Avatar f tn Usually we use 5mcg tablet of cytomel (1-2x / day) - if used at all. With this change in thyroid replacement, you will likely need labs in 5-6 weeks to re-evaluate needs.
458072 tn?1291415186 Cytomel would GIVE you anxiety, not allieve it. I got off of it because it made my heart race slightly and didn't allow me to have a proper sleep/wake cycle. This is not an anti-anxiety drug AT ALL. If you don't make enought T3 out of the T4 replacement I assume you're taking, Cytomel would be the drug prescribed. If not, don't take it.
Avatar f tn Had to giggle on your question you posted about not wanting pig thyroid and seeing your screen name GuineaPigs8. Sometimes the thyroid mind in me is just silly...... sorry Go to rx.com or drugs.
Avatar f tn I run upwards of anywhere from 10-18 miles a day and I am curious if this will be possible for me to do again as I have been told from other thyroid patients that being on synthroid has heart palpatations as a side effect.
Avatar f tn Usually T4 alone is the standard of care. Straight T3 (cytomel) is not recommended for long-term replacement but is sometimes used. Would prefer a combination of levothyroxine and cytomel. T3 can be over-stimulating so even with a high TSH there can be periods of excess stimulation to the heart causing heart palpitations and dangerous rhythm disturbances -- talk to your doctor if this happens.
Avatar f tn of 08 i have been taking cytomel 50mcg and levothyroxine 125mcg every morning. I have gained 50lbs and my thyroid levels are: TSH 0.00, T3U 33, T4 7.6, FTI 2.5 and i am always tired and it doesn't matter how much i watch what i eat or exercise i can not lose weight WHY??? What am i doing wrong? Please help me lose the weight..Give me some ideas.
1474133 tn?1287149045 Does this mean that I may have to look into Cytomel or some other FT3 replacement....or will an increase in Synthroid bring it up rather than down? Thanks for any input!
Avatar n tn Im on synthroid 37.5 mg per day and 2.5 mg of cytomel also.My dr at last vist put me on a adrenal support supplememnt.I was just reading about my thyroid meds and it says if you have low adrrenal function to check with dr before taking thyroid meds..this is confusing to me/Anyone else out there on thyroid meds and adrenal supplements?
1205917 tn?1265745553 Can anyone, doctors especially included, tell me anything about their experiences with adding Cytomel to their daily regimen of thyroid hormone replacement? My main concerns are appearance & weightloss, energy, and mood (including anxiety & concentration).
407745 tn?1230850087 I am taking Synthroid 100 MCG & Cytomel 5MCG what happens when you have too much T3 ? i have been looking for a new endrcrinologis, the dr.
Avatar f tn Found out my body somehow adjusted to the T4 hormone replacement med, and the T4 was no longer changing over to T3. He added Cytomel (T3 replacement hormone) to my synthroid, and I no longer have any of the horrible symptoms I was having....he's had to adjust my T3 replacement hormone once thus far, by increasing it due to the effects wearing off by around noon each day.
280485 tn?1249013844 Cytomel/Synthroid or Cytomel and (insert any other T4 drug here), and Armour too? Of course not all at the same time. I'm looking for a comparison in synthetic drug combos vs. natural thyroid replacement here. I swear I've tried more thyroid meds than a drug addict at this point (and could probably start my own pharmacy... Shhhh! Don't tell the FDA...:-O), but I've not yet tried Armour.
Avatar n tn The goal TSH is 0.3-2.5 for replacement -- including replacement with combinatation cytomel/levothyroxine - it usually only takes - 2-3 adjustments to achieve this. Thyroid problems can contribute to depression, but often the depression needs separate treatment.
Avatar f tn I was then prepared for RAI and removed from the synthroid and put on Cytomel at 100 mcg three times a day. My TSH levels were spiked to over 30 on my next TSH test a month later. It was decided that I did not need an RAI as this had told the doctor's treating me that my thyroid had ceased to function. (This was 7 years after onset of the most severe symptoms and uncontrolled weight gain.
Avatar f tn I asked for the Cytomel and she did not object. I had read many people on here say that often T4 replacement alone would not be enough to really feel "normal". I'm 33. I weight 150 pounds. I would like to feel "normal" again.
Avatar f tn Please post your actual thyroid hormone levels, and be sure to include reference ranges which vary lab to lab and have to be posted with results. Why are you on both, cytomel and Armour? Why not just get on a high enough dose of Armour to do the trick? It's not unusual for TSH to be suppressed (disappear) when on thyroid replacement med, particularly those with a T3 component, such as cytomel or Armour. I'm on generic liothyornine (generic cytomel) and my TSH lives a < 0.01.
1019013 tn?1252002096 When I was tested, my PCP called me at home and changed my meds back to Synthroid on the spot. How do you feel about synthetic replacement versus natural replacement? Any time I mention a symptom to my doctor, I feel like he honestly thinks that I am a hypochondriac so I hate to even go in and see him---other docs do the same as well. I am a reasonably healthy 50 year old woman who just wants to feel good again. I know I can if I can just convince a doctor to really listen to me.
Avatar n tn I was put on both cytomel and synthroid due to very high thyroid antibodies. After 3 plus years of medication, I recently have went off of all medication due to the fact that I was having hair loss and numerous other symptoms. My TSH is in the normal level, but higher than used to be normal for me. Does taking synthroid and cytomel permanently damage your thyroid gland? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Post your FT3 and FT4 levels. If you can't lose the weight, maybe you'd benefit from your levels in the upper 1/3 of the range, not just 'in range' as so many clueless endos are apt to leave you. The reason many of us don't lose weight is because many endos still don't test/treat FT3 levels.
Avatar f tn I have to agree...sounds like a LOT of Cytomel. The replacement dosage for 120 mg Armour is 200 mcg levo. If you want to use Cytomel along with it, you can, but you have to drop the dose of levo to compensate for the Cytomel. For every 25 mcg of levo you drop, you add in approximately 5 mcg of Cytomel. So, your 200 mcg of levo went to 150 mcg, and you should have added 10-12.5 mcg Cytomel. Cytomel is about four times more powerful than levo.
Avatar n tn I have a great endo in Fairview Park her name is Nancy McBride. I had expressed interest in natural thyroid replacement because of all that I had read. Through much discussion Nancy and I decided that Synthroid + Cytomel was the way for me to start. I expressed my need for a T3 component right out of the gate and she listened and agreed!! She's a great doctor.
Avatar n tn I was always an advocate of Armour thyroid until their recent missteps. Now I'll have to wait and see about their new formulation. Regardless, if a combo is necessary there are other alternatives such as Nature-throid. Or another option is to use both T4 and Cytomel. That's what I had to do as a replacement for Armour. It give you the flexibility to adjust the FT3 and FT4 levels independently.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist suggested that Cytomel may help some with depression and also with the tiredness and sleepiness I have had for years.I went to internet and read about hypothyroidism and how it often is undiagnosed due to normal blood test. Well I was uneasy about the Cytomel at first but when i saw how many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism I have I wondered if that isn't my problem. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia also and wondered if that has anything to do with the thyroid.
