dandruff

277836 tn?1359666174 Dandruff is just the shedding of dead skin cells to expose new cells and is not only normal but necessary. If the shedding is excessive, it may indicate a prior buildup of dead cells that were not properly shed. I agree with others that shampooing is not beneficial and dries out the skin. Frequent light brushing is far better for removing dead cells as well as stimulating oil production.
Avatar f tn The fact that he is not itchy and that his skin looks shiny is very positive. The dandruff will go away when his skin completely makes the change to the new diet. It is actually a good sign. It will probably normalize in another couple of months. Try adding one to two teaspoons of Omega 3 Fatty acids to the food to try to speed things up. Begin very slowly and gradually increase over time. Try to find a hypoallergenic version of the omega 3 fatty acids, if possible.
Avatar n tn Hi, It could be dandruff, which sometimes does affect the armpits or dry skin. Dandruff is due to the excessive shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. As it is normal for skin cells to die and flake off, a small amount of flaking is normal and in fact quite common. Malassezia(yeast) lives on the scalps of most healthy adults without causing problems.

Because she likes some juicy food as well as the dry mix, I mix in a little fairly good quality canned meat as well, and she does love this, and it seems to suit her. Sometimes I give her a few dog biscuits, and sometimes a few pieces of apple.

Avatar m tn And, get a blood test done to see whether anemia, diabetes or hypothyroidism is the cause of hair fall. Also, rule out the possibility of dandruff as the cause. If you have dandruff (flakes of dead skin coming off the scalp) then please consult a skin specialist for proper treatment. Take care!
Avatar n tn They seem to be made out of dandruff or built up dead skin cells, but I use a specialized shampoo that keeps my scalp moisturized since I've had dandruff issues before. The bumps leak a clear fluid when I scratch them off, and, as expected of an open "wound", sting when in contact with anything external. There is no specific odor that is identifiable, and I have not been able to see one of the bumps via a photo to determine color.
Avatar f tn It's called dandruff, The white flakes are dead skin.
Avatar m tn HI, My hair is very oily and worst, even a touch can pull out more than 10-15 hairs. i am having very much hairfall. the dry scalp nad dead skin always come out as a white dandruff. Plz suggest me what to do?
Avatar m tn dry parts on my head that I can feel and scrape off which leaves dead skin cells on my finger tips, therefore I know my scalp is dry. However, head and shoulders and other anti dandruff shampoos have done nothing at all to stop the itch. The only thing that worked was last year when I got a prescription Allegra D. The antihistimine must have stopped the itching for the time being but it did not solve the problem. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Avatar n tn The patch has a rough texture in comparision of the surrounding skin. And upon rubbing the region, some layers of skin (dead skin, rough like big flakes of dandruff) also come off. I am quite worried about this. Can somebody help?
Avatar m tn If I just leave it alone most of the skin appears smooth, but in the crease on the side of my nose dead skin flakes off. Peeling rarely happens anywhere else. It use to be just on the side, and end of my nose. Now it has spread to my cheeks below my eyes, and down around the sides of my mouth and my upper lips. I had a hunch it was seborrhea but in pictures I see of that they never look as prominent, or as red.
1608004 tn?1390770990 she only eats grain free food (both wet and dry) should I be giving her something to counteract this dandruff? maybe some sardines or olive oil or something. thank you!
Avatar f tn Hello, This can be due to atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. Psoriasis is a long-term (chronic) skin problem that causes skin cells to grow too quickly, resulting in thick, white, silvery, or red patches of skin.It is thought that psoriasis occurs when the immune system overreacts, causing inflammation and flaking of skin. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
436973 tn?1217947089 The past couple of days I've noticed my cat has a lot of dandruff. she has had a little flakiness before, but this is quite a bit. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Avatar f tn Thanks to both of you for the great responses! My first fear was fleas, but we've thoroughly checked and it appears to be just a whole lot of dead skin cells/dandruff - he's never outdoors or around other animals, but my thought was he could have picked up fleas at the vet or something. But like I said, I haven't seen him scratch at all in the 2 weeks since this started. Can either of you recommend a good Omega 3 source for him?
Avatar f tn it would always be a very tiny piece of dead skin and sometimes it would be a tiny white solid really tiny. i did not lose hair or feel itchy but im scared. i always thought it was only a few red bumps it will go away , but recently, my sister was playing with my hair when she told me that i have red bumps, many many red bumps all over my scalp. i am a girl and i am embarrassed and afraid. could it be some kind of disease that could never be cured? please tell me what to do.
Avatar n tn sorry I have to disagree with aligator.....do NOT use baby lotion or oil on kitties skin.....there are too many ingredients in both of these products, kitty will lick himself and ingest all this 'stuff' thats not good for him. like Pip suggested a good regular brushing helps alot, so does adding some Omega3 to their diet.....pierce a capsule and add a small amount to their food...best to get one with the least amount of additives..or one from your Vet.
Avatar n tn You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription). If your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur.

1351676 tn?1301339436 Hello, I have just started to notice my black cat has got dandruff,. How do I treat this?
Avatar m tn Lotion of several kinds never seem to actually penetrate the outer layer of my skin, which seems completely dead and peel-able anyhow. Most exfoliates for my skin seem to be like using a spoon to do a shovel's job, but if I use anything too harsh, I end up destroying the living skin just the same (resulting in scaring in some cases). I can shower once a day, every other couple days, or several times a day. Nothing along those lines ever seems to make much difference.
Avatar f tn s T-Gel used alternately (every other day) with Head and Shoulders shampoo work well. Additionally, treating the scalp by exfoliating away dead skin cells much like on facial skin can bring relief. Finesse makes a Revitality Scalp Balm and you could probably find a scalp mask over the internet. Aveda makes Scalp Remedy, which is best used at night based on experience. These products are also okay for sensitive skin, again from experience.
Avatar m tn The dry skin problem is nothing new I have had dry skin (extreme dandruff) on scalp, beard, etc. but the problem has gotten worse lately. lately the skin under chin becomes reddish (raw) easily after shaving and burns slightly. The other major problem is that I seem to only be able to sleep when I am extremely tired (been without sleep for long time), I also get disturbed sleep, Many times I go to bed at 11 pm but only get sleep at around 4 am, I then wake up at around 1.30 pm.
Avatar n tn He was a tiny bit overweight, and at the advice of his vet, we switched him from Beneful to Natural Balance limited ingredient food in May (gradually switching over about a week and a half). Coincidence or not, he immediately started having dandruff, but he loved the food, and since he's such an extremely picky eater we stuck with it. Almost six months later, he still devours the food (He NEVER has been so good about eating as with this particular brand/flavor - sweet potato and duck.
Avatar n tn if i just dry massage my scalp then i find fine hard thing just coming out of the skin(like small dandruff hard particles), sometimes my hair falls with a white thing at the bulb.kindly tell wht these bumps are and how can they go?
