Avatar n tn If so, you might research dermatologists and find one with schooling at a well-respected school and plenty of experience and see if that person concurs with the previous two. You might even request a biopsy (rarely done) to try to eliminate other possible causes and to try to learn what type of psoriasis you have. Here is an article which lists treatments for psoriasis: http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar n tn Psoriasis of the scalp and dandruff are very common. The best thing I've ever heard of to combat it is the tar shampoos. T-Gel is a name brand and there are lots of knock off's with the same ingredients. This is what dermatologists recommend.

Avatar f tn I will take a look at TGEL. I think I saw it at Target that's near my home. But, I wonder if TGeL will help with psoriasis. My problem is a little worse than an itch. I can't really is a good look at my own scalp, but I'm pretty sure it's psoriasis. Recently, had a flare-up on my neck that was controlled with some ointment from a dermatologist. My scalp seems to have very thin layer of something in patches.
Avatar n tn Differentials for the skin condition will be seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis , a fungal infection and dermatitis. I do not want to cause unnecessary worrying here. What I have posted are only differentials. These are conditions that may likely explain your symptoms. Seborrheic dermatitis may present as greasy scales over the scalp, chest and armpits. We commonly refer to these flakes as dandruff.
Avatar f tn hi and welcome. Something is causing the dandruff and it might be psoriasis or excema, at this point it would be best to see a dermatoligist to make sure its not the average run of the mill dandruff.
Avatar m tn com/skin-problems-and-treatments/psoriasis/scalp-psoriasis They also have topicals you can put on it and things that will make it peel. They sometimes use UV light treatment but this is a lot harder on the scalp if you have hair. A dermatologist has things they can prescribe. My son doesn't have psoriasis but another fungal issue. He uses a special shampoo that controls it.

1738109 tn?1331412572 Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes you to itch and have dandruff. I have spalp psoriasis so its only in my hair and sones times my eyebrows. It can be aggravated by stress. Another kind is called plaque psoriasis. This is red flaky patches all over the body. I have a friend with that one. She's miserable when she gets an outbreak. Oh and it's not contagious but it can be genetic for either kind.

Avatar n tn You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar n tn Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription). If your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur.
Avatar f tn For as far back as I can remember I've had horrible dandruff. In 2nd grade, I was so embarrassed because during a regular lice check at school, the school nurse made a nasty comment about my "cakes of dandruff." And coinciding with this dandruff is a horrible, almost unbearable itch.
Avatar n tn For the last year or so, I've had some pretty mean dandruff. Head and Shoulders does absolutely nothing for it. It's gotten a lot worse over the last few months, so I went to my dermatologist to get it checked out. She seemed pretty sure that I have scalp psoriasis, even though I don't have psoriasis anywhere else on my body. I should mention that I hadn't washed my hair for a few days, so it probably looked particularly bad that day. She prescribed Clobex shampoo (.
Avatar f tn Hello, This can be due to atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. Psoriasis is a long-term (chronic) skin problem that causes skin cells to grow too quickly, resulting in thick, white, silvery, or red patches of skin.It is thought that psoriasis occurs when the immune system overreacts, causing inflammation and flaking of skin. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar m tn I've always had issues with Dry Scalp and Dandruff, particularly during the winter. Over the past couple years, I've also developed some sort of scalp sores that when picked at tend to bleed. They seem to continually come back. I've tried a number of shampoos - Head and Shoulders, Nizoral, Aveda Pureformance, T/Gel, American Crew, etc. with varying results.
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff and tinea capitis need to be ruled out. The symptoms of Ringworm or Tinea Capitis include a dry itchy scalp, scaling, crusting, inflamed nodules, hair loss and tender enlarged lymph nodes on the neck. Because of the scratching that is involved with the condition it can become secondarily infected with a bacterial infection. Diagnosis is by clinical examination of the scalp as well as a skin lesion biopsy with microscopic examination.
Avatar m tn Also i used a scalp shampoo for some symptoms like psoriasis etc, and it made my hair feel sticky and i don't think i have those symptoms.

Avatar n tn You might have seborrheic dermatitis on your scalp. I have it and if i don't shampoo my hair daily my head itches and gets alot of flakes. My derm suggested that I buy a shampoo containing ketoconazole. I use Nizoral, It doesn't clean very well but seems to deal with the flaking fairly well.
Avatar n tn It started about 3 years ago and then went away and came back last year and never cleared up. When I do itch my head, I have these big clumps of scabs that come off with it. I have tried T-gel shampoo and nothing is helping. Can you suggest anything? I have also put neosporin on them.
Avatar f tn It's not lice, it's not dandruff, tried listening to advices, they still are growing. My head becomes really itchy and I can't focus in school because of it! I also saw there's dried blood on some of them. It keeps popping out even when I just got out of the shower. Please help! Sorry for bad English.
