Cytomel only treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel only treatment

cytomel

1070570 tn?1283436213 I have no personal experience with Cytomel-only therapy, but I do know of people who have been treated with T3-only temporarily. Dosage is very individual, and what others are taking will not apply to you. Food does not affect Cytomel like it does Synthroid. You don't have to fast before taking it. Once again, when to take your last dose is very individual, and you have to experiment with the time to see when it provides the best energy boost without disturbing your sleep.
798555 tn?1292787551 For two weeks I just tried a combo of 112 levothyroxin (t4) with cytomel 5 (t3) in two haves (morning with levothyroxin) and afternoon cytomel only. My muscle pain seemed to lessen and my brain fog went away, I no longer got sleep attacks while driving. The bad part - a weird lingering headache that would not stop and sleep problems - like a wiered meth addict!
Avatar m tn I would like to continue with the Synthroid and add a T3 only med such as Cytomel and am wondering if anyone has a thought about what a good starting dose would be for Cytomel? Is it recommended to dose twice daily for Cytomel and will adding this med cause my need for Synthroid to be reduced? Thanks!
Avatar n tn s on the floor of the range and they think putting you on cytomel only is a good thing? Your FT3 is only at 47% of its range, when the recommendation is upper half to upper third of the range... you have a long way to go to get to the recommended levels for either FT3 or FT4, so it's no wonder your symptoms don't go away...
Avatar f tn t want to give you T4 because you would then have to stop taking it and wait several weeks before further treatment was possible. Cytomel should improve your mood and other hypo symptoms, but because it is so fast-acting, you are apt to go through "peaks and valleys" throughout the day as the FT3 levels fluctuate. Are you taking your Cytomel split into more than one dose per day?
Avatar f tn I took Cytomel for a year and it was a miracle med for me. Previous treatment with T4 alone did nothing for me that I could feel. With the addition of Cytomel, I felt great and was able to eat a normal amount of food without gaining weight. When I changed insurance coverage, I had to use the generic form of T3. It didn't work like the Cytomel did. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? My labs were not different on the Cytomel, but I felt so much better.
988694 tn?1332359479 Does anybody know a T3 only medicine without fillers? I was added Cytomel and my NT was reduced to 2 grains due to RT3. So far feeling awful, but I am more concern, despite all the pain and discomfort I am in, about Cytomel causing me allergies. My nose is itching and I have been sneezing. I had a similar episode a couple of years ago and I quit it. I cannot do compound pharmacy since I have to travel and it is too much trouble. Any idea about an existent hypoallergenic T3 only medicine?
Avatar n tn the problem w/ cytomel alone is that it is short acting (in and out in 12 hours) while T4 has a long half-life -- so if T3 is used, T4 should be used in combination. That being said I have 2-3 patients on cytomel alone but they take it 2-3 x /day (ie if 15mcg is your dose, take 5mcg 3x/day).
1058524 tn?1285187240 I can't take Cytomel past one pm or I can't get to sleep until midnight. That stuff is strong. I suggest taking it earlier, and then breaking the 25 into three or four doses. Maybe 25 in the am. 12.5 before lunch and 12.5 before dinner. Also, I don't think you will feel your best until you get back on the Levo. How long until you are finished with treatment and can get back on the Levo? I am thinking of quitting my Cytomel and just going with the stronger Synthroid.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I think what works is what works. And what works for some people doesn't work for others. You have been on nearly every thyroid drug so far and in combination. So if this T3 only approach works then I say AMEN! This T3 only route is probably a bit rare. But again you've tried the common methods of treatment. T3 only may be a bit harder to moderate since that it is an all or nothing sort of medication.
Avatar n tn Lugols is Iodine maybe you should try Iodoral they have 12.5 that is probably less the Logols. Best thing to do is test your skin for Iodine absorbtion. I have never taken Cytomel only Armour so I can't say much about Cytomel. could be a gland issue.
Avatar f tn Why someone who is hypothyroid with low T4 and also T3 and with poor conversion into T3 is not suplemented with Cytomel only? If T3 is an active form do we need T4 ( synthroid) at all if there is poor conversion of course?
