Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel research

cytomel

Avatar f tn She told me she was 20 lbs over weights due to being hypo and was only be able to loose few lbs even with teaching many aerobic classes and eating healthy until she heard of Cytomel. She started taking 25mcg of Cytomel 4 yrs ago and noticed the fat melted quickly. She is now at her ideal weight and very fit.
Avatar n tn When TSH is too high Cytomel dose might be too low. If TSH was optimal F/T-3 would be high and F/T-4 low. Cytomel may decrease T4. I don't think your Cytomel/Synthroid ratio is correct. Unless other things are going on; you didn't care to share your levels.(?) T3 dose should be split and taken every 6 to 8 hour interval, if not time released. For instance, if the dose is 25 mcg, then take 5 mcg. pills, four times a day or every 6 hours.
Avatar f tn I had a TT in October '07 due to papillary thyroid carcinoma. I am 40 yo, the nodule was 12mm, there were no apparent metatheses at all, and I underwent radioactive iodine treatment afterward. The endo put me on 125mcg synthroid and up to 75mcg cytomel after the final scan. I then tapered off the cytomel. While on the cytomel, I felt "normal" meaning I had no symptoms either hyper or hypo and I never felt a rush from taking the cytomel.
Avatar n tn Usually we give 5mcg of cytomel in am and mid-afternoon --the synthroid dose would need to decrease by about 40mcg with this addition of cytomel.
Avatar f tn I think I need to have something like cytomel to add t3 to my meds. My question is....if i bought some of the otc pills, is it like cytomel or Armour? Would it hurt to take extra pills like that in addition to my levothyroxine? Should i ask my doctor? Why can you buy natural thyroid hormone products and yet need a prescription for others? I just dont want to do something stupid.
Avatar f tn I am recently diagnoised with hypo-been taking 100 synthroid for almost a month. I work out 5 days a week I was wondering if anyone has taken cytomel along with synthroid? If so has it helped in weight loss? I work out so very hard and go to the gym twice a day, The doctor says until my metabolism and thyroid get on track my weight won't change. I have been doing some research on cytomel and am thinking of asking my Dr. if I can try it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn The endocrinologist originally tried to balance the TSH and T4 with synthroxin. Finally he added 5 mcg of T3 (cytomel) and bingo the levels came into line. Over the years the balance has gone out a few times. Presently I take .088 mg T4 and .1 mg on alternating days and 12.5 mcg T3 daily. My latest blood tests are still out of line. Could I hear from others who needs the T3 to be balanced and have experience getting rebalanced.
Avatar f tn Why are you switching if the doctor wants to add T3 in addition to Synthroid?
Avatar n tn Seems like your doses were really high--especially the Cytomel, which still seems a concern. I would research Cytomel and get a second opinion from an endochronologist. Ridha Arem, M.D. explains the correct usage of giving Synthroid with Cytomel. I've found the best way to combat (or try to control anyway) this immune system disease is a very sound diet: fruit, vegetables, whole grains, fish, flax seed, etc. Dr. Arem talks about that in his book.
Avatar n tn Everything was great until last summer I have been starting to gain weight approximately 10 lbs. and feeling really tired. My doctor raised me to 5mg of cytomel but I didnt feel any better and my free t4 came back low (0.48)so he changed me to 90 mg of Armour in June. I lost 3 lbs but didnt really feel any better still tired. I just had my blood work done and my TSH came in at .04 (from 0.41)free t3 2.8 (from 3.1 when on armour 60 and 5mg cytomel) and my free t4 is 0.68(from 0.
Avatar f tn I have diagnosed hypothyroidism, Hashimotos, and from my own research with functional and integrative medicine practitioners I've studied online & taken some online testing only- my adrenals are "crashed." Source: Alan Christianson, NMD-(The Adrenal Reset Diet- w/other recommendations including specific supplementation do's and don'ts).
5584884 tn?1370371308 Hoping someone can help. Was diagnosed with Hypo. back in 2006. Was placed on Thyroxine/Cytomel combo. since. Seemed to have worked well til about a year ago. Heard several Endo's "complain" about the use of Cytomel. Have had others say some people won't convert without it! In 2006, in order to maintain proper T3 levels...I was placed on 5mcg per day. Over time my conversion from T4 to T3 has required my Dr.
Avatar n tn Hi - apparently this Cytomel is very potent stuff, this is what is seem to need. What are the side effects and how effective is it when used correctly. My metabolism is very delicate and I see why it is prescribed in small amounts. I am just disgusted with medical viewpoints and when I go in there to see them they don't seem to know too much about thyroid problems.
