Avatar n tn Male or female pattern baldness may follow a hereditary pattern. Treatment of the tinea and seborrheic dermatitis may help resolve the hair loss. Creams may not be sufficient for scalp infections. You may need oral antifungal therapy. But first a microscopic evaluation of the scalp scrapings may be done to ascertain the diagnosis.
Avatar m tn My hair has been falling out rapidly for the past year, I've had dandruff my whole life and nothing has cured it. I'm a 22 year old male and have no family history of male pattern baldness, in fact the men in my family all have extremely thick black hair, including my grandfathers. but i found these red sores on my scalp, what do you think it is? Seborrhoeic Dermatitis ?
Avatar m tn I also have lots of dandruff from wearing a hat. can dandruff cause temporary hair loss? and is head and shoulders shampoo good or bad for the hair.
Avatar m tn usually means male-pattern baldness, or permanent-pattern baldness. Male-pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair loss in men. Men who have this type of hair loss usually have inherited the trait. Men who start losing their hair at an early age tend to develop more extensive baldness. In male-pattern baldness, hair loss typically results in a receding hair line and baldness on the top of the head. Some medicines can cause hair loss.
Avatar m tn I will thank you doctor, I am not sure if i have male pattern baldness, My hairline has receded along the temples, is this mpb?
Avatar m tn how does one tell the diffeence between male pattern baldness and that of thyroiditis resulting in hyperthyroidism?
Avatar n tn Wow, I have the same problem you have right down to the family history. No male-pattern baldness in the family, Dad losing his hair in his 60s, history of very thick hair. I've been losing hair for around 6 years now too and I'm 20, with very noticeable thinning. Dandruff, itching, everything. Hopefully someone posts on this with a clue as to what's happening.
646318 tn?1261181494 In my case, I've had HCV for 30+ years. My hair has always been thick - not course but lots of it. Sadly, now in my 29th wk of tx, I've probably lost 1/3 of it. I started out with long hair and it's really short now. Seems to appear fuller with the length cut off. Someone may have experienced hair loss prior to tx but I did not so can't comment on that. What about male pattern baldness? Does you family have a history of early hair loss? Any relatives bald or balding?
Avatar m tn So my question is whether or not my problem is due to telogen effluvium or could it be male pattern baldness? and why is only one of my eyebrows becoming so flaky and thinning quicker than the other?
Avatar m tn I noticed this bald spot after using a hair thickening oil, after using that oil I noticed that I was losing patches of hair. So i am discontinuing that oil now. Avatar m tn Please check your MedHelp inbox. I sent you information that may be helpful to you. I do recommend that you work with a physician because, although these formulas are natural.... they can make you have herxing symptoms. The Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction is due to organisms (particularly bacteria) dying off and when they are dying off, they release toxins in your body and so your symptoms are worse. Basically, you are detoxing. There are ways to handle the detoxing....
Avatar m tn Hello, From the pattern of baldness like it being hereditary, it sounds like male pattern baldness. Androgenic alopecia is a common form of hair loss and typically occurs in M shaped pattern. Men who have this type of hair loss usually have inherited the trait. Other causes may be use of some drugs, infections and underlying disease, such as lupus or diabetes. A biopsy (taking a small sample of cells to examine under a microscope) of your scalp may be needed to establish the correct diagnosis.
Avatar n tn Most men are genetically predisposed to male pattern baldness. It is the effect of hormones on the hair follicle that produces male pattern baldness. Testosterone, a hormone that is present in high levels in males after puberty, is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. DHT has an adverse affect on the hair follicles.
Avatar m tn Was your hair loss 20 years ago and the reason for transplant due to hair loss associated with thyroid dysfunction or male pattern baldness? If the latter, and if your thyroid medication is adequate, what you are currently experiencing may be due to male pattern baldness. Have you asked your doctor about this?
Avatar n tn t that great and are VERY costly. Shave your head down and get use to your new look and enjoy it!! It will grow on you and sooner than later you will be very happy with what you have, I mean don't have, haha. Sorry, just teasing but don't be too stressed out over this!! Genetics has a lot to do with it and you can't look at your grandfather's on your mother's side blah blah blah. Means nothing. Don't try to figure it out.
Avatar m tn Hello, It can be due to alopecia aertea but in males androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness is an important cause to be ruled out for baldness in the middle of the head. It is mainly genetic but sometimes hormonal imbalance like overproduction of dihydrotestosterone and thyroid hormones irregularities also play an important role. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar m tn Ugh, I'm very sorry. Male pattern baldness is indeed often hereditary. What about some of the hair growth products like 'rogaine'. Have you tried any of those?
Avatar m tn Hello, From these symptoms it is less likely to be telogen effluvium and can be male pattern baldness. Male pattern baldness is usually an inherited trait and men start lossing hair at an early age leading to extensive baldnesss. Since the nutritional deficiency is also a common cause of hairloss, patient is required to take food rich in protien, vitamins(mainly vit A and vit C) and other micronutrient like zinc, iron and copper.
