Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel side effects thyroid

cytomel

Avatar f tn After taking synthroid for 30 plus years for cold nodular, I had a TT on 12/9 due to thyroid cancer being found. Took Cytomel through the holidays and then went on low iodine diet for the last two weeks. I go for blood work tomorrow and am suppose to get first RAI pill on Monday, body scan on Tues and treatment which is a larger dose of iodine later in the week.
Avatar f tn In addition to the medications, there are fillers or binders in the different preparations that cause some people problems. We are dealing with a lifelong condition, so side effects, etc. are not something you just put up with for a couple of weeks like when you take an antibiotic, for instance. Furthermore, we are all different and have different comfort levels of FT3, FT4 and TSH. So, adjusting meds to proper levels is time consuming and trying.
Avatar f tn I could not tolerate the added cytomel. Had every hyper symptom and lost 12 pounds in two weeks. I stopped cytomel, and after 3 days I have tried to resume the 137 MCG of tirosint. I have been on this increased dose for 8 days. I am experiencing exhaustion, muscle aches, racing heart and anxiety with major crying spells. Should I just try to ride this out? I was no where near hyper in labs on this dose before. Is this just my body adjusting?
Avatar f tn 75, and I probably need to have mine bumped again a few times, and maybe some T3 Cytomel added, my thyroid has not been told my my pituitary to go to sleep. Therefore, my thryoid is still awake, and the Hashi antibodies still attack it. With Hashimoto's, as we go through those swings to hyper mode - Mine only lasts a few days now instead of weeks, once we are in hyper mode, .
Avatar n tn I just started cytomel a week ago, I am on 5mcg twice daily, I have noticed now at exactly the 8th day that my face is starting to really break out?? Is this one of the side effects of cytomel, and does anyone know if Phendimetrizine is allowed to be taken the same time as cytomel??
988694 tn?1332359479 It has been more than two years dealing with thyroid medicine and I have not seen significant changes. I feel I am getting worse. if Cytomel does in fact give me side effects (allergies) I think there is nothing my doctor can do. He has been great. However my body is not cooperating. Thanks for the good wishes though.
Avatar f tn ll get past these side-effects I will keep taking the Cytomel. Do people commonly have these types of side effects at first? Do they usually subside?
Avatar f tn I have taken Cytomel or a generic for a number of years without any identified issue with it. From what I have read Cytomel is the only med with no known side effects. The symptoms that people report when taking it are most likely due to inadequate levels of Free T4 and/or Free T3, low B12, low D, or low ferritin. And of course you are now aware of the need for cortisol levels to be optimal, in order to successfully take T3 meds.
Avatar f tn Would consider thyroid/neck ultrasound to evaluate the area. There is no alternative to cytomel (except generic) and we usually use 5mcg dosing 1-2x/day. Another option, if thyroid levels stable and ultrasound ok, would be to have an ENT evaluation.
Avatar f tn Diagnosed with hypo 1999 – had many side effects when trying to increase synthroid then levoxyl to get β€œin range.” Finally felt best being slightly hypo on 50 mcg brand levoxyl and 12.5 mcg. brand Cytomel taken each morning. Labs pretty stable until June 2010. My TSH went up to 7.75, had many uncomfortable symptoms, very tired, period twice in one month, hot and cold spells for 2 months which finally resolved after I increased my cytomel to 12.5 twice per day for about one month.
Avatar f tn Great I think I will try selenium..but I hope there are no side effects. I take 5mcg of Cytomel split in two. Now that it's getting warming I've had to go down to 2.5 mcg split up cause I couldn't take the sweating. I did take 15mg of Natural thyroid a long while back but I couldn't take it along with cytomel due to heating up. So I stopped the natural thyroid as I do need T3 more. I do not take my medication before blood draws.
Avatar m tn Do the damaging effects of Amiodarone on the thyroid stop when THE MEDICINE IS STOPPED OR ARE THEY PERMANENT? In 2007, apparently for a prolonged QT I was hospitalized, given 1600mg amio and then 200 daily. 15 months later another cardiologist found I had a TSH of 38. She brought it down to normal in three months with levothyroxine and put me on propafenone. Ever since tests have been normal with FT3 a bit low in 20s and 30s but within he range.
Avatar f tn I recently had my thyroid meds switched to 100mg Tirosint and 20mg Cytomel. It's not helping clear my brain fog as I was hoping, but I feel very tired and nauseated and a little warmer after lunch and at night. My cortisol is low in the morning and higher at night, so I don't know if this has something to do with that or if I'm just on too much T3. My FT3 was 4.0 at my last labs, but I still had major hypo symptoms so my doc thought I may need to raise that level a little.
Avatar f tn I would say that any hypo type symptoms you have are not side effects of the dose increase, but are due to inadequate level of Free T3, compounded by excessive Reverse T3. Many of us have found that we needed Free T4 to be at least mid-range, and Free T3 to be in the upper part of its range, and adjusted from there as needed to relieve symptoms.
Avatar f tn Hi there, My doctor put me on cytomel for chronic fatigue/depression. He started at 25mcg. I told him that helped and he moved me up to 50mcg. Last appt I went in, I stated I didn't feel very energetic at all (I also have chronic back problems and take pain medicine)...he said, "well, let's up this to 75mcg, we can go to 100mcgs before needing to check your thyroid". So I go to my gyn and he ran all sorts of blood work and my TSH came back at 0.007!! I'm so worried.
Avatar f tn t seem to be experiencing any symptoms of not having a thyroid. Or, should I go ahead and start taking this Cytomel as most likely I will start to expereience symptoms soon. I've heard people have some side effects (sleeplessness, headaches, nauseau) taking this Cytomel. Please let me know what you think. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I run upwards of anywhere from 10-18 miles a day and I am curious if this will be possible for me to do again as I have been told from other thyroid patients that being on synthroid has heart palpatations as a side effect.