314892 tn?1264623903 He said I could have increased my Levoxyl only to 112 mcg, but he decided to add Cytomel after discussion with the doctor treating my Lyme. Endo says I may need a nearly supressed TSH to feel well. It is hard to tell which symptoms are Lyme or thyroid at this point. Reason Lyme doc wanted me to try Cytomel: mild pre-tibial edema, slow deep tendon relexes on relaxation phase and low body temp. Can anyone relate experiences (good or bad) with Cytomel?
Avatar m tn Has your reverse T3 (RT3) ever been tested to see if you have RT3 dominance? The therapy for RT3 dominance is T3-only meds. Your liver converts T4 to both T3 and RT3. In some people, RT3 builds up and is converted more rapidly than T3. The idea behind taking T3-only is that conversion is, in effect, brought to a standstill, which gives your body a chance to purge the excess RT3.
Avatar n tn Do you know why your doctor put you on Cytomel only? T3-only meds are seldom used on a permanent basis, but sometimes used to treat metabolic disturbances on a temporary basis. How do you take your Cytomel? That is a huge dose of Cytomel, BTW. Since T3 is roughly fout times more potent than T4, 100 mcg T3 is equivalent to about 400 mcg of T4. We need to balance both T3 and T4 to feel well. I'd like to see labs, but I'm betting you're overmedicated on T3 and starving for T4.
Avatar n tn Your doctor is doing the right thing by giving you only small increases doses of cytomel at a time. As the others said, T3 med is 4 times more potent that T4. I'm on cytomel because my FT3 wouldn't come up either. I started out on 10 mcg - levo cut back from 100 to 50 mcg at the time. I felt awesome for a while, but then I started having rapid heart rate, palps. etc even though my FT3 was still not even mid range yet and I was having hypo symptoms.
Avatar n tn m on 137mcg of synthroid and 10 mcg of cytomel and the cotor told me my Free T3 is too high and to stop cytomel. But I feel better...I really don't want to. Is this normal?
4524270 tn?1355878350 to cut Armour out first and immediately take Cytomel equaling the T3 I was getting from NDT plus the current Cytomel dose, or weaning off Armour and taking only the amount of Cytomel that I have been taking? Or some other option? I would appreciate any knowledgeable opinions.
Avatar f tn Are there many people out there taking Cytomel (T3) as well their T4 for treatment of Hashis? I am in the process of changing Drs. My last Dr. was very emphatic about the importance of balancing the T3 and T4, but I have heard that some med. professionals only concentrate on T4. I'm wondering what to expect with a new practitioner...
Avatar f tn 5cm (some say 2cm) without extension or lymph node involvement does not likely need I-131. Furthermore, cytomel is used to prepare for withdrawal from thyroid hormone for RAI treatment -- the FDA recently approved thyrogen for RAI treatment which means patients stay on the levothyroxine the entire time.
Avatar f tn Hello all! I had a TT 4 yrs ago. It's been a struggle, not once have I felt my hypo symptons disappear. My doctor will only test TSH, as well my endo agrees with this. My tsh as been gradually going up, I just had it tested its 8 now. Three months ago, I believe it was at 6. I know not a reliable blood test but it's all I've got right now. Anyway, my dr called yesterday and told me once again she was increasing my synthroid it's at.150 to .200.
Avatar f tn Going on a T3 only medication is a somewhat extreme regimen when the patient has a big problem with Reverse T3 dominance, and has been unable to correct it by other methods. What were the conditions that made your doctor think it best to put you on Cytomel only? Do you have lab results from before going on the Cytomel that you can post, along with their reference ranges? Also, what symptoms were you having before starting on the Cytomel? Are you having any symptoms now?
1401696 tn?1280838616 I did request the cytomel 5mcgs ......Never took b/c I switched to the Armour.....They had never checked my T3 only T4.....I req. theT3 when I crashed on the Armour. my T3 was in 186 (70-180). Regardless, I now realize they switched me from one day to another on a dose larger than what I was taking with the Synt. I am surprised I did not have a cardiac. I spent 10 days in bed could not lift my arms. Horrible. I am still getting over it. But I cut back to 1/2 of the 90mg Armour pill.
