Avatar m tn It also provided only 86% of its listed 5,000 IU of vitamin A. A daily serving contained 1,346 IU instead of 2,500 IU vitamin A from retinol, while from beta-carotene it provided more vitamin A than listed: 2,942 IU instead of 2,500 IU. Country Life Maxi-Sorb Max for Men contained only 27% of its claimed vitamin A. This is even less than the amount ConsumerLab.com found in this product in 2011, which was 64% -- although the product tested then was in capsule form.
Avatar f tn After reading this forum I started taking 10,000 IU - 12,000 IU per day of over the counter D3. After six weeks, I feel marked improvement. I can sleep for 6-7 hours, my anxiety level is low, for 4 days in a week I feel 80% normal and 3 days in a week 50% normal. The days I feel well seem to be slowly going up. I am taking mult-Vit Centrum 50 plus in addition to D3. In addition, I have blood pressure medication.

Avatar m tn You can take this, however, recommend you choose a multi-vitamin that has the vitamins and minerals closer to the recommended daily levels. For your age any multi-vitamin with iron is fine. We should be getting all our vitamins and minerals from our food sources.
Avatar m tn Wilfrid Shute and Evan Shute recommended doses from 400 IU to 8,000 IU of vitamin E daily. The usual dose range was 800 to 1600 IU but they report that they had given 8,000 IU without seeing any toxicity." The Shutes successfully treated over 35,000 patients with vitamin E. All the recent, much touted JAMA study does is confirm what we already know: low doses do not work. The doses given were 400 IU of vitamin E every OTHER day and 500 milligrams of vitamin C/day.
Avatar f tn Thank you very much for both of your responses. This is helpful. I talked to my neurologist and he recommends 2000 IU daily, until I'm at a normal Vit D level. Does anyone know about fish oil? I heard fish oil is suppose to be good for you too. What is a standard dose? It seems like 1000mg is pretty common. L.H.
Avatar n tn During the first six months of life, infants should not get more than 1,000 IU of vitamin D daily, while the daily dosage of vitamin D for infants up to 12 months old should not exceed 1,500 IU. The tolerable upper intake level for vitamin D for toddlers younger than 4 years old and young children between 4 and 8 years old are 2,500 IU and 3,000 IU, respectively. Anyone age 9 or older should not get more than 4,000 IU of vitamin D in a day. Read more: http://www.livestrong.

Avatar n tn But, after testing low in vitamin D, and subsequently supplementing with D, my TSH increased and I began having symptoms of hypothyroidism. I might add that the vitamins were taken at opposite times of the day from the thyroid meds. My Synthroid was raised to 75 mcg and 10 mcg of Cytomel to accommodate the increasing TSH. However, I got symptoms of overstimulation. I stopped the vitamins and became somewhat hyperthyroid on the increased dose. I am now back on 62.
1528307 tn?1336000554 t gotten hard copy yet) Recommended I take 4,000 IU daily. I have started taking Vitamins to help with energy and meeting daily needs.
318582 tn?1248118551 I take a generic equivalent to Centrum Silver; I get them from Sam’s club; they’re called ‘Mature Multi’ from ‘Member’s Mark’; no iron, and they cost about $U.S.12.00 per 400 count bottle. They do contain 50 IU vitamin E; I’m still alive, though :o). I'm late stage 3/early stage 4.
Avatar n tn Some vitamins will interfere w/ thyroid hormone absorption -- take the vitamins at a separate time of day to minimize this effect (ie at night). The 4 hours you had been allowing is usually adequate though...
1532707 tn?1312155924 I do take it. When my attack began (end of May this year), my D level was pretty low: 25. The nurse practitioner I saw at the time had me take 50,000 IU weekly for three months. After that, my neuro said to take 2,000 IU daily. Not that we should consider her word the gospel truth, trust me. But I think most doctors recommend 1,000-2,000 IU daily.
Avatar f tn Your body can make about 50,000 IU worth in 15 mins of unprotected sun exposure. Craig takes 5,000 IU daily and his level is still within the normal old limits. So yes, I think vit D cannot hurt, along with some calcium. The magnesium can help with muscle spasms in a normal healthy person. In MS I believe they may help a little, but spasms are caused by the brain sending wrong messages to the nerves and muscles, so the mag helps a little bit but not as much as in a healthy person.
5572863 tn?1395619413 Since adult Human skin can generate about 20 000 IU in about 25 to 30 mins in the summer sun between 10am and 3pm, you can easily supplement with up to 20 000 IU daily (more is fine, but 10 000 to 20 000 IU daily is enough to get you in an acceptable range after about 3 months, and with another 3 months or less into an 'excellent range'). I agree with recommendation about ingesting Vitamin C, but not as buffered calcium or magnesium ascorbate.
732206 tn?1237293122 If you still want to breast feed, suggest just taking multi-vitamins with 100% recommended doses of vitamins and minerals.
Avatar m tn The magnesium is taken with the Vitamin D3 to help regulate calcium. I don't know if he's able to take Vitamin K2 (some meds conflict...like blood thinners), but the Vitamin K2 directs calcium in the body and stops it from being deposited into the arteries. Also need to stay hydrated to flush excess calcium out of the body.
Avatar f tn It is pretty clear that the earlier RDA of 200 IU was far too low. Now they seem to have decided that 2000 IU daily is a better level. When more information is developed, I suspect it will be increased further to about 5000 IU, after the base level has been established.
Avatar m tn In a separate study lasting 3 years, the risk of depression was found to be 21% lower among women (aged 50 to 79) who reported total daily vitamin D intake (from foods and supplements) of at least 800 IU compared to women with intake of less than 100 IU. Excluding women with evidence of depression at the beginning of the study, a 20% lower risk of depression was seen with intake of just 400 IU or more per day.
Avatar m tn Less than 600 mg daily is safe for children 9 to 13 years old. Less than 800 mg daily is safe for children ages 14 to 18 years old. Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) is POSSIBLY UNSAFE when given intravenously (by IV) to premature infants in high doses. Angioplasty, a heart procedure: Avoid taking supplements containing vitamin E or other antioxidant vitamins (beta-carotene, vitamin C) immediately before and following angioplasty without the supervision of a health care professional.
