Avatar f tn Seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp can be treated effectively by using an anti-dandruff dandruff shampoo containing ketoconazole or salicylic acid or selenium sulfide. If symptoms recur, you may again begin with the treatment prescribed by your dermatologist. Take care.

1305767 tn?1361192676 Does this look more like dandruff or psoriasis? It didn't used to be so bad but it's gotten worse and encroaching onto my forehead. I've also used dandruff shampoos to no avial. The weird thing is, it's only this dry and scaly job st after a shower. The next day it's hardly noticeable.
446049 tn?1649005835 The answer depends on your personal circumstances. First, the diagnosis of psoriasis might not have been correct. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder and is a form of arthritis, and I don't know any cure for it. There are medications out there to control outbreaks. All medications can have side effects, but use of this product on the skin doesn't have too many problems other than causing skin irritation, pimples, and things like that.
Avatar m tn up until now i was under the impression that it was psoriasis. but ive used atleast 5 different creams and before it used to go away for the most part but could still see where the skin was not normal. but now the stuff i use just doesnt help as much. it causes lots of dandruff and its like a thick layer of dead skin and when i pick at it. it bleeds. not a lot but enough to concern me. ive stoped picking at it cause obviously thats not good.
Avatar n tn I am also going through similar dandruff, my question to you is how do I determine, whether my dandruff is a sign of psoriasis or seborrhoeic dermatitis? FYI, my dandruff don't respond to any of the dandruff shampoos I have tried so far, I have started using tea tree oil since 2 weeks & I massage it once a week. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Avatar n tn Hello, It can be due to dandruff, eczema or fungal infection. Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help.
Avatar m tn Also i used a scalp shampoo for some symptoms like psoriasis etc, and it made my hair feel sticky and i don't think i have those symptoms.
Avatar n tn A friend had psoriasis and it looked like big flakes coming from his scalp. Maybe you could ask the doctor (or a different doctor) whether this could be the case for you.
Avatar n tn Psoriasis of the scalp and dandruff are very common. The best thing I've ever heard of to combat it is the tar shampoos. T-Gel is a name brand and there are lots of knock off's with the same ingredients. This is what dermatologists recommend.
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff and tinea capitis need to be ruled out. The symptoms of Ringworm or Tinea Capitis include a dry itchy scalp, scaling, crusting, inflamed nodules, hair loss and tender enlarged lymph nodes on the neck. Because of the scratching that is involved with the condition it can become secondarily infected with a bacterial infection. Diagnosis is by clinical examination of the scalp as well as a skin lesion biopsy with microscopic examination.
Avatar f tn hi and welcome. Something is causing the dandruff and it might be psoriasis or excema, at this point it would be best to see a dermatoligist to make sure its not the average run of the mill dandruff.
Avatar n tn It does indeed sound like you've got Sebhorreic Dermatitis. It's caused by the same yeast as dandruff, just with more intense symptoms, including crusty build up wherever you've itched too hard.. NIICE. There is a product called Psoriasin for scalp available from shopinprivate.com. It is a coal tar product which can be left to work on the scalp without making your hair greasy. It is not a cure, but it definitely removes ALL my symptoms if I use it regularly.
Avatar m tn com/skin-problems-and-treatments/psoriasis/scalp-psoriasis They also have topicals you can put on it and things that will make it peel. They sometimes use UV light treatment but this is a lot harder on the scalp if you have hair. A dermatologist has things they can prescribe. My son doesn't have psoriasis but another fungal issue. He uses a special shampoo that controls it.
Avatar n tn I have never had dandruff before. The flakes are pretty big and there is this one spot where if i go to scratch my scalp it always bleeds. I have tried changing shampoos and washing my hair with cold water instead of hot but nothing has made it go away. I notice a reduction in flakes the day i shower but after that it gets worse. Im not sure if i should see a doctor or not. What could it be?
1738109 tn?1331412572 Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes you to itch and have dandruff. I have spalp psoriasis so its only in my hair and sones times my eyebrows. It can be aggravated by stress. Another kind is called plaque psoriasis. This is red flaky patches all over the body. I have a friend with that one. She's miserable when she gets an outbreak. Oh and it's not contagious but it can be genetic for either kind.
Avatar f tn Have you tried any anti - dandruff shampoo for a start? It sounds more complicated than dandruff but it shouldnt harm your current condition. The presence of puss could refer to folliculitis. Start with a common shampoo like head & shoulders to see if it gets any better although i would suggest you to visit a dermatologist.
Avatar f tn ve been trying various dandruff shampoos but none of them have given me any relief to flakes or itch. Does it sound like general dandruff, or something more serious like excema or psoriasis? Is it something worth going to a dermatologist for?
Avatar n tn hi,i am a lady doctor currently working as a duty doctor in a private hospital since 2 years.i have been tested positive for mantoux.i have noticed koebner's phenomenon on my skin and excessive dandruff since past five years and have positive family history for psoriasis as well as allergic bronchitis.i have no respiratory symptoms suggestive of koch's disease.is it possible that predisposition to psoriasis or koebner's phenomenon can lead to a positive ppd?how do i confirm this?
Avatar f tn ve experienced extremely dry and flaky scalp. Can you look at these photos and tell me what it is? Dry scalp, dandruff, scalp psoriasis, or seborrheic dermatitis. The bad part is, I just washed my hair on Monday night. I washed it, conditioned it, put a little of olive oil (food-grade), then I braided my hair in about 8 plaits. I have to wash my hair every week b/c of my scalp. I'm unable to wear twist-outs/braid-outs or any hairstyle that requires me to wear my hair out.
Avatar n tn For the last year or so, I've had some pretty mean dandruff. Head and Shoulders does absolutely nothing for it. It's gotten a lot worse over the last few months, so I went to my dermatologist to get it checked out. She seemed pretty sure that I have scalp psoriasis, even though I don't have psoriasis anywhere else on my body. I should mention that I hadn't washed my hair for a few days, so it probably looked particularly bad that day. She prescribed Clobex shampoo (.
