dandruff

Avatar n tn Hi there, The common causes of scalp sores are dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, acne and eczema. Since scalp sores are caused by numerous conditions it is difficult to determine the correct treatment without a complete clinical examination. Low Levels of Zinc in the scalp, clogged and bacteria filled hair follicles, very low circulation levels, too high pH level in the delicate scalp skin are few predisposing factors for scalp sores.
Avatar m tn For almost a year now around my scalp has been feeling gummy and greasy. I don't dye my hair, or take medication. I eat healthy and work out often. I asked my dermotolgist he did not know. I have tried numerous shampoo's. Sulfate free ect. Washing my hair with Listerine. Nothing seems to do the trick. I tried putting color in it, and cutting it and that didn't help. I AM SO FRUSTRATED and desperate! Please let me know any solutions to fix it for once and for all!!! Please!!!!
Avatar f tn Hi, wondering if anyone has an answer for me. I used to get dandruff on and off and I used head & shoulders or others like it and it worked fine. This winter, however, my scalp has gotten extremly dry and itchy and flaky, and sore from all the scratching. I tried a bunch of more heavy duty OTC shampoos for dandruff, but none worked. I used an essential oils scalp massage and that worked for a bit. Now it is out of control and driving me crazy.
Avatar n tn You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription). If your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur.

Avatar n tn she is old and beautiful and sweet but she seems to have a bit of dandruff. does anyone know what causes this and how to stop it?
Avatar f tn m going off of what I vaguely remember lol. There are 3 causes for dandruff dry scalp, oily scalp, and a fungus. The condition of your scalp is what is going to tell u which treatment to use. One remedy is ad easy as shampooing everyday and using less conditioner on your scalp. You should also try using a clarifying shampoo and a moisturizing conditioner.

436973 tn?1217947089 There are also some parasitic skin disorders such as Cheyletiella (known as “walking dandruff”) that can cause the coat to appear flaky and dry. This problem is more common during the winter when the air becomes drier than normal. Other than that, a good source of Omega-3 fatty acid will certainly help you. I wanted, however, to talk to you about this particular subject: Omega-3.
Avatar f tn I started off with an itchy scalp about 4-5 weeks ago - i then noticed i had some dandruff - i wasn't too concerned intil i found myself itching quite a lot - ive had dandruff before and it generally goes soon enough and doesn't cause too much itching. Anyway i started to become paranoid thinking i had lice - as my cousins were visiting i thought perhaps i had got lice from one of them. However nobody was itching but me.
Avatar f tn For as far back as I can remember I've had horrible dandruff. In 2nd grade, I was so embarrassed because during a regular lice check at school, the school nurse made a nasty comment about my "cakes of dandruff." And coinciding with this dandruff is a horrible, almost unbearable itch.

Avatar f tn I also think PATM comes from the scalp, well dandruff. Use head and shoulders and scrub every spot on your hair for a few minutes. Then rinse all of it off. I think showering a few hours before you go to sleep is the best option. When you shower and then go to sleep, your hair is still wet. Mold starts in wet places.
890634 tn?1241186679 I am limited in products that I can use because my Celiac Disease causes me to react to topical products that contain gluten, which is in most products for dandruff shampoo. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar n tn If so, you might research dermatologists and find one with schooling at a well-respected school and plenty of experience and see if that person concurs with the previous two. You might even request a biopsy (rarely done) to try to eliminate other possible causes and to try to learn what type of psoriasis you have. Here is an article which lists treatments for psoriasis: http://www.mayoclinic.
