Cytomel t3 dosage

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel t3 dosage

cytomel

Avatar n tn You might consider going up to 5mcg's of Cytomel. Usually the dosage of Cytomel is 5-10% of the T4 dosage and at 2.5 you are taking less than that. Plus, your free t3 has room to move up. Most feel best with a free t3 over 350.
8382486 tn?1397856353 Free T4 1.35 / Free T3 2.8 / TSH 0.03. I have read pages and pages and blogs and boards and everything else I can get my hands on about thryoid meds and am so confused. I feel marginally better taking the Cytomel but dont know when to take it, with or without food, with or without my Synthroid. Im back to work now and looking for a routine that I can keep to as far as taking the meds, some energy back in my life and the right questions to ask the MD or requests to make about medication changes.
Avatar f tn After having two thyroidectomies and radioactive iodine for thyroid cancer (1997), I have been on 75 mcg of cytomel for 13 years. My new doctor wants to lower my dosage significantly because she says my tsh level is too low. I have already changed to 50 mcg daily. I am afraid to go any lower. What should I do?
Avatar f tn T3 4.6 (2.3-4.2) T4 1.3 (0.8-1.8) and TSH 0.03 (0.50-5.20) Over the last few years I have increased my thyroid dosage starting very low and now at the high end. I feel better each time I increase but never feeling like I can be at my optimal best. I do not feel I have symptoms of hyperthyroidism as my tests are indicating. My primary physician wanted me to stop dosage on Sundays to balance my levels. Do you think this is the best approach?
2033435 tn?1329943508 5 (32-100) ~ low Will the dosage I was supposed to take improve my labs and feeling? (upping Cytomel only, not adding T4 at all). On the wrong dose, I still felt tired although better than before... probably because the RT3 got normal again. I inquired about the low T4 and he almost wanted to add Armour to Cytomel, but I said I didn't feel well on it. He said okay, Cytomel only is fine, he said T4 should not worry me (even though it's low). He told me to take iron and vitamin D...
Avatar f tn First, please check the T3 result you posted. Also, is that Total T3 or Free T3? Also, please post the reference range shown on the lab report. Please post any other thyroid test results and their ranges as well. What is your daily dosage of Cytomel?
Avatar f tn m on 10 mcg of generic T3 (same as cytomel) and I take a 5 mcg pill in the morning, with my T4 med and another 5 mcg pill around noon. That keeps me going all day.
590006 tn?1221271520 usually taken along with a t4 med like synthroid. Some people who have a reverse T3 problem have to take a higher dosage in lew of T4 meds. Using cytomel for anything but a thyroid issue is dangerous to the heart. If you don't have a T3 deficiency then you shouldn't be taking it.
1040628 tn?1268654906 Maybe he wants to see how you go on Cytomel. And yes it is correct that T3 supplements can cause hyper and arrythmias. It all depends on the dosage and the person in particular. Some do great on Cytomel..some dont. Take the T4 med for 4-6 weeks...check to see if the T4 is converting to T3 and if not, then ask for Cytomel too. Maybe your labs showed your T3 too high and your T4 a fraction low??? What was your last labs?
765572 tn?1234697366 Levothyroxine is the generic for synthroid, which is a T4 med only - those 2 can be interchangeable, but some people do better on one or the other. Cytomel is a T3 only med. Armour is a natural thyroid hormone which has both T4 and T3. T3 is a very short lived hormone - only lasts a few hours and often works best to split the dosage over the day. The body has to convert T4 into T3 in order to benefit. A lot of people do not have a problem making this conversion but others do.
Avatar m tn After reading an article about Cytomel and speaking with my endocrinologist, he added Cytomel to my treatment. Recently he decided to reduce my Cytomel dosage by 1/2. Since that change, I have less energy and can't seem to stay awake. Could the lower dosage be the cause?
Avatar f tn Yes, I was on 200mcg Liothyroine for two years, I'm pretty sure many doctors won't recommend you to be on that high dosage of T3 only medication for longer time. I switched to 160mg Armour thyroid, which worked for me. Why are you on Cytomel? For me, I had problems in converting T4 into T3 Later on my doctor figured out my ferritin was too low, so when it went back to optimal level I could switch to Armour.
