Avatar n tn Hello, Dandruff is associated with a tiny fungus called Pityrosporum ovale, or P. ovale for short. This fungus lives on our bodies and scalp all the time, usually without causing a problem. Unfortunately, for some people, it can get out of control -- leading to dandruff. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help.

Avatar n tn It is caused by yeast called Malassezia furfur which normally live on the skin of most adults. This fungus produces a chemical, which inhibits the normal production of pigment in the skin resulting in areas of lighter skin .The other differentials of your condition are Pityriasis alba which produces mild, patchy lightening of the face, shoulders, or torso. In vitiligo there is a permanent loss of pigment. It is best to schedule an appointment with a dermatologist and get checked.

Avatar f tn m going off of what I vaguely remember lol. There are 3 causes for dandruff dry scalp, oily scalp, and a fungus. The condition of your scalp is what is going to tell u which treatment to use. One remedy is ad easy as shampooing everyday and using less conditioner on your scalp. You should also try using a clarifying shampoo and a moisturizing conditioner.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, I have a question regarding white spots on my skin. About 4 months ago I used a tanning bed on about 6 or 7 occasions, and decided to stop using them for obvious reasons. I noticed that after using them I had about 2 white spots on my stomach. I didn't think much of this and just thought the skin had pealed or something, and it faded as my tan dissapeared.
Avatar f tn Anything environmental like allergies or a fungus (like dandruff or ring worm... candida) would bother u and so would eczema and dermatitis. Basically their is a change or aliment that comes from anything thats a thing. Other then that, everyone should do the abcds as a regular awareness with all skin tag, growths or beauty marks, as my family calls them. That's a cute name for moles!!! If everything is staying put then i wouldn't even worry. It could be a lil subeasous thing too ..
Avatar n tn your skin starts to develop these white spots after a skin trauma such as sun burn... it is a fungus that gets under your skin so to speak. you can get it from both normal sun exposure and from sunbeds. the fungus needs to be treated with products such as selsun blue... the reason for this is that selsun blue is an anti dandruff shampoo(antifungal)... therefore if selsun makes ur skin burn or react badly it is too strong for skin try any antidandruff shampoos and serums.

Avatar m tn The exact cause of seborrhoeic dermatitis is not known, although many factors have been implicated. The widely present yeast, Malassezia furfur as well as genetic, environmental, hormonal, and immune-system factors have all been implicated. This is a fat-eating fungus which lives on the scalp of most healthy adults without causing any problems. Sometimes its numbers grow out of control and it feeds on the oil made by hair follicles.
Avatar m tn Hi, since last spring I've been getting dandruff in my eyebrows. It's almost always in the left eyebrow. I went to see the doctor about this around May and he prescribed an alcohol based gel because he thought it was some kind of infection or fungus and that the gel would get rid of it. The gel just makes my skin ridiculously flaky where it wasn't flaky before so I only used it a few times and stopped. I've included some photos in case it might help...

Avatar n tn Both ringworm and yeast infection are fungus. in fact one of the very best treatments for ringworm is monostat mixed with hibiclense I am not a medical pro, but I did rescue 3 infested kittens 4 years ago and my hairless dogs got ringworm. from that i learned the ringworm spores can live many months. I bought a woods lamp, only to discover all ringworms do not florese. dry skin does florese. grr a waste of good money.
