Cytomel not working

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel not working

cytomel

798555 tn?1292787551 If you have not tried cytomel (t3), find a doc who will try it out. Some people do not convert t4 to t3 at the cell level even though the lab test looks like they do in their blood. I think I am one of those people, but I am also one that gets the killer headaches from cytomel, could not tolerate it anymore. Well I used to live on redbull, everyday (safer driving)! I really dont want to do that again. T4 and redbull, now there's a combo!
Avatar f tn With something like hypothyroid it is really important that we are educated and active patients - working with our doctors and not just passively believing or accepting whatever we are told.
Avatar f tn After trying armour( not for me ) and other synthetic t4 drugs I tried cytomel. WOW! It was great! I have been taking 50mcg for 12 yrs or so now. But my hypo symptoms are coming back! Weight gain, hair falling out, no energy, heartburn, shortness of breath ( do to my ever expanding gut no doubt!). My dr told me my t3 was low( HUH?) so my dose was upped to 75mcg. I have a visit in 2 weeks to see my latest blood test results. My question is how can my t3 be low if that is all I take?
Avatar n tn Hi, I was taking the phendimetrizine before with my syn, was working pretty well, with no heart rhythm problems, but I have just gotten cytomel added to my agenda on Friday and have not taken the phen since, because I was not sure, but in reference to the cytomel, does this have to be taken on empty stomach and does calcium affect, kinda like the syn--and can the syn and cytomel be taken at the same time, or should I take one in the am and one in the pm?? I am on 5mcg of cytomel and 0.
Avatar f tn Just wanted to share.....I've been on Synthroid with 5 mg of Cytomel everyday for the past few years and felt pretty darn stinky not to mention losing hair by the mounds. Started Tirosent about 5 days ago and dare I say it.....I think I feel better. Things are finally starting to move along digestively (if you know what I mean) and I don't feel so achy anymore. I'm still waiting to see if there's any change with the hairloss but I'm cautiously optimistic. I think I like it!
252327 tn?1250183976 some people are saying that the generic is not working for them. so they went back on regular brand name cytomel. thanks for the input.
Avatar n tn In my reading armour has T3 and T4, so I have not heard of cytomel being added. Did your dr tell you the reason behind that? I'd like to know, in case it is something, I should get as well. Thanks for bringing this up....
Avatar n tn Your adrenals are major stress glands and are very sensitive believe it or not to the body over working itself. If they are already weak, then any amount of stress or extra work will tear them down even further. That is my take on it anyway. OR maybe your T3 level is extremely low and maybe you need more T3 than the naturethroid ratio has in it. When using cytomel with t4 med, it is much easier to dosage to what your body needs for your t3 level to be optimum.
Avatar n tn 5, doc started me on cytomel at 2.5 and doing small increaese monthly, but my Free T3 is not moving it has been between 200-227 everytime even on the cytomel?? Doc can't really explain it?? Can you?? He decided to switch me to armour today 1grain daily to see if my body responds to that?? He thinks everybodies body is different and responds to differnt things, so thinks we should just give it a try?? HMMM I don't know? What are your thoughts on that, vs just increaseing my cytomel?
Avatar f tn Again, forgetting to take the cytomel for one day and not noticing a difference does not mean that you have other diseases or conditions........ I don't what symptoms you are trying to alleviate so it's hard to comment. What kind of difference are you trying to see? It does look like your FT3 is too high and that you might be hyper. With your FT3 high and your FT4 low, I'd suggest that you might need to decrease your cytomel and increase your synthroid.
Avatar n tn ve been on synthroid since July and just know its not working. Should I go back of tiroide vister? How can I stablise my levels? Thansk a mil!
327369 tn?1326119908 Just for info, I noticed something in the medical info that came with the Cytomel. It stated that Cytomel has no known side effects. How many meds do you know that can say that?
1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
Avatar f tn , I am sick of wasting my time with all these doctors that do not listen. Anybody know any cytomel friendly doctor's that are currently taking patients and working in or around the Seattle area???
407745 tn?1230850087 Since they are both thyroid replacement, it is ok to take them at the same time. I would wait until about 3:00 to take the rest of the cytomel. It is ok to drink at anytime, and ok 1/2 hour to one hour to eat after taking the synthroid or cytomel. If you are taking vitamin supplements, wait at least 4 hours after taking your morning synthroid and cytomel. I am no doctor though, so please call him and make sure it is ok with him.
Avatar f tn Thanks pep88. Yes, he just put me on Cytomel, not the combo. He said there may be a need for tweaking and was open to Armour etc...but I needed some time to adjust to the meds. I'm getting more bloodwork done a week before my next appt (which is in a month). Took my first cytomel today...no diff, but I know it will take some time. I was very lethargic today...got very little done....I'm sure it's the thyroid/90 humid degree combo.
Avatar m tn I have been feeling better than I started out last year but I usually feel better when the doctor changes the dosage and then it gradually gets crappy. (tired, achy, feeling cold) This time I stayed relatively stable. Right before last Thurs when I got my blood drawn I didn't feel great but not as horrible as I usually feel by the time I'm due for a blood draw. So the doctor called me today and told me to take one 5mcg Cytomel in the am then take 5mcg of Cytomel at 2pm.
694885 tn?1232649948 Any generic T4 med is very inexpensive. However, Cytomel, a T3 drug, not so much. The Cytomel, to ease your mind, you will only be taking for a very short time. You take this prior to your surgery and pre-RAI only. Because T3's short lived in the body (about 4 hours), they can take you off of any T4 meds early, prior to surgery. Then they don't have to wait and weene you off post surgery and wait for RAI. Because of this, you will be quickly ready for RAI.
Avatar f tn KEEP IN MIND I AM ON CYTOMEL...but does not seem to be working..I read about a negative feedback loop where you body does not use the cytomel provided to it...Is that possible? ESTRONE: below 10 (Normal 10-173) Testosterone, TOTAL-10 (normal is 2-45) Free Test-1.8 (.1-6.4) IF you can give me ANY medical insight...from a bodybuilders perspective...I am seeing an endocronologist soon... Thank You!
Avatar n tn ve been on cytomel for about a month and I have the sweating issue some also. Mostly during the night - not night sweats due to menopause as I've been through that for lots of years. I had the sweating for a long time, then it lessened when I started on synthroid in Jun '08, but now it's back again since I started on the cytomel. Last night was really bad, along with rapid, pounding heart beats that lasted for about an hour before I could fall back to sleep.
556500 tn?1222338630 4 my t3 was low. my primary doctor put me on cytomel 25 mcg. before all of this happened i knew my thyroid was not working properly because of my issues. tuesday i started the med by wednesday am after my 2nd days amount i had palpitations and thumping in my left ear (periodically) i ask my doc if i can cut the pill in half untill i can get used to it. today after taking 3 half doses i can say i am feeling better no more palpitations and thumping in ears.
909086 tn?1242660764 s a new one on me - T3 med usually causes palps, not gets rid of them!! What are your latest thyroid hormone test results. Cytomel (generic Liothyronine) should not cause those symptoms, unless your dose it too high. I'm on generic Liothyronine also - much smaller dose - and have no problems with it at all. Do you split your T3 dose throughout the day, or take the whole thing all at once?
Avatar f tn How would one know if they're getting too much Cytomel (T3) ? Are there things to watch for before I get my next set of Blood tests done? How long should I give T3 before I give up? I'm so darn tired I just want to crawl in a hole. I'm currently using 12.5mcg of Cytomel and .75mg of Synthroid since July 14th. Help!
