Avatar f tn I am not in treatment, never have been yet. But as far as my HPC side effects, scalp itch is a big one for me. As for over the counter help, you have a few options. First is Head & Shoulders "itchy scalp care" this comes in shampoo or what I use, 2in1 shampoo+conditioner. Both have the active ingredient Pyrithione Zinc in them which is the same ingredient they use for dandruff too.

Avatar m tn I've had the same thing for a long time. I've tried everything. I happened to be reading about pyrithione zinc ...which is the active ingredient in dandruff shampoo. Turns out it's also used for dermatitis, etc....I tried it.....it works. Could see a difference after 2 showers. Is now almost gone completely.
Avatar n tn t seem to have made much of a dent in the dandruff. Like I said, the dandruff is minimal on some days and heavier on other days with seemingly no rhyme or reason. I've tried adding some olive oil to his food, and even rubbing some on him because I read it might help, but really when I massaged some olive oil into his skin it almost seemed to make the dandruff worse. What do you all think? I have read they sell dog balm and dog moisturizers, which I'd never even heard of before.
Avatar m tn Hello doctor. For the past month or so I have been using an anti-dandruff shampoo named "Triatop". It's main ingredient is "Ketoconazole". I've use it twice a week. Since I have noticed that my hair has thinned out a bit. Since this discovery I haev stopped use. My main question and concern is if the hair loss is permanent or if my hair will grow back again? I am 22 years old. What is your opinion on this and is there any action I should take? Thank you for your time.

Avatar n tn The spots are not scaly. Whenever he applies a dandruff shampoo to it, it eases and goes away. He has been told that it is the dandruff that has run down to his face.Others say that it is his high alcohol consumption which is in correlation to some liver disorder. The spots tend to look like ring worm but not exactly. When the weather becomes cool, it also surfaces. What do you think this condition sounds like?

Avatar n tn Hi, The best way to treat dandruff is to use a dandruff shampoo. Look for shampoos with ingredients such as zinc pyrithone, salicyclic acid, coal tar, selenium silfide, or ketoconazole. All of these ingredients have been shown to work on dandruff; to use the shampoo, apply it to your scalp and hair, rub vigorously, and allow it to sit for five minutes so that the ingredients can work before rinsing it out.

Avatar m tn I would check K, D ,Calcium, and Magnesium levels or get a Dr to do it. Also, with scalp dermatitis it can be caused by dandruff Dandruff is caused by 3 types of fungus, so if you only use one type of shampoo it will never go away. I think using Cesium Blue, Head and shoulder and another... check the active ingredients on the back. Usually the two are because you are having a reaction to the cold. So, use the shampoo, conditioner, and lotion on your skin.
Avatar f tn Your doctor would be able to prescribe a specific shampoo for you. Or you can purchase from the pharmacy, without a prescription, a shampoo that will treat the dandruff and any fungal infection that is causing it. Always read the directions carefully how to use those shampoos. Normal dandruff is caused by a dry scalp. At home to help moisturise the scalp you can rub some baby oil or coconut oil. Coconut oil has antibacterial, antifungal and anti viral properties.
