So I've been having this yellow tube-like things sticking to strands of my hair. My hair is pretty long and very very thick. I think it's head lice, but I NEVER feel the little lice crawling in there, my mom checks my hair on a daily basis very frequently and she sees nothing. I do have dandruff every once in a while though. I admit they do look like head lice nits, but I'm not sure. I think it may be head lice and I'm getting some treatment shampoo tomorrow and trying it.
I am the same age suffering similar symptoms, I don't have flaking and have not had any head lice...I have always had healthy hair and now it seems more coarse, I have naturally quite straight hair, I use straightners maybe twice a month - very briefly. I don't blow dry it- just towel dry & occasionally blast it off with hair dryer. My scalp is sore, no lesions, washing my hair entails clumps falling out so I do this twice a week to avoid it!
I know it isn't dandruff or head lice. I've had my scalp checked several times. It didn't start itching until I was told I had RA a year and a half ago. That's the thing I know. Thanks for your help anyway.
My four year old has been scratching her head (all over her scalp) for a few weeks now. At first I thought it might be lice, but I inspect her hair every few days and haven't seen any nits or lice. As an infant she had eczema, so I thought maybe it was that, but she doesn't have any redness or bumps on her scalp. I don't think it's dandruff because thereare no flakes. We wash her hair every night in the shower with kids shampoo and use regular adult conditioner.

I have a history of OCD, and I have lately developed an intense fear of contracting something (like diseases or colds). Recently my scalp has been quite itchy, and the back of my neck and ears are red, but I have no flaky dandruff. My father believes that it is an allergic reaction to something that I ate, but I eat the exact same thing every day, so I have ruled that out...
I have jumped to the conclusion that I have lice.
My scalp feels more dry than oily and the dandruff flakes are small and white and do remove from my head when i scratch - reassuring me they arent lice eggs.
If you had head lice, you sometimes would find a little bug, but also would see white sugar looking grains on your hair near the scalp. These are called nits - these are the eggs of the head lice.
The flaky skin that you have coming down and falling on to your clothes, like Jessjess2014 says is called dandruff.
This can sometimes be caused by a fungal infection on the head. To treat this you would need a shampoo that also has antifungal properties.

my head has been itching for a couple months now, and sometimes its tender to hot water, i recently found little bites or something on my neck. i have had it checked for lice several times and it is not lice... i don't know what it may be or how to fix it. i have changed my shampoo, didn't work, if i don't take a shower the very next morning it itches very bad.. when i do wash it , it still itches but not as bad...what do i do? how do i fix it? and most important, WHAT IS IT?
At first, I taught it was lice and I applied lice shampoo to both of our heads. That did not work, so next I tried apple cider vinegar, natural drandruff shampoo, head n shulders,, expensive shampoo from the salon, I don't know what else to do. Our heads itch all the time. It looks like we have dandruff all thru our heads, alot!!!!!
t coming out like dandruff. I tried to pull them off and they were somewhat stuck to the hair shaft like a lice nit. I had four people check my hair, including my doctor, and no bugs were found. I never experienced itching either.
Fast forward seven years, and I still notice them sometimes. No, I have not had head lice for seven years. I regularly get my hair done and my stylist would have noticed it 50 times by now. Plus, my husband would have had them for seven years too.
I am going crazy with itchiness!
It's the worst on the back of my head, beginning where the hair is growing from my neck, and continuing up my scalp for about 10cm. It looks to be in roughly the same place that sufferers of head lice experience the worst itching, but I'm sure it isn't lice. There aren't any nits or anything even similar to them.
If I scratch this itchiest area, I get tiny dry white flakes no bigger than a millimeter wide at the very most.
I've always dealt with dandruff in the winter, but I can't tell if the little white things in my hair are flakes or nits. I did the lice treatment, but nothing showed up when my hair was combed out. I have painful slightly itchy bumps and pimples on my scalp. I'm not insanely itchy, but I know you don't have to be super itchy to have lice. I don't know what else it would be if it's not lice, maybe the treatment didn't work. If it's not lice what is it?

The symptoms can be due to dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis or lice. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription).
It's not lice, it's not dandruff, tried listening to advices, they still are growing. My head becomes really itchy and I can't focus in school because of it! I also saw there's dried blood on some of them. It keeps popping out even when I just got out of the shower. Please help! Sorry for bad English. English is not my very first language, but I hope you can still understand what I'm saying.
I use a tea tree shampoo everyday to prevent lice when I worked in childcare and because it helps with dandruff. I used olive oil lotion (in hair care aisle) and put it in all day under a shower cap. End of the day washed it out and had hubby comb my hair with a lice comb. I got it from my nieces when they stayed over one night in my first trimester.
The last few weeks my scalp his been itching something awful, it is centered around the crown. I don't have dandruff and dandruff shampoo makes it worse. I have taken to washing my hair once a week because it itches so badly. The itching is making my head hurt. Please help.
