cytomel

1355431 tn?1369975306 Hope this helps. I am going to take the advice of the gals here about when to take my Cytomel.
Avatar n tn My Dr. changed to cytomel, due to the fact of not being able to get Aurmour thyroid. I was on 90 aurmor but needed to be incresed. She gave me 50 cytomel. Should I break this up or take at once?
1369218 tn?1282423884 How long have you been on the cytomel? If you are sensitive to T3, then you are going to have same with armour. In fact the ratio of T3 is higher than the T4. Also, are you breaking up your 10mcg daily into 5 in morning and 5 in afternoon?
Avatar f tn 30 am, then I take my cytomel around 7:00-8:00 am. Since I get up so early, I also go to bed very early, so it's worn off and I'm sleepy at bed time. Additionally, the insert that comes with my cytomel says that cytomel, unlike synthroid or other T4 meds, can be taken with or without food, so there is no need to wait an hour to eat, etc. Keep in mind though, that, like T4 med, it IS necessary to separate cytomel from calcium and some other vitamins, etc by at least 4 hours.
Avatar f tn s fairly rare for somone to be on Cytomel only. Usually a small dose of Cytomel is added to the Synthroid, which may have to be reduced to accomodate the Cytomel. Cytomel (T3) is very fast-acting, so it has to be taken several times throughout the day if taken by itself. This leads to intra-day ups and downs in hormone levels. Do you have the results of your latest lab tests (FT3, FT4 and TSH) and their reference ranges?
Avatar f tn I just picked up a 25mcg prescription of Cytomel. I already take 100mcg Synthroid in the morning. What's the best time of day to take the Cytomel? My dr. said in the evening, but I heard it causes insomnia if taken that late. Also, should I take the whole dose at once or split it in half?
1139187 tn?1355706647 Most places I read that you should wait until after blood draw to take any T3 med. I guess that avoids the possibility of false high result. Maybe it also helps avoid making the doctor nervous by T3 being higher than he likes to see.
1369218 tn?1282423884 I take Synthroid first thing in morning and Cytomel a few hours later. When should I do labs to check thyroid? Before any pills? Or does it matter if I take Synthroid?
1369218 tn?1282423884 My doc wants to switch me from Synthroid/Cytomel to armour. Is it any better yet? I know it was reformulated last year, but is it back? I still have hypo symtpoms including insomnia.
Avatar f tn My question is how do people take cytomel twice a day when you also have to take iron and calcium? I can take the first dose in the morning on an empty stomach with my synthroid and wait half an hour to an hour before breakfast. I usually take my iron at lunch an calcium at supper. The doctor mentioned it may be best to take the second dose mid afternoon as taking it before bed may cause insomnia? How does everyone take it?
Avatar f tn Hi there, I am relatively new to all of this but what is ERFA desiccated thyroid? I am almost frightened to ask! Haha! I think that I am not going to take the cytomel every second day as that doesn't seem to be helpful. .5mcg synthroid and cytomel every day seems like a better option. Thank you!
Avatar f tn "Is it normal or okay to take Cytomel and fall back asleep for two hours? " - It kind of comes down to whatever works for you. Some people take T4 meds before bed and it makes them sleep better. Thats kind of the opposite of what most would assume. Never heard of the same result with a T3 med though. When I was very hypo, I could sleep like a rock for a few hours, then layed there with my eyes closed for the remainder of the night till the alarm went off.
1877796 tn?1320527991 m also confused as to how to take it. Some say on an empty stomach yet Dr. Mercola says to take it 1/2 hour after a meal, split into 2 doses. I've been doing the 2 doses, 45 am and 45 pm, but I think I need more. I had a wave of fatigue and fog come over me this afternoon and is still with me, but not as bad as it was a few hours ago. I do want to stay on Armour as I feel so much better, but I need to know the proper way to take it.
Avatar m tn I would like to continue with the Synthroid and add a T3 only med such as Cytomel and am wondering if anyone has a thought about what a good starting dose would be for Cytomel? Is it recommended to dose twice daily for Cytomel and will adding this med cause my need for Synthroid to be reduced? Thanks!
1139187 tn?1355706647 Dear Bruce, I suggest you do the work and read De. Arem's book and see what YOU think about his practice. I live in Santa Monica CA, so I haven't been to the clinic, but because my sister lives in Houston, I'm considering it if I don't get better results with my labs next time. I can tell you that my sister in Houston has Hashimoto's and thinks she does well on Synthroid alone, although she has a hard time keeping her weight down.
Avatar m tn I have been feeling better than I started out last year but I usually feel better when the doctor changes the dosage and then it gradually gets crappy. (tired, achy, feeling cold) This time I stayed relatively stable. Right before last Thurs when I got my blood drawn I didn't feel great but not as horrible as I usually feel by the time I'm due for a blood draw. So the doctor called me today and told me to take one 5mcg Cytomel in the am then take 5mcg of Cytomel at 2pm.
Avatar n tn m not convinced you need more Cytomel. As you said, when you upped the Cytomel to 20 mcg this week, the anxiety kicked up, and that's exactly what I would expect doubling your dose of Cytomel to do. How do you take your Cytomel? Do you split the pill and take it in two separate doses? Armour would probably not be a better choice...Armour has lots of T3 (4-5 T4 to 1 T3) compared to what the normally functioning human thyroid would have (20 T4 to 1 T3).
Avatar n tn Just adding my 2 cents. Three weeks on Armour is not very long. I have been adjusting for a year. When I first started on Armour with synthroid, it was too much, it took a long time and I am still adjusting. But I hung in there, I spent 20 years on synthroid and was up for the challenge of a change. When you said you upped your dosage, to what? I wait at least 4 weeks before upping my dose. Do you think this could of been too much too soon.
Avatar n tn Hi ....Is there anyone on cytomel for hypothyroidism? How long does it take to work? I have put on about 10 pounds slowly even though I have been exercising atleast 3 times a week for 5 out of last 6 months. Then finally about a month ago I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism. At least now I know the reason for weight gain. I just started on 25 mcg of cytomel. I can't wait for it to start working. Just this week I started burning at least 500 calories a day by exercising ....
Avatar f tn my endo prescribed Cytomel (FINALLY) 5mcg daily to add to my Synthroid which she upped to 88mcg daily. Should I cut the Cytomel in 1/2 and take it twice a day instead of once a day? I know I have read posts here that say that it is short-lived and that taking it in 2 doses might be better. Any thoughts????? Thanks so much! I am hoping that the T3 helps me feel better. I have VERY HIGH hopes for this...hoping this is the missing piece to my thyroid puzzle!!! Thanks again!
267288 tn?1256278177 Thank you for your reply. May I ask if you know how long between stopping T3/Cytomel does it take for the T4/Levothyrox to start balancing naturally? Thank you in advance.
