Cytomel use

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel use

cytomel

Avatar f tn The levels suggest that an increase in synthroid and a decrease in cytomel would be more physiologic. We usually use 5mcg in am and 5mcg at 2-3pm if we use cytomel. So in your case, would consider a change to 75mcg of synthroid and 5mcg 2x/day of cytomel -- this would be more physiologic for the body. If you take oral iron, it must be separated by 3-4 hours from any thyroid med to avoid absorption problems of the thyroid med.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I had some questions for you guys regarding cytomel. I am taking straight cytomel. I am on about 12 MCG at this point. I have been slowly building. My ears have been ringing like crazy but i dont have the weird buzzing/neuropothy feeling i had before when taking synthroid and tirosint. I am assuming and hoping that my body will adjust, but can a person Just take cytomel forever? Is this healthy? I dose it throughout the day. I take it in very small amounts either 1.25 or 2.5.
1211076 tn?1303519440 ve been on 112mcg of Synthroid for almost a year now and when I tried Cytomel (breaking the lowest dose in half!) it gave me crazy palpitations and I couldn't stand it. Felt like my heart was beating to fast, also. Free T3 - 2.79 Range is 1.76 to 3.78 pg/ml Free T4 - 1.72 Range is 0.7 to 1.9 ng/dl TSH - 1.310 Range is 0.400 to 4.000 mcu/ml Calcium is fine @ 9.1 Range is 8.4 to 10.3 Thanks for any input!
Avatar f tn This question I posted about the use of Cytomel breaking off my hair was for Hypothyroid not hyperthyroid. I had no symptoms of Hypo but was told I needed medication.
Avatar f tn It should go without saying that during cutting cycles such as a competitive bodybuilding cycle is the best time to use this medication and common practice is to use Cytomel the final 6 weeks of competition to get rid of that last bit of fat; however, it can be successfully used for the entire duration of a diet but one will need to keep an eye on tissue loss if this path is taken. For most a cycle of Cytomel that is in the 6-8 week range will prove to be all the Cytomel they’ll ever need.
Avatar f tn I thought that the generic cytomel was exactly as the brand cytomel. no difference what so ever. I thought I read this somewhere in these forums???? i am on the generic for 3 weeks now and I really feel no different. the doc gave me 25 mg of cytomel to add to my 75mcg of synthroid. advice from you guys, so I cut my synthroid in half and taking only 6 mcg of cytomel. but I have been taking 1/2 of cytomel in the morning and breaking the other half in two. so yeah that is 25 mg.
Avatar f tn I only take my cytomel once a day...my dr has never told me to take it twice a day,im on a very low amount..5mcg..started a new generic version today and very scared about i,im on 50 mcg of synthyroid and my hormone pills, plus femring.had new lab done on the 12th waiting for the results. Im not having much energy and feeling depresed again.
903476 tn?1242237037 The dr keeps saying we have to take it slow. One of my other doctors said I needed cytomel instead. Will the cytomel regulate my thyroid back to normal? I've been 110lbs my adult life then all of sudden I'm 150 and aging a pant size per week. Cut out all sugar grains flour. All other labs are normal hyponatremia under control.
Avatar m tn 25mcg of cytomel is a high dose - - we usually use 5mcg once or twice a day IF we use T3. So adding back a low dose of T3 or increasing synthroid would be options as my prediction is that the TSH will go even higher in the next 1-2 months on 100mcg of synthroid alone given the reported rise seen in only 10 days....
Avatar f tn The replacement dosage for 120 mg Armour is 200 mcg levo. If you want to use Cytomel along with it, you can, but you have to drop the dose of levo to compensate for the Cytomel. For every 25 mcg of levo you drop, you add in approximately 5 mcg of Cytomel. So, your 200 mcg of levo went to 150 mcg, and you should have added 10-12.5 mcg Cytomel. Cytomel is about four times more powerful than levo. You can't just lower the levo and add in the same amount of Cytomel.
Avatar n tn 3 usually) then it may be reasonable, but if not then there is no clear role for routine use of cytomel with a slightly low free T3 level. T3 levels fluctuate during the day so interpret labs w/ caution. TSH remains the best reflection of appropriate dosing.
Avatar f tn 50) Thyroid Peroxidase 18 normal My doctor started me on Cytomel 5 mcg once a day in the AM. She also advised me to take Adreset 2 caps x twice daily bc she said my cortisol levels are mid range (normal) in the morning however at night they elevate at are 12:00-1:00am (which is always the time I wake up from a sound sleep) MAJOR INSOMNIA. I wake up a few times during the night. Symptoms: massive amount of hair loss-I'm down to 1/3 of my hair. I also have burning scalp syndrome.
744962 tn?1270942038 I have been taken off Armour thyroid and now use 50mg of Thyroxin and 10 mg of Cytomel. Is it better to take both at the same time first thing in the morning or to take them at different times. I hope Cytomel will increase my energy levels with time.
Avatar f tn I haven't felt this good in years and really don't want to go off of the Cytomel. The iodine alone didn't seem to do it for me, but I do like the Cytomel and 'find' myself doing stuff, instead of trying to figure out how I'm going to get another nap.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know why post-op TT patients are initially placed on Cytomel? I am aware that Cytomel is just T3 while Synthroid is T4, but I still don't understand. Also, how does Cytomel affect your mood? Is it sufficient or will you go hypo? Any response appreciated.
Avatar m tn at what size is a nodule biopsy performed? Question 2: Is this the correct time to be adding Cytomel?
Avatar f tn The daily dosage of 50 mcg of Cytomel is the equivalent of 200 mcg of a T4 med. In addition, Cytomel (T3) is such a fast acting med that I can easily envision unwanted reactions. Many of our members report on adverse reaction to such a large dosage. I suggest that you discuss with the doctor and reconsider the starting dosage.
Avatar n tn I was always an advocate of Armour thyroid until their recent missteps. Now I'll have to wait and see about their new formulation. Regardless, if a combo is necessary there are other alternatives such as Nature-throid. Or another option is to use both T4 and Cytomel. That's what I had to do as a replacement for Armour. It give you the flexibility to adjust the FT3 and FT4 levels independently.
Avatar f tn Upon leaving the hospital I was put on Calcitriol 0.25mcg and Cytomel 25mcg. I felt better than I have in years until I had the RAI treatment. (I still had 3 small pieces of my thyroid left until then) I had to stop the Cytomel before the RAI but started back on it shortly afterward as well as starting Synthroid 150mcg. All meds are once daily. Shortly afterward the fatigue set in and the brain fog then my pulse rate started going up and I get dizzy.
252327 tn?1250183976 Before cytomel I was tired , brain fog, joint pain. Cytomel gave me no palputaions..nothing..
