That's good to know about flax oil- I believe I saw it recommended to put on the coats of dogs on an old Lassie movie, but wasn't positive about cats. I think if I tried it on my kitty, she would likely lick it off her right away if I didn't make sure I watched her for long enough that it absorbed and did some good. I've been doing the flaxseed meal on Catalina's breakfast food and Cattie's coat is quite nice for winter!
t seem to have made much of a dent in the dandruff. Like I said, the dandruff is minimal on some days and heavier on other days with seemingly no rhyme or reason.
I've tried adding some olive oil to his food, and even rubbing some on him because I read it might help, but really when I massaged some olive oil into his skin it almost seemed to make the dandruff worse.
What do you all think? I have read they sell dog balm and dog moisturizers, which I'd never even heard of before.
My black toy poodle who is currently 2 years old got dandruff. At first it was only dandruff but now her hair is shedding. She's got bald spots over her body. We only give her dog food for her diet. I am sorry to hear about your dogs dandruff and that's usually quite simple to clear up. Add a little extra virgin olive oil to your dogs meals and/or supplement with Essential Omega-3 Fatty Acids.
You might also reduce the weekly flea baths and intermix them with organic oatmeal baths which are quite soothing. Remember for most of us, the fall season is approaching which is when dogs shed their coats to prepare for winter.
I really hope you can help me. We have a male Boston Terrier who will be 7 in July. He's had allergies in the past that caused some yeast problems on the folds of his face and ear trouble, and he seems to have grown out of them or something - in the past 2 years he's had no issues with any of that.

I have had severe itching on my head for months.My med Dr ans derm says I don't have lice.but I do have black pieces and white things fall from m y hair constantly.I've tried everything the drugstore has and meds from the derm for yeast infection.but my husband has it to.I think he caught it on a job and gave it to me.these pieces fall on my clothes,counters and poor. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky,dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. Lately, I have noticed these yellowish/brownish,waxy crusts on the crown area of my scalp. These waxy crusts attach themselves to hair follicles, and if picked at, come off with clumps of hair (sometimes 4 or 5 hairs together). These crusts do not itch or burn. Hi, I've had a rash? on the top of my scalp for a while(more than a year), not itchy, but it is dry and flakes when I scratch it. It is roughly round shaped, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and red but seems to get lighter colored or darker from time to time. Another thing I noticed is that if I do scratch it hard and hold a tissue over the area there is a clear fluid on the tissue, and if i put alcohol on the area at any time it is more sensitive than the rest of my scalp.
I recently shaved my head, I do this once every two months and I notice some round red patches that were not there before. They are completely flat, I had no hair loss in the areas and they are not itchy at all. The patches began hurting after I shaved my head. I am thinking tinea capitis but that's just a guess. The only flaking I had was general dandruff I've always had and treated with anti dandruff shampoo, this red spot is new.
And when the bottle says lather rinse repeat actually repeat. Lol. For dry scalp dandruff you canuse mayo on your hair coat scalp and hhair leave on for 15 min rinse off. Or 3tbsp olive oil one egg and I think it was a tbsp of vinegar and put that on your hair leave on for 15 and rinse. These are easy recipes you can find online.
I think this resulted in me developing serious dandruff. its been a problem for a while now. I think there is some hairloss and scalp is very dry and itchy. Everytime I run my fingers through my hand i can see flakes falling down. I plan on shaving my head and start applying some cream. Can you recommend any medicine or any remedies. I would really appreciate some help.
