Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel to lose weight

cytomel

Avatar n tn Weight becomes an uphill battle with hypothyroidism. Has anyone lost weight on cytomel? What will it take to lose weight while having hypothyroidism and being on cytomel? I know the side effects of cytomel includes weight loss......but how much time do you have to be on cytomel for to start seeing those side effects? I can use any help on this. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn t matter how much i watch what i eat or exercise i can not lose weight WHY??? What am i doing wrong? Please help me lose the weight..Give me some ideas.
Avatar n tn I had a total thyroidectomy 6 years ago and had gained 40 llbs since then. A year ago I started 12.5 cytomel. I never felt better in my life! I was on 125 levothyroxine and 12.5 cytomel to clarify. My doctor said I would not lose weight due to the cytomel. I don't know if it was the cyt or just me feeling better with no more fatigue that made me lose weight. I dropped 25lbs. Two months ago found out I was pregnant and was taken off the cytomel and my levothyroxine was raised to 150.
Avatar f tn What is food and supplements are safe to consume with Cytomel. I am actively trying to lose weight through diet and exercise and feel like I am fighting with a brick wall. Very defeating! I eat certain things or take different supplements, I get extreme reactions. Please advise. . .
Avatar n tn I just passed on a doctors appt today to do one of those non conventional weight loss things. I have about 25 more to lose and my impatience is growing tremdously. Yet I was so ill for years before getting optimal just shy a year ago this month. I took a step back and thought I need more time right now to maintain a healthy balance instead of reaching out again for something that may harm all the good that I am know having.
Avatar n tn He reluctantly agreed to give it a try. He has prescribed lowering my Synthroid to 100 and adding Cytomel 5 b.i.d. for a total dose of 10. I think that seems a little high? My labs are: TSH 1.68. FT4 1.06. Total T4 9.7. Total T3 0.88. Total T3 uptake 37%. I do not know if Cytomel will help or not, but I am willing to try it versus living with the symptoms forever and ever....If not, I guess it is a life of "happy" Synthroid and symptoms!
Avatar f tn Yet I lost weight or it may rather be the edema that I lost within about 1 month and my body is back to normal prior to having the edema. Only thing is I would not like to lose weight at all - when off Cytomel then all the edema and body aches start - when on the Cytomel I do seem to have weight loss. Am not sure what to do here as my T3 was low, Total T3 low and my Reverse T3 high and my white blood count only 2.5 and the ration is 4.2 - 11.
Avatar n tn I am on 125mcg of synthroid and want to add cytomel because of still suffering from fatigue and weight gain. My physician prescribed 25mcg of cytomel and said to discontinue the synthroid. I cannot get into an endo until Feb. and would like to combine the two but am not sure what doses to take reducing my synthroid and adding the cytomel?
Avatar n tn Hi kimberlyn1234, I am on both Synthroid and Cytomel. I was just reduced to 75 Syn and remain at 25 Cytomel. My doctor explained it to me like this: Synthroid is a synthetic T4. Your thyroid works to turn this into T3. Cytomel is a synthetic T3, so it goes right to work without having to go through the "processing". I didn't start on Cytomel but it was added a few years after my diagnosis because my T3's were still low.
Avatar f tn Cytomel is therefore added to Synthroid to effect weight reduction. The effect of Cytomel takes a couple of weeks to set in. Cytomel can be given upto 100 mcg/day. So if you are on10 mcg/d and unable to lose weight it makes sense to increase to 25 mcg/d. Simultaneously Synthroid dose may need to be reduced slightly. Regarding any other laboratory tests besides thyroid profile at this point in time, I feel nothing else is necessary.
Avatar f tn t been able to lose weight (and keep gaining), have lost a lot of hair, tired all of the time, terrible insomnia, sometimes body temp is 96-97 range, sometimes it is 98 range. While on the cytomel, I was losing weight, about 5-6 pounds per week, (lost 23 pounds and was thrilled with this!) had energy, and was able to sleep through the night, which has been a rarity the last few years, and my boyfriend says I don't snore anymore!!
Avatar f tn I have reduced my calorie intake to dangerous levels but I am still putting on weight. I am starting to lose my mind a little bit and need some help! How can I keep the weight gain at bay until the cytomel leaves my system? What can I do to keep the weight off when everything I know (diet and exercise) don't work? How long until I should start feeling normal again?
927140 tn?1244210051 If you are hypo, then your metabolism is slow and will contribute to weight gain. If you are properly treated to get you to the euthyroid state, then your metabolism will have been increased and eventually you will lose weight. So, if the doctor is treating your hypothyroidism with meds, why does he think you also need Phentermine? Would you please post your latest lab test results and reference ranges so that members can help interpret where you are in your treatment?
Avatar m tn My current Armour dose is 90mcg on day and 120mcg the next, a pattern. My newest Endo wants me to switch to 125 of Tirosint and 25 of cytomel. I am scared to switch. Shouldn't she have put me on a higher dose of Tirosent - looks like the conversion chart would equal 150 of Tirosint, or did she knock it down because she is adding 25 of cytomel? Has anyone lost weight on Tirosint and cytomel? Feel less tired.
Avatar f tn normal testoterones(38)- i have lots of energy - but have insomnia- also post-menopausal( rarely hot flashes) - not diabetic- my blood pressure is sometimes high (149x90) or sometimes low (123x70)- my weight can change 2-3 times at the same day...i read about cytomel to lose weight- could i take it with low dosage? please help me - I do not want to go back to gaining weight after so much sacrifice with all exercises and diets and surgery and money????!!! Thank you for your help.
Avatar f tn Your thyroid levels were fine and if you added the cytomel to the 100mcg of levoxyl, the TSH will likely be too low (ie, too much medication) and if you stay on cytomel, the levoxyl dose would need to be changed most likely. The weight gain is not likely due to thyroid.
Avatar f tn t really tell it did anything for me tho. Now i am on brand name Synthroid a little expensive but they also want me to take cytomel very expensive haven't tried it yet just the Synthroid. It seems my weight keeps going up no matter what i am on, it is so frustrating. I wish they would make one med that could control the thyroid and keep your weight from bouncing out of control. Does anybody have any pointers on the weight loss?
Avatar n tn I did test for the Antibodies and they were in range Lastly I tested my Testosterone and the SHGB was way elevated It was 282 (11 - 100) which I researched and found Hyperthyroidism can cause an elevated level but so can be from Primary Biliary Cirrhosis Any light to shed on this whole thing I just want to feel good again have energy and be able to lose weight indicative of my healthy lifestyle Thank you
Avatar f tn s fairly rare for somone to be on Cytomel only. Usually a small dose of Cytomel is added to the Synthroid, which may have to be reduced to accomodate the Cytomel. Cytomel (T3) is very fast-acting, so it has to be taken several times throughout the day if taken by itself. This leads to intra-day ups and downs in hormone levels. Do you have the results of your latest lab tests (FT3, FT4 and TSH) and their reference ranges?
Avatar n tn The TSH is low -- which is often the goal for thyroid cancer treatment. The symptoms are non-specific. There are not a lot of great options with the exception of a trial of cytomel (T3) addition to the synthroid -- this helps a few people, so may be worth a try. Usually we give 5mcg of cytomel in am and mid-afternoon --the synthroid dose would need to decrease by about 40mcg with this addition of cytomel.
Avatar f tn You might still have to make an effort to lose the weight. We often find that better FT3 levels ALLOW you to lose weight, rather than making you lose weight. It's all very individual.
