Cytomel t4

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel t4

cytomel

Avatar n tn 9, he decided to change my synthroid to 100 much and added Cytomel 5mcg twice a day. I’m not familiar with Cytomel, will the addition of this medicine compensate reducing my synthroid? Will it help with my Simptoms? Thank you!
Avatar f tn My question is whether having a very low free T4 is harmful when taking Cytomel? About a year ago I was started on Cytomel by my psychiatrist as an adjunct for resistant depression. I had my TSH tested in the past to screen for thryoid problems, but they had always been "normal" (lab range 0.27-4.20 mIU/mL, results = 2.61 in 2010 and 2.87 in 2013). The Cytomel worked really well for my depression and my energy increased.
765572 tn?1234697366 Can you take just Cytomel? I am on levothyroxine and feeling awful. I heard that this generic of Synthroid is actually not the same as Synthroid and that it is not as good. I heard some people have fabulous results on Armour and Cytomel. Why are Dr's so reluctant to prescribe these other meds? I heard Cytomel really helps with fatigue. All I want to do is sleep, it's awful.
Avatar f tn m on 10 mcg of generic T3 (same as cytomel) and I take a 5 mcg pill in the morning, with my T4 med and another 5 mcg pill around noon. That keeps me going all day.
Avatar n tn 2) main symptoms here-some generalized anxiety, palps, energy levels better though To me, the above comparison seems to say I have no conversion problems and should probably just stick to t4 meds or t4 meds with a small amount of cytomel and switch back to unithroid. What do you think?
267288 tn?1256278177 Thank you for your reply. May I ask if you know how long between stopping T3/Cytomel does it take for the T4/Levothyrox to start balancing naturally? Thank you in advance.
Avatar f tn It is likely the Cytomel that is causing low T4.
Avatar f tn I just started cytomel 25mg today. I did not take the whole pill. I cut it in half. I was scared i might react bad to it. I am currently on Synthroid 75mg. I was on synthroid 50 and my t4 went up to 1.8 range is .90 to 2.0. it was .90. but i don't understand why he raised my sythroid to 75? he said my t3 was low??? so he raises my sythroid plus adds cytomel. shouldn't he keep the sythroid at 50? I thought cytomel had t4 in it . am i going to have to much t4?
Avatar f tn My Endo told me that 1 week after my TT (while pathology makes a Dx over their findings) I will be placed on Cytomel. Then if it's not cancer then I will be placed on Synthroid. Does anyone know why post-op TT patients are initially placed on Cytomel? I am aware that Cytomel is just T3 while Synthroid is T4, but I still don't understand. Also, how does Cytomel affect your mood? Is it sufficient or will you go hypo? Any response appreciated.
Avatar f tn My TSH is a 0.04. TSH is a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone. My doc doesn't treat according to TSH. My frees are in the top 1/3. That's what's important. I'm glad your doc is giving you Cytomel. Here's a tip, break up the pill. I take one half in the AM with my Synthroid and 1/2 around 2 pm. I wait an hour before eating anything after I take my Cytomel. Also, if you take it too late in the evening, you will have trouble falling asleep .
903476 tn?1242237037 Some patients are able to get there with a T4 med, others require a T3 med source, such as Cytomel, or a combo T4/T3 med. If I were you I would find out if the doctor is willing to adjust your FT3 and Ft4 levels until symptoms are alleviated. If that is the plan then stick with that doctor. Symptom relief should be all important.
Avatar f tn He said he personally has never RX Cytomel and generally people get this medication when they are taking T4 and still having symptoms of muscle pain/weakness, etc. But, they generally don't take both meds. just the Cytomel. So confusing....anyone have input on this. I am fairly new to the Cytomel and have no idea.
744962 tn?1270942038 dropped my T4 from 75mcg to 50 per day and introduced the Cytomel at 5mcg per day on Odd days of the month. Dropped the 100mcg of T4 to 75 to add the 5mcg of Cytomel on even days. Now going onto the third week. Somehow feel better taking both the T4 and T3 after breakfast and find my energy levels stay well during the day. When I took the T4 and T3 around 3am by 5 in the afernoon need to nap.
Avatar f tn so i am getting 37.5 of synthroid and 6.25 mcg of cytomel. Does that seem about right? with my t4 being 1.8 with the 50mcg of synthroid, i don't why he would up my synthroid And add the 25mcg's of cytomel. but i am not a doctor so maybe I don't know what i am talking about. What do you guys think?
Avatar n tn Because you are putting the actual active hormone into your system with cytomel. With combo med or t4 meds your body has to convert it and work at it. Your adrenals are major stress glands and are very sensitive believe it or not to the body over working itself. If they are already weak, then any amount of stress or extra work will tear them down even further. That is my take on it anyway.
Avatar f tn Goolara is right. Both Frees are pretty low. You are on the low side for both. Optimally, the FT4 should be mid range- some higher and the FT3 should be near the highest point to relieve you of all symptoms. The problem is when the FT3 is raised the TSH drops and most doctors will not allow an abnormal low TSH , even though taking a direct T3 will drop that number. With the shortage of desiccated - it may be even tougher to suggest this to a doctor.
Avatar f tn Are there many people out there taking Cytomel (T3) as well their T4 for treatment of Hashis? I am in the process of changing Drs. My last Dr. was very emphatic about the importance of balancing the T3 and T4, but I have heard that some med. professionals only concentrate on T4. I'm wondering what to expect with a new practitioner...
Avatar n tn I wouldn't advise adding cytomel without knowing what your actual thyroid levels are -- that's Free T4, Free T3 and TSH. T3 med (cytomel) is about 4 times more potent than the T4 med (synthroid) and it can really throw you for a loop if you don't need it. It can cause very rapid heart rate, palps, etc. Whenever cytomel is added, the T4 med should be dropped accordingly. Did you receive the cytomel from your doctor or as a script? What did your doctor say about adding it?