1369218 tn?1282423884 I have been doing Synthroid/Cytomel for about a year now. I do not really feel better. The more Cytomel I take, the more racey my heart feels. I was on 5mcg twice a day and felt like my heart was coming out of my chest. I then lowered back to just 5mcg and now have hypo symptoms again. My last labs were: TSH 1.47 (0.40-4.50) Free T3 2.6 (2.3-4.2) Free T4 1.4 (0.8-1.8) My Free T3 looks awful, pretty much how I feel!
Avatar n tn Do you think the pneumonia was related to the Cytomel? Why were you taken off the Cytomel? If FT4 levels are too high and FT3 levels are too low, you are still going to feel hypo since T3 is what your cells can use. If your doctor has recommended trying selenium, I think I'd follow his suggestions. However, I also think you need to add Cytomel back into your meds, which may necessitate your dropping your Levoxyl a bit at the same time.
Avatar f tn It has been 5 weeks and I would like to get retested so I can get redosed and possibly add T3 as Cytomel taking a half dose in AM and PM. I know I am not right and would like to speed the process up. The extreme fatigue, moo, and weight issues are not even close to being where they should be. I was first diagnosed in 2002 after my first pregnancy but I know I have been hypo for years as I have taken 1 1/2-2 hour naps for years and have always been extremely sensitive to cold.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed hypothyroid about 6 or 7 weeks ago when I went into my Dr. for my annual checkup/bloodwork. He put my on .50 synthroid and told me to come back in 6 weeks for more blood work. I did that yesterday....and was more than ready for a change....since starting the synthroid my period STOPPED....
793305 tn?1493925518 I currently take 5 mcg of Cytomel and .88 mg of Levoxyl. After doing research I sought out a Dr. in my community that prescribed Cytomel. That little bit does make a difference for me. I have never felt like I did before Hashimoto's in many respects, but I personally feel that Cytomel helped my energy level much more than the traditional sole replacement therapy!
533212 tn?1245849211 I have been doing a little research after test results showed low T3, low end but within range TSH, and near high but within range T4. It was suggested that I take Cytomil in addition to the Synthroid that I have been taking for 8 years now. My question is after researching the internet, and reading a lot of good press for Armour Thyroid, should I ask my doctor to put me on Armour Thyroid or just add a prescription for Cytomel to bring my T3 levels back within range.
Avatar f tn s everything just went to hell for me physically so this year I did a lot of research on cytomel and was very much looking forward to trying it so I could atleast partially function again. Thanks to you BOTH for your input. Like I said before, I feel like I am screaming here in "nowheresville" USA and no one hears me so it's nice to have people who are going through similar situations to talk to...........THANKS AGAIN!!!
Avatar f tn Hi, I need some help! Can I come off cytomel cold turnkey without side effects? My primary doctor put me on cytomel for chronic fatique/depression. He started me on 25mcg. I felt better so he increased to 50mcg. I said to him at my last appt that it didn't seem to be working and he said we'd go to 75mcg. He said "we can go to 100mcg and then we'll check your thyroid sometime".
909086 tn?1242660764 25 mcg of Cytomel to start is huge! And, when you start cytomel your suppose to cut your T4 med back by 20 mcg I believe. Second...you cannot treat with a T3 med without testing your Free T4 and Free T3...that is how you dosage and treat. T3 will supress the TSH and you cannot go by this whatsoever when on both meds. You should be having a Free T4 and Free T3 done with your TSH EVERY time. Cytomel and generic comes in 5mcg dosages for easier dosaging.
Avatar f tn My Endo has not even checked my T3 levels. I have done lots of research and am reading alot about Cytomel. I need to find an Endo in NJ, who for one will check my T3 levels but also prescribe me Cytomel at least on a trial basis and see if my symptoms improve. Please help if you know of a well informed Endo in NJ because I really cant live my life with a diminished quality of life much longer. It is affecting all areas of my life.
Avatar f tn To avoid weight gain with one loeb left will I only need syntchronal or synchronal and cytomel.
Avatar f tn T4 does convert to T3 -- Armour or the addition of cytomel is a consideration, but the research on this is not that convincing - although some patients feel better with it. Target TSH is around 1.0, but "fine tuning" between the 0.6 - 3.5 range you mention is not likely to make a difference. So, from thyroid standpoint the options are do nothing or try some T3. Otherwise, look into non-thyroid causes or life-stressors, etc.
Avatar f tn I read your question and I am confused. You were on Synthroid and Cytomel. Cytomel is a T3 drug. Why did you want to switch? Why did your doctor allow that switch without testing you appropriately using the Ft3 and Ft4 and trying to just tweak your meds? Switching thyroid meds is difficult and now being on Armour - it may take you quite a while to stabilize on it. Without correct testing - it's a guessing game on where you may need to tweak your meds.
