Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel prescribing information

cytomel

Avatar f tn Are you making it clear when you ask the question that you want to know if they will use a combination T3/T4 therapy. They may think you want to know if the doctor will use T3 alone. Is it possible to go out of plan? If you're feeling well, you might only have to see your doctor once a year. Due to very high deductible health insurance for the past many years, I've arranged with my endo to only see him once a year.
1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
1755386 tn?1312584941 I recently started taking 5mcg of Cytomel daily. I started on August 24th and have had no problem. I am also taking 125mcg of Synthroid. As you can see from my lab values that my T4 which is a total is way over range. I have faxed my doctor that I was concerned about that and could she lower my Synthroid. Of course as usual no response. Anyway today I am extremely nervous for some reason. Kind of like a panic attack. I have never had these before. I really don't like it.
Avatar f tn 2 mg levothroxine but recently my doc. added 25 mcg of cytomel. My T3 levels went extremely high and TSH less then 0.5. I have been extemely ill - headaches, chills, sweats, light head, dizzy, naseau, anxiety. My doc has stopped the cytomel. My questions are: 1. How long does it take for the thryoid levels to return back to where they were. And how long do these symptoms last. 2. Was 25 mcg of cytomel a normal amount to add to 0.2 mg of levothroxine..
Avatar f tn What would be the determining factor for prescribing armour thyroid vs synthroid (and maybe cytomel)? I appreciate your help very much. It seems like it has taken forever to get the right dosage and help.
Avatar m tn First off what are your actual dosages of Eltroxin and Cytomel? And have you been tested for Free T3? Any doctor prescribing a T3 medication, should also be testing Free T3 every time TSH and FT4 are tested, to make sure levels are stable. I understand that in Canada, you are under the National Health rules and may not be able to obtain all the necessary testing. Have you been tested for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis?
Avatar f tn I think I need to have something like cytomel to add t3 to my meds. My question is....if i bought some of the otc pills, is it like cytomel or Armour? Would it hurt to take extra pills like that in addition to my levothyroxine? Should i ask my doctor? Why can you buy natural thyroid hormone products and yet need a prescription for others? I just dont want to do something stupid.
Avatar f tn Synthroid takes 6 weeks to build up in your system so taking more wouldn't do anything for a few weeks. Cytomel is faster acting and is a T3 med. Maybe your Endo would this for you for a few weeks until you get some Synthroid built up in your system? I would ask. That is a RIDICULOUSLY high TSH, how are you feeling?
894666 tn?1274097896 I recently (1 month ago) started taking Cytomel 5 mcg twice a day in addition to generic synthroid of 50 mcg which I have been on for a year. For the past 2 weeks I have had an issue with anger and now terrible breakout on my face with I have never had before. Has anyone ever had a similar problem. If it is the cytomel, I think I need to stop taking it. I was hoping it would help with weight loss, which is has not.
744962 tn?1270942038 I was on 50 mcg levothyroxin and10 mcg cytomel and I took the cytomel in 2 doses - the first with my levothyroxin first thing in the morning, the second about 10:00. I should tell you that MY "first thing in the morning" is at 3:00 am......... So the second dose of cytomel was approx 7 hrs after the first and that seemed to get me through the day okay.
Avatar f tn So I was having a lot of issues with Cytomel and called a different doc I was seeing to get her opinion on what I should take (she's the one who is prescribing me Cortef and I'm currently taking 10mg in the morning). I was taking 100mg Tirosint and 20mg Cytomel and had asked this doc to switch me to NP thyroid. I asked her if she thought I needed to be on a lower dose because of the Cortef and she ended up prescribing 60mg NP Thyroid (30mg in am and 30mg in pm).
Avatar n tn t had that at all since starting the Cytomel). Is it even possible for the lack of taking Cytomel to hit me that quickly? I know Cytomel is a quicker acting and quicker out of the system medication but is it possible to notice it that quickly? I am thinking of leaving her a message on Tuesday to see if I can go back on Cytomel and reduce the Levoxyl. I don't think she's a huge fan of Cytomel but at least she was willing to prescribe it at that point.
Avatar f tn Hello. I recently had a thyroidectomy and I just had to stop taking my cytomel about two weeks ago for an upcoming radioactive iodine treament on Monday. Im getting really hypothyroid, Its getting hard to stand, im sore and most of all im sooo tired but I cant sleep. Im tired, but my anxiety is shooting through the roof. Will this go away after I start my hormone again? please help!
Avatar f tn Hi there ... Thanks for the fast input ! So you're not concerned that the T3 is above the range ? I'm so concerned about "above the range" now because I've had to fight so hard to get any treatment at ALL...
Avatar n tn also i am getting different information about whether cytomel can be taken with food, or on an empty stomach. also i am on yaz birth control, which i take several hours after my cytomel--is that ok? please help.
Avatar n tn Perhaps I got it wrong. But my daughter's on the cytomel and the question remains the same.
Avatar f tn Just looking for anymore information or advise about withdraws from Fioricet / I have been taking this medication from years from Migrain headaches, it's seemed the longer I was on it the less it helped so I would increase my doses because I could not get rid of my headaches the other day I just stopped using it because it was like just this non stop headache.
Avatar f tn The inactive ingredients in Cytomel consist of calcium sulfate, gelatin, starch, stearic acid, sucrose and talc. No microcrystalline filler shown. You can get Cytomel, or generic, in 5 mcg tablet. That should be a small enough increment for you to titrate your dosage slowly. With that small amount, why would you need to go to a TR version? Did the hives show up right after you switched?
Avatar f tn 0 indicates a resistance problem and that raising the T4 supplement further suppresses the ability of T3 to be utilized in the cells. I read some information that says that in a situation like this, Cytomel ONLY is given for a period of up to 12 weeks to clear the rT3 proteins form the body. Is anyone aware of this protocol ? My rT3/ T3 ratio is 1.6. As you can see in my labs above, my levels of both FreeT4 and FreeT3 have barely risen with a rise in dosage of one or both.
Avatar m tn Can T3 (specificaly Cytomel) be taken alone to treat Hypothyroidism? Is this better for some patients in terms of relieving fatigue and other symptoms?
Avatar f tn Armour has a high T3 to T4 ratio, so it would be unusual to have to add more T3 (Cytomel) to it. If you post FT3 and FT4, we can take a look and see if anything jumps out at us.
Avatar f tn I agree that you should not take calcium supplements, etc for 4 hours after taking thyroid med; however, I'm not convinced that a bit of milk in your morning coffee is going to mess things up much, if at all. Read the information sheet that came with your cytomel. Mine says it can be taken "with or without food". Levothyroxine, which is a T4 med, should be taken on an empty stomach at least an hour before eating; however, I don't believe that holds true for cytomel.
Avatar f tn I have a psychiatrist prescribing my cytomel and nobody wants to prescribe my levo because my suppressed tsh level. My free t3 and free t4 are perfect as ever doctor tells me but all insist that they need to increase my tsh level. I do not know how to find a doctor that will get over this issue. I have never had one accept my suppressed tsh or prescribe me cytomel, they just left me to die and put me on 800 calorie diets.