Avatar n tn You have to have the proper ratio of both or you will still remain and feel ill. So, you need T4 and T3 meds both. I switched from armour to synthroid and cytomel. And then had to do teh labs every 6 weeks to make sure I was on correct dosage. Cytomel is very potent. I was on 120mgs of armour. I am now up to 100 mcg synthroid and 15 mcg cytomel.
Avatar n tn I am on 3 grains of armour, which amounts to 27 mcg of T3 (9 mcg per grain). Before switching I was taking 15 mcg on T3 (cytomel). So theoretically, despite the fact that my body has to convert the T4 to T3, then shouldn't I be getting that same type of readily available T3 in the naturethroid aside from the T4 it has in it? Does the T4 block the T3 from working somehow? Or is it the time release? It seems like I should be bouncing off the walls with all of the T3 in the naturethroid.
Avatar f tn HI I was taking 120 mg of Armour and have recently been switched to 175 Synthroid and 10 Cytomel. Does this seem similar. I have heard some conflicting info. My Free T3 is low and my md prefered to be able to increase just that through cytomel.
Avatar n tn I got a definate NO from my Doctor and then after researching T3 (cytomel) discovered why he was so adamant. Prior to RAI for Graves and Hyperthyroidism, I had 3 episodes of thyroid storm (atrial fibrillation ) in 2 weeks ..the last one requiring 'paddls' to be used to get the heart back into a normal rhythm. The reason for thyroid storm was EXCESS Ft3. No amount of anti-thyroid meds would bring those levels down and at one stage my T3 was at 22.3 and the ranges were 3.5 - 6.
Avatar f tn what were your lab results before you started with the cytomel? How low was your free t3? A typical start dosage is only 5 mcg and work up from there only if needed. You cannot pay attention to the tsh when on a t3 med...it will supress it and make you look hyper. When on combination meds, you can only treat by the free t4 and free t3. I have never heard of using cytomel to add to the effectiveness of antidepressants. I do know that sometimes depression can be caused by low t3 levels.
Avatar n tn Hi there! How high is your dosage of cytomel that you are taking? Are you splitting that dosage in half and taking half in morning with the other half in the afternoon? Cytomel is very short acting and needs to be split. I split mine and take first thing in AM with my T4 med and then take the other half around 5-6 hours later. I crash and get very fatigued in the afternoons if I forget to take it.
Avatar m tn Since cytomel has a short half life, it shouldn't take long for your blood levels of Free T3 to drop; however, if your symptoms aren't beginning to resolve, perhaps your dosage wasn't dropped far enough. What dosage of Synthroid are you on, along with the 10 mcg of Cytomel? Also what are your actual Free T3 and Free T4 levels? If you have current labs, could you please post them?
267288 tn?1256278177 Supplementing with Cytomel will cause the body to convert less T4 into T3, because you will need less. It will also lower the amount of Free T4 in your blood. At least that is the way I understand it. It is not a permanent change, just an adjustment to try to keep the two hormones in balance.
Avatar n tn There is no need to take your T4 and T3 meds separately. As for the Cytomel, T3 acts so fast that it is better to split it into two doses, one in the morning and one in the early afternoon.
Avatar m tn They should habe immediately lowered your levo dosage when they gave you the script for cytomel. Check again on the script for the cytomel. Starting dosage is usually 5mgs two times per day, with lowered dosage of T4 med by 25mcgs I think. Yes it is nice to hear they are jointly working together to get you better!
1369218 tn?1282423884 Cytomel (T3 med) tends to suppress TSH, which is why TSH is not a good indicator of whether or not a person is hyper - again, I'll refer to myself, with a TSH of < 0.01....... If you think you have a heart issue, by all means see a cardiologist. I had palps, rapid heart rate as well, when I first started cytomel, but once I got used to it, and my levels stabilized, those went away. I did get sent to a cardiologist for a complete work up on my heart, just to be sure..
Avatar f tn 2 mg levothroxine but recently my doc. added 25 mcg of cytomel. My T3 levels went extremely high and TSH less then 0.5. I have been extemely ill - headaches, chills, sweats, light head, dizzy, naseau, anxiety. My doc has stopped the cytomel. My questions are: 1. How long does it take for the thryoid levels to return back to where they were. And how long do these symptoms last. 2. Was 25 mcg of cytomel a normal amount to add to 0.2 mg of levothroxine..
