cytomel

694885 tn?1232649948 The doctor gave me an rx to get filled prior to my surgey. The rx is for Cytomel 25mg Qty.60. I called around today to get the cost and was told by Walgreens it would be $93.00 and then by Walmart $ 73.47. I thought that they thyroid meds were only going to run about $10.00 a month as was posted out here on the forum. Am I being giving a more expensive drug then others and/or why did my doc rx Cytomel? I did sign up today for the WA state discount rx program and that will knock off about $10.
Avatar f tn He said he personally has never RX Cytomel and generally people get this medication when they are taking T4 and still having symptoms of muscle pain/weakness, etc. But, they generally don't take both meds. just the Cytomel. So confusing....anyone have input on this. I am fairly new to the Cytomel and have no idea.
Avatar f tn Hi, I met a lady at the gym last week who happens to have thyroid disorder as well. She is hypo, however she looks great, she told me she used to have a hard time loosing weight even exercise daily. Her doctor precribed Cytomel at low dose with Synthroid and she said she started loosing weight easier. I heard a lot of hypo patients complain of weight gain or unable to loose weight, but don't hear much of patient taking Cytomel. Is there a reason why doctors don't prescribe Cytomel much?
Avatar m tn Your FT4 looks really good (even, perhaps, a tad high, but nothing to worry about), and you usually decrease levo by approximately 25 mcg when adding 5 mcg Cytomel. So, the increase to 100, plus adding the Cytomel might just have been too much, too fast. Now, you've been alternating for a while, got used to that, the Cytomel might be an altogether different experience.
Avatar n tn Well, I tried a new endo since I still live with all hypo symptoms and asked for Cytomel with Synthroid. He reluctantly agreed to give it a try. He has prescribed lowering my Synthroid to 100 and adding Cytomel 5 b.i.d. for a total dose of 10. I think that seems a little high? My labs are: TSH 1.68. FT4 1.06. Total T4 9.7. Total T3 0.88. Total T3 uptake 37%. I do not know if Cytomel will help or not, but I am willing to try it versus living with the symptoms forever and ever....
Avatar f tn s common to adjust them both at the same time or lower synthroid when adding cytomel. Cytomel is a T3 only med and is about 4 times more potent than the T4 med (synthroid) and too high doses of either could very easily cause a swing to hypER. Cytomel is a fast acting med, but doesn't last in the body very long - so in effect, the doctor WAS raising her total dosage. Many people find that splitting the dose throughout the day helps.
Avatar m tn With cytomel and being given eltroxin again my tsh gradually went from 84. To. 1.5. Now my ft4 is rising at a rate of about 10. Per three months . Am asking what is happening . ( different topic ) I was taken off eltroxin and given ptu when my tsh was 84. With no other tests or procedures performed about a year ago . Am on waiting list still to visit a Endo .
Avatar f tn I am thinking of doing the same thing. My triglicerides are at 300 and I am reading if I increase cytomel that might help. I can't take the satin drugs to lower them, so I am going to try another approach. Right now I have a prescription for 25mg cytomel that my dr has me split in half to take daily...so I thought, what the heck, take the whole pill and see what happens!
Avatar f tn In addition, there has been a shortage of Armour lately and the formula has changed in the pill, so my DR wrote me an RX for cytomel 5mcg twice in the AM and levothyroxine 0.05MG one in the AM as a back up ( in case I cant get my Armour RX filled ) Is it OK to switch from Armour to the cytomel/levothyroxine and is the dosage equivalent ? I notice when I take my Armour, I feel very hot/warm and somewhat irritable afterwards for a few hours. Is that a normal side effect?
299155 tn?1235489269 hello everyone. what exactly is cytomel? my background: on synthroid 125 with a tsh of 0.82. hair loss since first diagnosis in April of 07. I still don't feel like I am where I should be. NO WEIGHT LOSS whatsoever etc. Would cytomel help me feel better? Also, what is the thyroid Pub? Can I join? Thanks.
1369218 tn?1282423884 I have been doing Synthroid/Cytomel for about a year now. I do not really feel better. The more Cytomel I take, the more racey my heart feels. I was on 5mcg twice a day and felt like my heart was coming out of my chest. I then lowered back to just 5mcg and now have hypo symptoms again. My last labs were: TSH 1.47 (0.40-4.50) Free T3 2.6 (2.3-4.2) Free T4 1.4 (0.8-1.8) My Free T3 looks awful, pretty much how I feel!
Avatar f tn Hello all! I had a TT 4 yrs ago. It's been a struggle, not once have I felt my hypo symptons disappear. My doctor will only test TSH, as well my endo agrees with this. My tsh as been gradually going up, I just had it tested its 8 now. Three months ago, I believe it was at 6. I know not a reliable blood test but it's all I've got right now. Anyway, my dr called yesterday and told me once again she was increasing my synthroid it's at.150 to .200.
252327 tn?1250183976 I was wondering who is taking cytomel with synthroid.?? the doc was going to write a rx for Amour Thyroid but there seems to be a shorage nationwide he said cytomel is the syntheic for Amour. I feel great!
Avatar m tn If your doctor took away all your thyroid hormones and prescribed you PTU, then cytomel without even testing Free T3, there certainly should be some recourse. While TSH is considered, in the medical community, to be the standard for thyroid testing, the doctor needs to know what the results mean and how treat it - yours obviously doesn't and, at the very least, should be reported. I don't think you're becoming neurotic; you're simply not being treated properly.

988694 tn?1332359479 Does anybody know a T3 only medicine without fillers? I was added Cytomel and my NT was reduced to 2 grains due to RT3. So far feeling awful, but I am more concern, despite all the pain and discomfort I am in, about Cytomel causing me allergies. My nose is itching and I have been sneezing. I had a similar episode a couple of years ago and I quit it. I cannot do compound pharmacy since I have to travel and it is too much trouble. Any idea about an existent hypoallergenic T3 only medicine?
Avatar f tn She believed me to have T3 conversion issues, so I searched for a new Endo who would let me continue on Cytomel. It took months to get in to the new recommended practice and I finally saw the new Dr. in Aug 2016. She was arrogant and rude, but if she knows what she's talking about I figured I could deal with a gruff bedside manner. She ordered blooswork and I saw her again in 11/16.
Avatar n tn You might want to talk to your doctor about supplementing with a T3 med, such as cytomel or a T4/T3 combo, such as desiccated thyroid hormones like Armour, ERFA, etc.
