avatar m tn ve been told that a recent medical study indicates that a male of my age, 66, incurs decreased longevity by quitting smoking after 50 years addiction. can someone direct me to such a study, or advise if I've been misled?

Avatar m tn 64) that I now believe to be a false positive result based on comments from the doctors to me and in other posts as well as no outbreaks have occured in 7 months since possible exposure. I now wonder about the accuracy of the statistics about the number of people that are infected. "1 in 5 adults" are infected. Is this number based on the results of the HerpesSelect test which has a relatively high false positive rate on scores less than 3.0?
Avatar f tn I was in and out of the hospital nonstop. My ob dr finally told me to try smoking a little bit of weed for the naseua Meaning not to smoke it to get high just to help the sickness. Which thankfully my sickness stopped before I had to try it. But I doubt my dr would tell me to if it was going to cause problems with my pregnancy. I will say it was def not her first choice in telling me.
Avatar m tn If this worries you, which it does me a bit in the back of my brain, just make sure you get checked for oral irregularities as the years go by. If you should happen to be one of the statistics that get it, detecting it early is obviously the best way to go and will most likely minimize or negate any dangers that could occur. All in all I wouldn't worry.
