dandruff cats

My 7 yr old female cat has developed what appears to be dandruff thick skin flakes that slough off. Is this a cat's allergy or a dietary problem?

Dandruff is just the shedding of dead skin cells to expose new cells and is not only normal but necessary. If the shedding is excessive, it may indicate a prior buildup of dead cells that were not properly shed. I agree with others that shampooing is not beneficial and dries out the skin. Frequent light brushing is far better for removing dead cells as well as stimulating oil production.

The past couple of days I've noticed my cat has a lot of dandruff. she has had a little flakiness before, but this is quite a bit. Is this something I should be concerned about?

All you need to do is go to your local pet store and buy a special shampoo for cats for dandruff, itchiness, and dry skin. And, you can buy some salmon oil or omega 3 oil for cats and give her a half teaspoon a day in her food. This should really help a lot. I have done it myself and my cat looks great!

She came in wet and I ot a towel to dry her, I noticed many white bits on her fur, got the wire brush and brushed her, it looks like dandruff do, cats get that ,its not flea eggs as when I looked through the magnifying glass you can se its like of flaky bits.. What can I do about it, are there dandruff shampoos .She's not been bathed as she hates water .Any ideas .

My grandma has two female cats that are about 2 years old. The one cat has been losing hair around her front legs and back legs. Has anyone seen this kind of problem before?

Our other cat is not experiencing any of the other symptoms except the dandruff near the tail. They are both entirely indoor cats, never left the home unless to visit the vet, so I'm puzzled as to their aquisition of a parasite, if that is the case. I work at home and give them a lot of attention. Any ideas on what may be causing this? We live far from the vet, so another agonizing car ride would be best avoided if at all possible. Yes I want to know the same thing. Because that was the first question the doc asked me on my first visit, I think it's the dandruff from the cats though. Idk I could be wrong, even though I don't have any cats.

I never heard of it being an issue. I researched cat dangers during pregnancy a long time ago & don't recall hair/dandruff being a concern. I have heard some cats like to snuggle babies and end up suffocating them on accident, but as long as you don't let the cat near the baby while sleeping (keep the door closed) it should be okay. We had to lock our bedroom door because one of our cats (the one we still have) knows how to open doors.

She really only sticks her back side up when being stroked down her back. What kind of allergy do you mean? Both cats have some dandruff when being brushed.

m working, the lymph node seems to shrink down a lot but when I go back home, later on I feel it enlarged again. Can this be due to allergies? I am allergic to dandruff from cats and dogs and I have 3 cats and 1 dog. I aslo haven't been sick recently. I actually haven't been sick in years. I believe I have a strong immune system.

Cornish/Devon Rex cats found that in 2 seconds..they have hair not fur..so most are not allergic to.

Lately i have noticed i have dandruff, i heard of shampoo that gets rid of it, does anyone know any kind of shampoo or other thing that does, i have tried showering even More often then i do, which is alot, and it still doesnt go away, i want to get rid of it soon, only got it about a week ago. Ive always suffered from dandruff and so i used T-gel and capisal anti-dandfuff shampoos, but when i got pregnant my doc told me not to use them because of coal tar and so i stopped, it also says on the back of the bottle not reccomended during pregnancy, its been 9 weeks and my head is soo itchy its driving me mad :( .. Anyone know any good natural ways to get rid of it?

He suffers from constant dandruff regardless of what shampoos are used. We have been to many dermatologist for prescription shampoos with no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I think this resulted in me developing serious dandruff. its been a problem for a while now. I think there is some hairloss and scalp is very dry and itchy. Everytime I run my fingers through my hand i can see flakes falling down. I plan on shaving my head and start applying some cream. Can you recommend any medicine or any remedies. I have been suffering from dandruff for more than 10 years. I have tried Nizoral, coal tar, head and shoulder, selsum blue etc but nothing seems to help. Especially in 3 area in my head near the centre, I big circle of dandruff forming. They can be almost the size of dime. Its thicken , raised flaky transparent skin layer with dots. I have been noticing this for atleast 4 years now. I scratch and take it out but it rebuilds in just couple of day in the excact location.

No matter what i do, for the past 9 years i have had what i thought was severe dandruff. however, i have tried every single anti-dandruff solution they sell and most just make my head more itchy. its weird cuz my scalp comes off in larger chunks than i thought dandruff was. it is also slightly yellower. it is constant, i never have a break from it. its super embarassing too, because i cannot resist to itch it and once i start to scratch i can't stop for like 2 or 3 minutes.

t seem to have made much of a dent in the dandruff. Like I said, the dandruff is minimal on some days and heavier on other days with seemingly no rhyme or reason. I've tried adding some olive oil to his food, and even rubbing some on him because I read it might help, but really when I massaged some olive oil into his skin it almost seemed to make the dandruff worse. What do you all think? I have read they sell dog balm and dog moisturizers, which I'd never even heard of before.

Im 13 (going to be 14 in 2months if that makes any sense) and im having dandruff for almost a year. I have tryed a lot of shampoos that say im going to get rid of dandruff but that doesnt help.
