Avatar n tn Please consult a hematologist if iron deficiency is detected. Hair loss can also be due to dandruff, dermatitis, shampoos, oils, soaps, dust and dirt etc. Thyroid disorders and diabetes too could be a cause. Insomnia, stress and anxiety along with poor diet and excess of caffeine too can be the cause. Yes, increased bilirubin can cause hair loss.
Avatar n tn hello I had a tender spot on my scalp and hair lorr that I noticed about a month ago and now it has spread. what could that be???
Avatar f tn I'm a 58 year old female and my hair has rapidly been thinning over the past 2 months. My family doctor thinks that stress is the culprit. The nape of my neck is also very itchy with some dry, red patches. I'm becoming depressed because of this situation. Am I doomed to be one of those ladies with see through hair??
Avatar n tn I am a 24 year old woman who has long, thick brown hair. People always tell me how beautiful my hair is and comment on how silky, shiny, and thick it is. All my life I've been able to run my hands through it! About two months ago, the texture of my hair has changed and is more coarse like and is falling out. Now, when I run my hands through my hair, at least 3 to 10 hairs will come out.
Avatar m tn my mom is an old time RN and her old time Dr said thyroid can cause thinning of the eyebrows and hair loss so i would look into a blood test for vitamin defeciency or hormone hope you get some answers
Avatar m tn Then my eyebrows started thinning the same way my hair did. Now i can visibly see hair falling out all over my scalp but the thing that worries me the most is the hair falling from my eyebrows. My scalp flakes a lot and it always produces these little hard keratinized bulbs when the hair falls our.Other symptoms include eyelash fall, styes on my eyes, small pimples on my face, changes in my skin, itchy forehad, bleeding scalp, and beaus lines on my nails, along with minor pitting.
Avatar m tn Right now, i have these red patches around nose, around my hairline and my collarbone. The ones at my hairline and collarbone are itchy. and Sometimes i feel itching sensation on random parts of body but no rashes. I also have dandruff, it's been 7/8 years with it, I use zinc pyrothine shampoo but it's temporary solution. My hair have been thinning, only recently it had me worrying when i saw bald patches around my hairline.
Avatar n tn Wow, I have the same problem you have right down to the family history. No male-pattern baldness in the family, Dad losing his hair in his 60s, history of very thick hair. I've been losing hair for around 6 years now too and I'm 20, with very noticeable thinning. Dandruff, itching, everything. Hopefully someone posts on this with a clue as to what's happening.
Avatar n tn shoulders shampoo and salicylic acid shampoo and Ketokenazole 2% for the dandruff and that they did not know what was wrong with me. All these shampoos just made my hair fall out more and gave me more dandruff. So yet again I went to a different dermatologist, who said that I was experiencing the hair loss because of the dandruff/seborrhea. Which does not make sense, since I was experiencing hair loss 1 year prior to when the dandruff started (due to use of prescribed shampoos).
Avatar m tn I had gone into the DR regarding thinning of my hair, excessive dandruff and dry skin / folliculitis on many parts of my body. Could all these symptoms be related to EBV? I hadn't seen anyone else discussing dandruff or folliculitis on this forum so maybe it isn't related to the EBV at all. I also have some tingling in my feet/hands which it appears is pretty common with EBV. Thanks in advance, a very helpful forum!

Insomnia, stress and anxiety along with poor diet and excess of caffeine too can be the cause. Please consult your PCP for primary examination. Take care!
Avatar n tn Now more and more hair is coming out and my hair is thinning, noticeably in the front. I talked to my gyno, who said valtrex is not the problem, she has patients on valtrex that do not have that symptom. She advised to see a dermatologist. She told me its the stress I have from everyday life. I have also stopped working out since Septembere as well, not enough time to do. Please help because I have seen blogs where some people have also had the same complaint.
Avatar n tn Hi, It has been ~ 10 weeks that I have had a very itchy scalp which has red patches, inflammation and has pustules. Since my symptoms began, I noticed that my hair has began to thin on my scalp. One doctor diagnosed me to have contact dermatitis and the second seborrheic dematitis. They said to use nizoral shampoo and advantan/betnovate. However,I don't have a scaly scalp/dandruff and haven't come into contact with a contaminant. The medications don't seem to have made a difference.
Avatar n tn Hi, In your case, I would say that if seborrheic dermatitis is present it may contribute to the hair loss but it is of course possible that the hair loss and dandruff are separate conditions. Male pattern baldness if baldness runs in the family may be considered here. But a presence of a scalp condition like seborrheic dermatitis or other fungal infections may cause some degree of hair loss.
Avatar f tn my front hairline and on the top/crown only. My scalp in these areas becomes: very oily, appears pink in color and itches uncontrollably at times. The hair that falls out is always from these areas as well and contain a small sebum plug on the hair follicle. Other times where the area itches I find yellowish sebum plugs right where it itches. I also have several rud bumps on my scalp in this same area as well. What is going on and how do I stop it?
Avatar f tn My 16year old son took doxy for approximately three months and has had substantial hair thinning. Please tell me this is not permanent and his hair will grow back!

Avatar f tn Now on a strict Diet and excersise my hair is also thinning and a lot of dandruff. I would like to start taking follic acid to start preparing me and i heard it helps ur hair grow back what type of follic acid is good to take.
Avatar m tn In stressful situation, the hair stops growing and lies dormant. This hair falls off after 2 or 3 months. The hair root then re-grows into a new hair by 6 to 9 months. The other type of hair loss is called alopecia areata. The hair fall out in patches or may involve the whole scalp. Though sometimes they grow back on their own, this type of hair loss usually requires treatment.
Avatar m tn These past few months i have realised that my hair has become alot thinner than it used to be.i am really quite worried because every time I wash my hair, at least about 20 hairs fall out. (I wash my hair every 2 days) not only this, my hair always feels really dry and very itchy, it sometimes even stings a bit. even when input conditioner in my hair it is still dry and itchy. Although my hair is dry I don't usually see any dandruff.
Avatar f tn It can cause malnutrition and therefore cause hair loss, and also autoimmune disorders, including those that cause hair loss. The dandruff and scabs suggest Celiac. You can try Nizoral shampoo, Dove shampoos, Loreal Vive shampoo, and/or Neutrogena shampoos. All have been helpful for me. If your scalp is extremely oily, you can control that just by doing a vinegar-water rinse at the end.
Avatar f tn I'm 25 weeks and I've noticed that I have very bad dandruff. I hate it and it really bothers me. Has this happened to anyone else and if so what helped?
Avatar m tn I do not have holes in head and my dermatologist says that i have not ALOPECIA but I want to do something to make my hair stronger and more dense . So i read X5 hair laser and i think that could be ideal for me . I'm not pretend regrowth (cause i haven't this problem yet ) , only that my hair become more dense and thick . So i Have three question for us : 1) The terapy of acne set by my dermatologist is correct for you ??? 2) X5 hair laser can solve my problem of hair ???
Avatar f tn You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. But if your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur. If the symptoms persist, then it would be best to get it confirmed from a dermatologist. Eat a healthy diet.
