Cytomel no weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel no weight loss

cytomel

Avatar n tn and I am doing this for 4 to 5 days a week. I am seeing no weight loss as yet. I am frustrated. Weight becomes an uphill battle with hypothyroidism. Has anyone lost weight on cytomel? What will it take to lose weight while having hypothyroidism and being on cytomel? I know the side effects of cytomel includes weight loss......but how much time do you have to be on cytomel for to start seeing those side effects? I can use any help on this. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am wondering what everyone's experience is with Cytomel in regards to weight loss and how long it took to have a measurable loss. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I am weight training as part of my exercise routine. I used to take Creatine drops to supplement my energy and endurance. Now that I am on Cytomel, can I still do this? Finally, are there any safe fat burners and energy boosters that can be taken with Cytomel?
Avatar f tn my numbers are: TSH 2.3 (.40-4.00); Free T4 .73 (.70-1.8); Free T3 3.1 (2.3-5.0) My doses: Tirosint 50 mcg.; Cytomel 12 mcg/day My thyroid was destroyed roughly 8 years ago; the only problems I have is hair loss and weight gain - I don't overeat, I exercise - I don't eat processed foods - I could eat 1200 calories a day - good calories and put on weight. I grow most of what I eat. Help! I am 65.
894666 tn?1274097896 Has anyone ever had a similar problem. If it is the cytomel, I think I need to stop taking it. I was hoping it would help with weight loss, which is has not.
Avatar f tn I was on half of the synthroid I mentioned, and my level was at a 4. The Dr. thought it should go lower so she put me on .5 of Cytomel. I noticed the weight around my middle seemed to have trimmed down some. I teach aerobics and really didn't have any of side effects except did get tired if I did too much. Am not tired with this but my hair is dry and breaking off which I don't like and I had felt dizzy at times on this new medication. What do you suggest? go back to my 1/2 of .
Avatar m tn When you were on 100 mcg Cytomel for weight loss, did it make you feel hyper at all? Did you lose weight while on it?
Avatar n tn Cytomel is not a weight loss script - That is mis understood by many. It has nothing to do with metobolism if your hormones are not balanced. Some may lose weight while on it becuase of the direct T3 and increase in energy - but it shoudl never be Rx's for weight loss I can't believe your doctor gave it to you. DId your labs support the need for T3?
Avatar n tn I wouldn't advise adding cytomel without knowing what your actual thyroid levels are -- that's Free T4, Free T3 and TSH. T3 med (cytomel) is about 4 times more potent than the T4 med (synthroid) and it can really throw you for a loop if you don't need it. It can cause very rapid heart rate, palps, etc. Whenever cytomel is added, the T4 med should be dropped accordingly. Did you receive the cytomel from your doctor or as a script? What did your doctor say about adding it?
Avatar n tn I also started to become very depressed. I was switched to 112 Synthroid and 5 Cytomel. The weight stabilized at 142lb - great! However, the depression is still here, I still get tired, and my toes and fingers get uncontrollably cold lately. I also started getting slightly sick in the morning about an hour after taking the Synthroid. My last blood test showed TSH of 0.1mIU/L.
Avatar f tn My doctor took my dose from 75 to 88 to 100 and 15 of cytomel. I asked to switch to naturethroid due to so much hair loss and sudden weight gains Doctor put my on 2 grains. I’ve been on it for 3 days. Any idea why i have no energy and headaches? I really want to switch back. I’m an educator and need energy for my kids at school. Should I give the naturehtroid more time since it has only been three days?
927140 tn?1244210051 I think all of you should understand the difference between weight gain or loss from thyroid meds and the difference in how phentermine works before giving any information...most thyroid meds DO NOT HELP WITH WEIGHT LOSS...IF IT DID..THERE WOULD BE NO NEED FOR THE LATTER....THYROID MEDS ARE NOT FOR WEIGHT LOSS....AND IF YOU THINK IT IS...DO YOUR RESEARCH WITH A QUALIFIED DOCTOR!!! NOT JUST A PILL PUSHER....IT WONT HAPPEN!!!!
705042 tn?1228721787 Weight gain can be experienced during periods of thyroid imbalance, whether it be hypo or hyper. The rule of thumb is that hypothyroidism can contribute to weight gain, but it is a rule that is broken all the time. Some people lose weight when hyper or gain weight when hypo. Some people experience the opposite. Some people don't experience loss or gain. I did not gain weight when I was hypo, but I lost weight when I was hyper.
Avatar n tn I just passed on a doctors appt today to do one of those non conventional weight loss things. I have about 25 more to lose and my impatience is growing tremdously. Yet I was so ill for years before getting optimal just shy a year ago this month. I took a step back and thought I need more time right now to maintain a healthy balance instead of reaching out again for something that may harm all the good that I am know having.
Avatar f tn ve been complaining to my doctors for years (literally since 2003) about symptoms of fatigue, hair loss, inability to lose weight, and weight gain. Started testing for thyroid problems in 2003, but they only did the TSH test which always came back normal. Never did the free T4 test until 2005. I'm a concerned about pituitary problems as this is what i have read from various cites (mayo clinic and a couple of other good sites).
744962 tn?1270942038 I ended up in hospital and the endo there dealt with me - the private dr I had gave me 100mcg of Thyroxin and 125mcg of Armour thyroid - it caused havoc - loads of weight loss then cut the thyroxin to 50mcg and the Armour to 30mcg and a month later removed Armour and put me on 20mcg of Cytomel. Hospital tests indicate T3 toxicisity and Small hypodense foci at right basal ganglia probably due to infact or ischemic changes. also indicates autoimune thyroiditis.
Avatar f tn you may need see your her endo and have him or her adjust ur medication..
Avatar f tn Even though health wise I felt better most of the time had issues with weight gain and most disturbing hair loss. I have almost gone bald and have been trying to adjust meds just to stop hair loss. 6 months back shifted to brand synthroid 62.5 mcg. Felt fine but hair loss didn't stop. Recently read a lot about cytomegalovirus so asked my endo about it. I am prescribed cytomegalovirus 5mcg + 50 mcg synthroid.
Avatar f tn About 5 weeks ago my doctor added 5mcg of Cytomel twice a day. My anxiety, lethargy, ADD, depression, and hair loss have really calmed down but I still have a low body temperature - normally in the 96-97 range and my weight hasn't budged at all. I also am so bloated all the time - I am so uncomfortable in my body. Do I need to be on a higher dose of cytomel or should I may be looking into getting tested for insulin resistance?
Avatar f tn Cytomel really shouldn't be taken for weight loss. It's okay to take some, along with some T4, but you really should try for a balance between the two. Also, you are on a pretty high dose. The increase from 25 to 50 was huge. After two years on Cytomel, do you have any more weight to lose? Do you have peaks and valleys in your energy level throughout the day? How do you take your Cytomel? Do you split it into more than one dose?
Avatar f tn I had my bi-annual thyroid checkup and my doctor said I was on too much meds due to my weight loss and reduced me to a half Cytomel and 100 mcg Synthoid. Got tested again after 6 weeks and was told I was slightly high but could stay at that level. However I was feeling awful on that (really tired) so I talked to my doctor and agreed to going back to 25mcg Cytomel/75 mcg Synthroid.
Avatar n tn Lupo does not believe or think the free t3 has anything to do with fat loss or weight loss because of the science behind calorie in calorie out, but not everyone is the same--some where along the way I have really slowed my metabolism down and would like to know how to repair it and there has to be some correlation between the Free T3 levels--He says that they don't usually treat based on those numbers because of the cytomel being short lived, so then I would think you would go by the level
