277836 tn?1359666174 s terrible for the kidneys(this is the number one organ that fails in cats) and it can help form urine crystals, which can cause a urinary blockage(life threatening in male cats). Seriously, all dry food is really bad for cats. There are many members on this forum that would back me up on this AND some have/or are now dealing w/ urinary blockages from the crystals-not fun for kitty and expensive. I know you said that soft food doesn't agree w/ your cat(boots?
485351 tn?1208647497 My cat is just about a year old and she is experiencing a sudden increase in appetite, dandruff in her rump area, and a sudden loss of fur. The loss of fur is not in clumps, she just seems to be shedding a whole lot lately. She has been more inactive than usual too, almost depressed. We have not found any flea droppings or presence of worms in her stool. I've noticed lately that she can't seem to jump as high as she used to, and gives up playing earlier than before.
1608004 tn?1390770990 I noticed yesterday she seems to be having a bad case of the flakes. she has a lot of dandruff in her hair. she only eats grain free food (both wet and dry) should I be giving her something to counteract this dandruff? maybe some sardines or olive oil or something. thank you!

1786778 tn?1314987818 or a food allergy usually chicken is the biggest culprit. also grains in the food are triggers for many cats. dry food is also a huge problem, b/c of the many preservatives along with the grains of course. can you do a trial of changing her food to a non chicken GRAIN FREE canned food and see if that makes a difference. also try to eliminate as many scents as possible around your home.
Avatar f tn As I understand it, the real danger with cats is in their poop. You don't have to get rid of the cat as long as someone else is cleaning up after it. Try to stay away from the litter box as much as possible. We had 3 cats when I was pregnant with our son. My husband took care of cleaning up after them and we didn't have any issues. I'm nearly 33 weeks and we have 1 cat. My husband cleans up after her and everything is going fine.
Avatar m tn They quote an article that says cats need in their diet linoleic and arachidonic acids. Now linoleic acid is found in flax, but cats, according to this website, can't change that into arachidonic acid. Putting fish oil on sound like the smarter way to go, basing my opinion formulated from what I read, when it comes to topical, such as the kind you talk about, because it arachidonic acid in it. They do caution too much Omega 6 is not good for cats with chronic kidney disease.
Avatar f tn So, recently I noticed my cat having some white stuff in her fur. Not all over, just on her back. What is it? How can I prevent it? Should I take her to the vet? She's about 1 and a half years old.
362249 tn?1441315018 Cornish/Devon Rex cats found that in 2 seconds..they have hair not fur..so most are not allergic to.
Avatar m tn t let her outside because your other cats will want the same. Also, is her fur dry, maybe with dandruff? Is her behavior always been like this the entire three years you've had her? My apologies for so many questions but she's not in heat and I would like to help you if I can.
Avatar n tn The more exposure to light the more shedding. Cats the go outside part of the day will shed normally and grow a new coat in summer. In the fall as the days grow shorter their begins to thicken for winter. Indoor cats exposed to light may shed and grow a coat year round. When A cat with a double coat begins to shed their appearance can be alarming and at first suggest a kin disease, This is because "undercoat" is shed in a mosaic or patch pattern giving a moth eaten look.

Avatar f tn Hi. Can you tell me if your Suki or Ted are outside cats? Do vets usually put them on steroids? What gave you the idea of putting them on a fresh meat diet? It's odd..Sadie has also become very playful (when the others are not around), her fur is very soft but thin. She is a longhair, all of mine are. I used to have a dog who had itchy spots on her back and used to scratch all the time. Her skin was very dry. I started giving her an oil (orally) and her hair grew back beautifully.
Avatar f tn If you work in a house where the lady owns cats, and now you are itching, you could be. It could also be an allergy to something else that you are exposed to in her house (for example, if doing cleaning, maybe you are allergic to the cleaning product used in that location but nowhere else, or if you were a painter and using a specific product in her house that you don't use elsewhere, it might be the product). Cats have saliva that gives some people a strong allergic reaction.
691935 tn?1421027090 I gave 4 cats - all inside cats. Two of my cats (7 yrs) are brother & sister. I picked them up as kittens from a shelter so they are mixed breed. They have long fur that mats very easy. I bath them and brush them with very little success. I have never seen fur like these two. I actually shave both of them from time to time to remove the matts because they get so bad. Does anyone know of anything I can do to remove matts short of cutting and shaving the fur.
675347 tn?1365460645 ) It does seem to be more like dead skin-cells She also is not inclined to lick her fur, except the hair-free parts of her belly, (and dog-bits!) When I rub my hands in her fur for a while, shaking loose hairs and dandruff, my hands come away slightly white, with a slightly waxy film on them. She smells very clean, and seems to keep naturally clean, and because I didn't want to get rid of her natural oils I haven't bathed her for quite a while.
548408 tn?1214692039 the bunny could have mange an infestation of fur mites, which can cause a rabbit's skin to become itchy, with white particles like dandruff appearing in its fur. In some cases, the rabbit will lose its fur in areas of heavy infestation. Also called walking dandruff.
Avatar n tn She has always had a slight dandruff problem, but now it is really bad. It also looks like her fur is clumping together. Any & all advice would greatly be appreciated!
Avatar n tn Could the skinniness and/or pokey out hips be related to the pulling out fur? All the cats eat and drink normally. Cicero is still above normal weight, but I think he just developed the problem. I heard that excessive cleaning could be from fleas. They don't get treated for fleas, but they don't scratch like animal with fleas do, so I really don't think that is the problem. They are all indoor/outdoor cats, but stay mostly in my back yard. Thanks for your help!
Avatar n tn Hi everyone. I have a cat named Loco. He is an indoor/outdoor cat. He's about 3 years old. He's never had any health problems before. Lately, I think he's been very itchy. I THINK that's what it is. He'll be laying down, as he always does, then out of nowhere he'll start licking himself pretty violently. He then runs crazily aroud the house, licking himself. It's so bad, he jumps onto tables and knocks everything down.
228686 tn?1211554707 Resolve to brush cats non-stop to prove that cats are really made of loose fur...and if brushed long enough, they WILL disappear (the "How many licks to the center of a tootsie roll pop?" Hypothesis). D: Do "C" and use the large quantity of loose, brushed out fur to build one giant SUPER CAT with which I plan to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!! Sooooo... which do you think would be the appropriate New Year's Resolution for a Savas to make?
Avatar f tn Could he have an allergy to an ingredient in the new food? You have to be very careful when changing a cats diet. You need to slowly introduce the new foods along with the foods that they are used to. I made that mistake with one of our cats and she ended up with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and unfortunately she passed away from it. It does sound like an allergy problem. Although some animals will pull out their fur when they are stressed out.
Avatar f tn I want to be able to put a pack n play or niether a bouncer to put it the living room but i dont want my two cats to destroy the baby things or have fur in/or in the playpin..wat do u all do about ur animals?
1409507 tn?1281917406 I have 2 cats. Took in, wild. Luv em. But their hair in my face makes me cough. litter is worse. Pouring fresh litter, i have to turn on bathrm vent & try to hold my breath so I don't cough cough cough cough. Still, I cough, cough. Any suggestions...other than "get rid of the cats"?
Avatar f tn Make sure your cat is on a good monthly flea preventative such as Advantage or Revolution. In older cats, fur pulling can also be a symptom of an underlying internal disorder, such as hyperthyroidism, spinal arthritis/pain, kidney pain, etc. so if he has not had his yearly geriatric bloodwork recently then now would be a good time.
535822 tn?1443976780 Its like a wad of hair stuck together. Different cats get them in differing amounts. Once in a while it is probably normal, too much and you can get medicine from a vet for them.
